Can an applicant explain to the consular officer that his entire family will be teaming up to sponsor his education & stay in the United states if he has all legally required documents for F1 visa? And does it in any way affect his chances?

Thanks alot

Dear AlexanderCamron,

Ability to pay for your schooling is just one of the factors that will determine your success during your student visa interview. Consular officers are aware that family ties are very strong in Nigeria and that families will pool their income to ensure a student’s success – this does not weigh against you.

You may consider bringing in some form of proof as to how your schooling will be paid for, and be prepared to discuss your unique situation with the Consular officer.

Dear Sakasaka,

U.S. citizens are not required to, or even capable of, obtaining U.S. visas. The U.S. citizen spouse should travel to the United States on their American passport.

I think you do not understand me. Please allow me to be break it down.
*I currently have a valid B1/B2 visa issued in Nigeria that is going to expire nex year.

* I got married 8months ago to US Citizen who has been studying & living in Germany for about 8years now.

* We have no intention of relocating to the US but we would like to have our kids delivered in the US and also spend our annual vacation in the US.
Yes she does not need a visa but sadly I do and my question is how do I convinced the visa officer because am a non-immigrant visa applicant married to a U.S. Citizen?

Okay I get the part that you do not respond to queries about specific cases, how about this, how can a spouse of US citizen obtain a non-immigrant visa when he or she is not ready to apply for an immigrant visa. I'm sure there are many people out there having similar problem.

Hello VO,

Thanks for being here.

My Immigrant Visa petition is being processed. But I have a conference to attend in the USA in August, plus I'd like to go visit my family (wife and two kids, all US citizens) at Christmas.

My non-immigrant visa expired last August.

Can I apply for a renewal of my B1/B2? Or will the fact that I have an immigrant visa in process mean I can't apply or won't be issued?

Thanks again

Hi VO, my B1/B2 visa is expiring by early September this year and I have travelled to US two times in the last two years without taking my wife and the kids along. Is it possible for me to add my wife and the kids on my renewal for another B1/B2 visa application?, because I'd like to travel with them on my next vacantion this year. Thank u

Dear V.O,

Thanks for the wonderful work you have been doing here and God will continue to bless you. Please I do have question.
My Dad is a senior citizen above 70 and my Mom is 56 and they want to take a vacation this summer and my elder bro is sponsoring them and he resides here in Nigeria. He also will accompany them with his own Family( his Family has visa’s already). The question now is how do they apply as the policy states that above 70 will use the drop box and below...will be interviewed!
How does this apply to them as a Family (Dropbox for Dad and mom)?

Cheers!

Dear Chanteh,

Thank you for your question. You should come for your interview with all of the documents that you have. At the time of your interview you can explain your situation to the Consular Officer and they will decide how to proceed at your interview. You will not be denied out of hand because your name is spelled incorrectly, but if your visa is approved it may not be able to be issued until you have documents from your school reflecting the correct spelling of your name.

Thanks

Hello and good day to you VO.

In 2007 my fiancee turned wife applied for a non-immigrant visa but was denied even though I didn't consent to it.

The marriage certificate she used during that period was forged by an agent. But that wasn't the issue raised by the VO.

We got married in 2009 and now have two.

What is possibility of us getting a visa if we apply as family knowing fully well that she has a record with the Consulate?

Please I need your sincere advise on what we can do.

Good afternoon V.O.

One of my friends, a Ghanian and an MS student in one of the ivy league university has been in a serious financial challenge since the beginning of the year. The problem now is that she is placed on registration hold because she is yet to pay her Spring term tuition and there is no hope she would get the money before Fall term start this August. She is currently doing an intern and is very confused on what action to take in a month time when school resumes. Is it possible for her to be allowed to remain in US to work in order to raise the money or she must go back home?

Thanks and happy anniversary!

Every application is given a fresh review by a new Consular officer when you re-apply, but the details of your specific case aren't likely to change in a short period of time. We don't recommend that you re-apply within 90 days for this reason.

Contrary to what you may have heard or read, there is no single solution to getting a U.S. visa. The best option is to be honest during your interview; it sounds like the circumstances of your case are already changing since your previous applications because you are now married.

Having an immigrant visa petition on file doesn't prevent you from receiving a B1/B2 visa - every case is reviewed individually.
Previous travel to the United States on a prior B1/B2 visa reflects positively in the applicant's favor, but you should always be honest about your intentions and current ties to Nigeria.

The only documentation that you are required to bring to your visa interview is your DS-160 confirmation sheet and a valid passport. U.S. visa interviews are based on an applicant's interview and ability to demonstrate ties to their country. The best advice anyone can give you is that you should be honest during your interview. Attempting to conceal information about your purpose of travel may be grounds for refusal.

You are able to renew your visa through the dropbox program (http://nigeria.usembassy.gov/niv_dropbox.html), but your family members applying for the first time will have to come in for a visa interview. Some applicants choose to forego the dropbox option and apply with their family members, but it truly does not impact the interview one way or the other.

Age-based waivers for non-immigrant visas are only granted to individuals over the age of 79, by U.S. State Department policy. Anyone who does not meet these requirements will have to apply for an interview. Each application is reviewed individually and while a family may submit together, they can each be issued or refused based on their own individual circumstances.

Acceptance at a U.S. university is not a guarantee of visa issuance. A decision is made on each cased based on the information that an applicant presents to the Consular officer. If you were found to be unqualified at the time of the interview, you are welcome to re-apply at any time although we do not recommend you apply within 90 days. Unless your circumstances have changed since the last time you interviewed, or you simply forgot to share important information regarding your application, it is unlikely that the decision will be different when interviewing with a different officer.

Applying for a U.S. visa with fraudulent documents is a matter that we take very seriously. Despite the fact that the VO did not raise the issue during the interview, it is very likely that they identified the document as fraudulent and contributed directly to a refusal. Your wife is free to apply for a non-immigrant visa but you should strongly consider, given the information you know about this case, whether you would issue a visa if placed in a VO's position.

Individuals in the United States are not allowed to work without prior approval of USCIS. Even assuming that permission has been granted, the terms of an F1 (student) visa require that the individual is continuing their studies full-time. If your friend is unable to continue paying for her schooling then the only legal course of option is to leave the United States. Please understand that this does not prevent her from getting another student visa in the future; but choosing to remain in the United States illegally would, in fact, be damaging in future applications.

As we often mention here on Nairaland, your application will be reviewed with fresh eyes each time that you re-apply. We don't recommend that anyone apply within 90 days of a previous application, but many applicants who have been previously refused are able to eventually build sufficient ties to meet the requirements for the visa under U.S. immigration law.

Circumstances that may influence a decision at the time of your application include, but are not limited to, your job, your house, your family, your stated intent for going to the United States, your previous travel history, or your financial situation. Be honest with the VO about your current reasons for travelling, your previous refusals, and what has changed.

We used hotel reservation for the us application claiming that we don't know anyone in the us. Now we want to reapply but with a close frnd inviting us for his wedding, hew ready to give us written invitation plus his utility bill but we will still book n hotel cos we don't intend staying in is house during the visit. (he just got his permanent resident card a month after our previous app) that was why we claimed we dunno anybody then cos he had not gotten a status then. 1 Pls can we go ahead with d application using is inivitation? 2 will it not look like we lied in the first application that we don't know anybody in US. Bimmymal, it's impossible to know for sure why an individual was denied without reviewing their specific case and as a policy we don't discuss specific cases. What I can tell you is that your application will be reviewed by a different VO if you choose to re-apply. Bringing invitations and hotel reservations are not required and in most cases will not even be looked at - the only documentation you need at the interview is your DS-160 confirmation sheet and your passport.

The best option is to honestly answer questions, too many applicants have been misled to believe that visiting friends or family in the U.S. will result in visa denial. This is not the case. Each application is reviewed based on the individual circumstances of each applicant at the interview and a decision is made based on criteria set by U.S. immigration law.

Hello VO,

I just got back from the US after a 21 days visit and I still have a valid B1/B2 visa. I plan applying for an F-1 Visa. I will like to know if my visiting visa guarantees the success of my F1 Visa and i will also like to know what will happen to my B1/B2 Visa if i am denied F-1 Visa? Does it get canceled ?
