According to a twitter user @ Don_olatok,a young boy was assaulted and beaten by her madam for allegedly stealing N500.The unfortunate incident happened in Ilorin. He went ahead to say that the madam is used to maltreating the boy and his sister.

You don't know thieves are made abi? She probably starves the boy which leads to stealing, if she continues this way, that boy will most likely become a hardened criminal.
I won't completely agree my friend. Thieves are not exclusively made due to starvation. Sometimes greed, peer pressure or competition can lead to it. Flogging has been a workable solution since the time of Adam grin. The parents only need to try within their means to keep up with their responsibility while instilling morals into the boy.

Hey kids!

Take a long hard look at the picture below.

This is why you shouldn't steal.

People don't like others stealing from them.

A little older and he might even have been set ablaze.

So choose right. Live right.

Don't steal. Or you might be set alight!

why should a small nega like this, steal 500 in Ilorin ? . He is better be cautioned by one person, to prevent many people cautioning him when he grows with that heart of steal. I'm sure that would be worse. Later same u on nairaland will be complaining of rubbers. This is how it starts.

No doubt the woman went overboard but how could such a baby steal five hundred naira? It's either he has not been receiving adequate care and moral training or he hasn't been fed properly either ways something is seriously wrong.the earlier they detect and handle it,the better for him and the next generation.
But madam, this your beating 'na die'

Sorry my negga I was like u, I received serious beating too. But all the beatings were meant for correction. Although in my days I never had the opportunity to steal an equivalent of 500 so I never received any hard punch on the eye. Mine was always on my nyash and that is as a result of the gravity of my offense.

While I agree that those are factors that can lead to stealing, I would lean more towards starvation in this case, bearing in mind that the said madam, maltreats the kids, who uses an underage kid as servant anyways?

Not condoning stealing, but I don't see any justification for this treatment. I hope the madam is not one of those slave runners who maltreat their wards/helps but expect them to operate maximally. God dey sha.

She had no right to beat him insofar as he is not her son. And even if he were, she still had no right to bruise his face like that. This is child abuse and child slavery and those who are giving an excuse for this nasty, wicked woman, need to check themselves. She should be arrested and charged with criminal assault and child abuse.

The woman went too far but friend this is Africa not abroad, our culture and way of training kids are different from other country. A family of mine had to bring his son back home from abroad cos he lack manners, how will you feel if your son nags and threaten you with police on unnecessary things. He and his son, on landing to Nigeria airport, he collected his son's passport and beat him. the boy ran to the immigration officer to report his father, to his surprise!!! the immigration officer just laughed at him and said listen to your father Here nah africa. Now if you see the boy, is well mannered and disciplined. I bet no one will stay with my grandpa and still act like a tout wink

A big swollen eye which could lead to loss of sight is way too much for such an offence even though I condemn the crime. In a sane environment, that woman will be charged to court and made to face the full wrath of the law. The thing is a little child is still growing and not fully aware of the consequences of his/her actions. I have seen comments here saying he will graduate into an armed robber. Now I ask, how many of you here didn't engage in petty theft like this while growing up? Maybe like stealing from pot of soup, bringing home your friend's pencil, stealing your parents' money e t.c? How many of you are now armed robbers? While I was growing up, I used to steal my mother's money. She punishes me and then I go back to it. But as I grew older, I began to realise without any counsel the shame and low self-esteem I was subjected to when caught. This was enough deterrent to me and it still is till today. I'm now an adult and I always put my family name first because whatever I do will affect everybody that bears that name both living and unborn. Corporal punishment is a corrective measure but must be executed with sensibility and caution. And that boy up there might change with time-Don't crucify him.
absolutely right,we all did.

My Dear, it isn't a good strategy to conclude before appreciating what went on. From what I saw the boy is on school uniform, meaning his guardian send him to school. I don't support child slavery but I will be wrong to say the boy is used as a "servant" except facts emerge. It"s so unfair

That's very bad of a mother or mother to be... imagine!!!!!maybe she wasn't even feeding the little boy well.. sad sad sad...I still think is better to manage with your child than sending your child to leave with someelse cos the way they treat those kids is disturbing
