@Osastoba. Passed through same problem when my Oxygen sensor went bad. Run a scan to pinpoint the exact one (if it is a sensor problem) or your fuel tank might be leaking.

Hi,
a 1999 tokunbo will serve you better, in terms of torque outlet to the yaris.

Have your mechanic inspect your CV joint and shaft. Also swap the rear tires with the front.

Your timing chain and chain tensioner is what is causing that grinding noise. It occurs after the vehicle has been left for a long time and the oil has collected in the sump. Once it gets lubricated the noise goes away. I will advice you to stop using that xhp and quartz 5000. You are killing that engine and this grinding noise is a warning to you . Look for any 5w 30 oil. Or if that is too difficult to find, use either Mobil 1 or quartz 9000. The noise may not go away but you may still save the engine

Please, I use a Toyota Camry 2001 model. The fuel consumption has been worrisome in the last one month. I need help about the likely problems because my mechanic told me it was due to the Engine plugs which was corrected. Despite this, the fuel consumption is much and disturbing. It wasn't like that when I got the car over a year ago. help!
Run a scan and post codes.
Has your thermostat been removed?
Does your fan run all the time?

Do a computerised wheel balancing, inflate to recommend tire pressure, align wheeks. The shaking may disappear even if you still have suspension knocks.

Your budget can get you good manual car. If you add a bit more money, you may be able to get a tokunbo. I advised\suggeted a manual because it is easier to maintain. You can get a golf 4 or 3 or a mazda or nissan almera with that amount. Check the autos section and shine your eyes very well.

That amount you have will get you a Nigeria used 1999 camry , you can get it for 600 & would be very clean, I bought my tiny light camry for 570k Nigeria used over a year now & am still enjoying it, this life is advancing daily, don't go for a manual car like golf or mazda cos they don't have 2nd hand value.

Fuel consumption is very low, i only do servicing every 4 months. If the parts are in good condition parts like gear and engine, there isn't a problem whatsoever, just maintaining with few token will be required.

yak, a 99 automatic camry is almost 2 decades old. And i can bet you the nigerian user never for once changed the transmission fluid. If the gearbox packs up during your ownership, you will be forced to cough out some scarce resources to fix it or replace it. The gearbox is not cheap to rebuild or replace either. You are a civil servant i guess so might not bechanging the car any time soon so that throws the second hand value consideration out of the window. I suggested a manual cos manuals are almost bullet proof and will serve you quite a long time till you have enough cash to buy a brand new or tokunbo. However, if you come across a decent auto and you know the service history then go for it. Last bullet; a clutch disk costs less than 3k to replace, an automatic transmission costs at least 30k to replace and without warranty. Your choice.

I disagree with your assertions, an average Nigerian user changes all those aforementioned if you truly work for your money, i have changed the ATF twice since august last year i bought mine, mind you it's not just ATF but Toyota sold ATF, reason being that my mechanic told me to visit any toyota office to buy it which i went to RT Briscoe at Fatai Atere, Matori.
@yak, don't be discouraged about buying a 2 decade old vehicle, Toyota really did a good job on Camry up till date.

Case study: a colleague of mine bought 2000 camry bought from New York , believe me sincerely the gearbox oil wasn't there which made the gear to pack up and he bought a new gear immediately he cleared the car.
Not all Nigeria used vehicles are bad

Eluquenson, the Camry is one of the most reliable cars out there. I owned one and can vouch for toyotas craftsmanship. Like you, I changed my at with the recommended fluid. I changed a whole lot of things as well to keep it in the best condition. However, when I was about to sell it, someone here on naira land, thought that the reason I made the changes (including atf), was because the car was giving me issues. Lol. A lot of people abuse the Camry because of its reliability. Hence I put the caveat "if you know the service history" to the guy who wants to buy a car. He is on a tight budget you know and might not easily afford a new gear box like your friend. The man who bought my Camry still thanks me. Like i said, if he is sure of the service history, its his call.
