Why Do People Deactivate And Return? by Nobody: 5:23pm On May 05, 2015
I always wonder why people deactivate and return with another name
What could they be running from?
Somebody help me understand that
Even respectable posters deactivate and return hoping not to be recognized or what ?
Can someone help me understand this deactivation stuff
Especially those of you who have deactivated and returned, what was your reason?
Did you reveal things you wish you hadn't?
And do you suppose the people you were running from don't remember what you revealed?

If someone deactivates his/her account then all post made by the person is gone including the bad ones, so no one can dig it up and use it against the person. A good case is Barcanista whom the APC guys have been resurrecting his old post against PDP just to get back at him for going back to the PDP camp but fortunately he didn't deactivate his account to the anger of those guys.

Why should that bother anyone?
Are there people that bothered
Btw,the posts don't disappear,it just shows the person as a nobody and where they were quoted still remains
If the person deactivates and returns, everyone who knows them can sniff them out by their writing style so what have they achieved?

I am not a coward that get beaten to submission. Whether they quote, posts or resurrect, na them go tire. It is easier for pig to fly than for barcanista moniker to be deactivated.

My Dear many people deactivate for different reasons. Some due to bully, some to create a new identity and image around themselves, some as a result of bullying, some for the fun of it, some as a result of blackmail and some others prolly because they have been busted for illegal dealings and stuffs.

For me o, I am the last person that will resort to deactivation as a result of being bullied, blackmailed or whatever.

Maybe just to start all over again? They probably don't like or have regrets bout d posts they made on deir previous profile. Some do it just for fun, to try and make a mystery story out of it.
I deactivated my other profile cos I'd once identified my self by my name with it.
I'd only nl had an option for changing usernames nd deleting posts, then probbly pple won't have to deactivate

yea that's true but except someone is stalking the person then he/she won't be noticed easily especially if the person decides to tow a new path after registering a new moniker

I think some people do it because they feel they will NEVER come back on NL again only to discover that they can't stay away for too long. As we all know, nairaland is very, very addictive.

yea bro, I respect you a lot here and I expect you to be a credible opposition to the incoming government, praising and criticizing when the need be because we don't need and autocratic govt.
They can curse and abuse you as they like but what matters is you believing in yourself and doing what is right in your conscience.

That may be it too
They get mad at themselves or whoever for whatever reason and deactivate and say bye bye nairaland then read a topic that interests them ,re-register and jump right in grin grin grin grin

You talking to me? cool

In my own case I got very busy in a new chapter of my life and I didnt want any distractions at that period.
There are other extra curriculars that are linked to my NL account that were taking up a lot of my time too.

The intention was for it to stay that way, but I had some discussions offline. Some of the people I talk to here kept in touch even when I deactivated.

As for me, I have nothing to hide . . . when I did come back I reintroduced myself. Be rest assured that I am not an alcoholic wife beater cool
Some Nairalanders know me inside out anyway; including my cat, my fish and my pet spiders grin

I wont be here as much as before but I will skip in and out from time to time.
Hope I answered your questions grin

Generally speaking, people will have different reasons for deactivating. 20 kids cannnot play together for 20 years.

For indeed many reasons. Ranging from intimidation, stalking, blackmail, threat, starting a new account. ..For other reasons.

I once thought of deactivating my account a few months back when one idiot when as far as bringing my family picture from my Facebook profile (I had left my personal email on the NL profile). I was able to figure deactivating would serve their purpose. I simply ignored the animal, and like vapour, he later disappeared into the abyss.

Some people take this place damn too seriously, and can try as much as possible to frustrate others out.

Let me indulge you a little grin

And you couldn't separate the extra curricular from your nairaland name and account
Does anyone understand this please
I don't get it

I thought if one was busy with some other thing they simply just kept away till they were less busy

Are you saying your intention was to keep away and the people that knew your cat and dog and pet spider persuaded you to return?

I dont know what you are trying to prove
Your assumptions are wrong on this occassion
however if you prefer to beleive any of the reasons that you have cited, then thats your perogative.

You made posts on my babyosisi marital thread and very shortly after deactivated
I was wondering if you had regrets about some things you wrote there and didn't want to be associated with it
I wondered maybe you decided to move on from nairaland only for you to reappear
It didn't make sense and your explanations still doesn't make sense to me
Not that you owe me an explanation but thanks for trying grin
It was shocking to see you leave
For someone who is well respected on the forum ,it was quite a shocker

You could have kept your wondering to yourself or better still asked her directly. That people do what you can't imagine doing shouldnt enable you question their decision because some of us also dont understand like you why you went about it this manner. Btw, sherina was seeking you opinion the last time, she took in and knowing that she wont leave again could not bring herself to reply your mail. Pardon and speak to her.

You need to have a free mind sista grin grin
My explanations may not make sense to you becasue they are very simple; You are looking for a big thing where there isnt.
I am too long in the tooth to worry too much about privacy or what will people say. Nothing to hide.

Like I said earlier, a number of very active nairalanders know me very well. Over the years Some have become like brothers and sisters to me. Some have met my hubby and some have met my kids. . .some have even met my mum. Even If I write anything that I later think I dont want, deactivating is not the answer in this situation. I rather delete posts.

I know how much of my time I spent on NL posting and PM's and I needed that time to myself at the point that I deactivated.
I am also no longer a part of Tehn.

I am taking time to explain to you becasue of the respect that I have for you even though you set out to discredit me.

I still maintain that people will deactivate and reactivate due to different reasons at that point. They dont owe anyone an explanation. its a personal choice.
