Thank God I did not take the offer back then. Can't imagine this level of poor remuneration.

But the salaries are not confirmed, could be more than the amounts listed. All the stated amounts seem to be ridiculously smaller than what you make, remember many are struggling to get such jobs and salaries.

Acidosis:
Following your analysis, you mean a Prof earn N6m/yr? i.e. N500,000/month.

Well this salary structure may be true for Lecturers in Private Unis and some states universities.

I believe in facts, and I can authoritatively assert that Professors in Delta State University, Abraka earn btw N800,000 - N1,000,000 monthly. I'm speaking based on facts.

Mind you, most of these lecturers earn other figures from (I.T supervision, project supervision, visitations, postgraduate/part-time/sandwich, etc). One of my lecturers back then was paid N60,000 for supervising 3 I.T students in the same metropolis. Do you even know the cost of supervising a PhD student?

Rumour also posits that Delta State University Lecturers are the highest paid in Nigeria. So next time you're posting figures, endeavour to indicate your source. In addition, all Profs in the school are entitled to at least one official car, a driver, a well furnished house with BQ & other perquisites.

All Lecturers do not earn same figures. Some Profs do not earn close to N500k/month, while some earn above N800k.

I find it very hard to believe.
My elder brother's salary as at 2013 was 450k per month in a Federal University.

OMG, whereas, in the UK, a fresh lecturer's starting salary is about £41,000 per annum ( Pls in the interest of health and safety, converting this to Naira without a four figure table is strongly discouraged)

This is a lie. In UK you first have to do a post-doc and the typical salary is £24000 - £29000 per annum before 20% tax. Before you can become a "fresh" lecturer you typically have to do a post-doc for 2 - 5 years.

Salaries for higher education (HE) lecturers range from £33,000 - £43,000+. (Look at the band oh, not fresh lecturer, minus tax 20 - 30%)
At a senior level with increased management responsibilities, salaries can range from £39,000 to £56,000.( minus 30 - 40% tax)

And remember that the living standard is not the same so with the conversion of x 250, don't allow your eye pop yet. I am in the system and so I know what I am talking about

No preference given to academics to make it juicy.
Now, imagine a beauty pageant competition...girls get SUV, good house, huge cash price and lots of endorsements added to her prize for getting half nude...irrespective of the fact that the girl might even be a dullard.
Second scenario...A national Mathematics competition. A student studies really hard, goes from one elimination stage to another and finally emerges the best amongst so many other students nationwide. WHAT DOES HE GET? A round of applause and a LAPTOP. What is the essence of studying hard then? Education suffers a lot in this country.

A large chunk of their income comes from handouts and bribes.

That's for those in d state unis. I attended an FG uni n I wonder how they survive ( family n all). Plus they run their research from that paltry sum. My own supervisors do send their samples 2 S. Africa for tests n you can imagine d costs involved.

And more than 30% of 41,000 will go into taxes, That lecturer will also pay rent of 500 pounds per month. On the long run, it becomes same thing. standard of living in the u.k is extremely high.

Why are some people saying its a lot of money.
The salary is poor in my opinion.
Consider the number of years and hard work it takes to get to the level of a Prof in the Nigerian university system.
By the time taxes eats into the money, the net amount will not even be enough.

What is attractive in this salary

this is p.a (per annum) o...that is, divided by 12 to get the monthly salary!

i think it is just there...a survival pay!
