Hello Ladies. I'm part of the class of 2014 and i must say, this thread has changed sad Those days we used to work hard at getting new and relevant information about affordable hospitals and doctors that we could use. These days Poe and interview stories are scarce talk less of new hospital.

Can I challenge us ladies (myself included) to make a serious and renewed EFFORT at getting new and affordable hospitals we can use? The U.S. Is HUGE so we have not even scratched the surface at all. What happened to Kentucky, Nebraska, Colorado etc smiley

Il decided to start researching again since nothing else is new here and I would love us to all do the same... If not il just quietly pm any new info I get to my fellow class memberssmiley
Hope I made sense! Love ya'll and cheers to the weekend!

really? And I just got off the phone with a friend I referred to the hospital complaining about her not too good experience with them. Guess maybe cos she used WHMC the first time she had her baby and was expecting same treatment or much more.

So this is my experience in the USA, Maryland to be precise. It's a long post, bear with me. Prior to coming, I didn't find out the distance Of the house to the Doctor's office/hospital.
I got to Maryland in May and I stayed with my husband's friend and was paying $450 monthly for rent. The house is an hour drive to the hospital. So I spent about $60 weekly transporting myself via taxi/train to see the doctor.
I used Dr Chaudry and he quoted $2300 for his bill and $4000 for the hospital, Prince George County. On the 24th of June I was told to go to the hospital by My doc that I was going to have my baby but he told me to go back home that my baby wasn't ready. The following week I got a bill of $1650 from the hospital for false labour.
I had my baby girl on the 2nd of July. I used epidural.it all went smoothly all thanks to God. My doc wasn't around, so another doc delivered my baby. I left the hospital the 2nd day cos my baby had jaundice. So She was been monitored for extra hours.
So these are my bills as they were sent to the house by the hospital and other agencies
$2,300 doc's fee
$385 for pediatrician
$1,650 for false labour
$816 for Anastasia
$2,095 for baby
$58 for assistant physician
$7,691 for me
$200 professional services for my baby
$468 attendance at delivery for baby

Asides from the bills, I've gotten my baby's Nigerian and U.S. Passport. It was quite easy, this thread helped a lot. Thanks to the mommies and daddies.
So please for upcoming new mommy's in the house please do your research well before traveling and also consider transportation & distance from where you'll be staying to the hospital.
In conclusion if you can avoid Maryland, please do. Their hospitals and doctors are not straight forward.

@sucre, it seems you are really don't mind paying that much. You need to ask the doctor what the $2300 was suppose to be and you need to call the billing dept that you are self pay. That's way too high even insurance won't pay such money because the billing get K-leg. Your bill is actually more than baby shocked #justsaying

It's even a county hospital. What if it was John Hopkins shocked

The doctor just chop the $2300 and left you the mercy of the hospital like you are just a walk-in patient. That's fraud u know

I forgot to add the doctor's fee of $2300 and $385 for pediatrician . The hospital knows I'm self pay. They said they can only give a discount of 1% if the total Bill is paid within 1 month. I'm not ok with th bill but I have no choice now but to pay it. I've made part payment to pay the rest later.

I don't understand this billing system oh. I think you should have taken it up with the doctor as it seems he quoted you a wrong price ie $4000 for the hospital bill. Did he say if the 4k was a deposit and that you'll balance when its all over or what..?? cos I just can't wrap my head around how $4k suddenly increased into over $12k considering that it all went smoothly like you said. Wasn't it a VD...? I'm confused

Anyways, at least its all over now and you & your LO r okay - dats d koko..!!

Hi all
Had my baby girl 3weeks ago at Inova alexandria. Sorry my post comin late. My hands been full.
So for anyone considering the Maryland, Virginia axis, this is a place to try. They give 50percent discount for self pay for 2day VD and3day stay CS. My doctors fee was 2500. Excellent service from the doctor. Hospital service was great too. I will adivice whoever wants to use this hospital to get their own peadritrician though cos it's not included in the bill and hospital peadritican is far more expensive.
I'm willing to answer questions from the Maryland or Virginia mum's to be.

Thank you very much this info..God bless u
Please il like to get more information from you..im in maryland n i must say..its a terrible place when it comes to hospitals the prices they quote shocked..its bn fustrating..please kindly share more info about the hospital u used..d pediatrician and co...il b looking frwed to ur response. .
P.S. this thread is awesome..v bn a silent reader n follower. ..God bless u guys
