When they both gave conflicting weights he said he is not selling until he get a third scale. Also he never mind those sellers crying of how Inconvenienting it is for them to go back and return the next day.

Sorry for ur loss boss. .. Always try to have about two people with u wen selling. One person will monitor the scale and record, and the other person is to do general monitoring of wats going on around. Fish buyers steal fish alot. Sometimes dey can steal two baffs of fish frm you and u wont notice unless someone is there to catch dem. It has happenes to me and dey stole a full 35kg baff. They always steal anytime they come to buy so be vigilant.

In December my colleague sold his fishes 650/kg in ikorodu.

On the Lagos Island depending on the size it's 600 upward.

It's high time we formed a union cos this price is just too low, the ppl making the gains are the market women...I see them as extortionist. We need a union or association so we can stick to a uniform price.

exactly we need a union that will specialized on d buying and selling Cos' this extortion from d baba elejas and Iya elejas is much so much frustrated to the extent of giving up in fish farming Cos' it's not easy been laboured for 5 months plus still got loss from it. in fact if I remember all d loss of d profit I usually weep Cos' it pains me hard so painful to me when people cheat me in a way that av been well informed than ever before.

yes bro Roland I could remember a book written by john Maxwell which said that failure in life is a stepping stones to success .by failing on one side u will be Able to rise from d point u av failed and succeed .I strongly believe that things is gonna change for good for me .I could remember some words of bro excelsior who is among my coach that always said in fish farming u loose in one bit u gain av learnt my lesson no problem but it pains me much.

I just decided to lay low and keep doing my thing.. 2. Never weigh more than 25kg @a time.
3. Do they weighing by yourself for yourself, if you have spent a lot of money and energy feeding your fish 4 5months then I don't see a reason y you shldnt finish up the Good work.

One of them asked to call his son to bring her scale and he said Never.

He does not also allow them to touch his scale he will shout like a mad dog.

Okay oh... Good for them; maybe we can all sell at N600 per kilo once it becomes a trend
When u are harvesting make sure that man/manager gets u his buyers and does the negotiations for you bcoz its almost impossible to get fish buyers (bulk buyers) in Lagos that will pay above N500 per kilo during non-festive seasons. For it to even be N500 per kilo, it has to be big fishes of like 1.2kg and above. Below 1kg and you will even be begging some buyers with N480.
If u are selling just few kilos (like 2 or 3 fishes) to an individual or friend in d area, yes u can even sell at N700 per kilo depending on how big d fish is and ur marketing strategy.

Boss melange goes for 350 to 380 naira..budget 250 naira to feed one fish to maturity..

Hello everyone, permit me to share my experience here.
I happened to be a first timer in the cat fish biz. I stocked the pond with 500 fingerlings, before I know what was happening I had lost about 180 fingerlings; eventually we overcome that phase, almost five months on I got my own baptism from the bulk buyers today but my wife who stood in as the sales rep refused to sell to her because the price earlier negotiated was brought down but not until the fishes had been stressed up.. .. the problem started when the buyer insisted that all the pond water be drained assuring us that all the fishes will be bought, however we were able to call her bluff because we have water readly available. The major lesson I learnt from this thread is that one should never use the buyer scale because if the price was okay we would have used the buyer 's scale and we may have still be cheated.

Right now I don't even know the exact sales of a kg. As everyone is selling at a different price based on location.. At 4 month a fish should be weighing nothing less than 0.7 grm on the average.

I sympathise with you bro, no matter what happened it is one of the lessons of life, and we will all learn from this so as not to be a victim to such dubious ways of these fish sellers.

Having said that, i think i need to go buy sharp-sharp my own scale. Which type is good that cant be easily manipulated because i dont understand a situation where two scales will give different figure of the same fish
