I am a graduate of M.sc in Mass Comm from Noun and i enjoyed studying there because i was able to combine working in a bank while studying and raising a family.

Secondly, the staff of Noun are the most courteous i have had the chance of meetingin a tertiary institution. I did not experience the corrupt side. Besides, in conventional institutions, there is corruption.

Thirdly, there is readily available reading material written by Professors from conventional University. The materials are so rich that i wish i had access to them during my undergraduate days.

Finally, research wise, i had the best experience. Because, lecturers in conventional university are assigned to supervise us. So if lecturers from University of Ibadan, University of Lagos, FUTA, Uniben, supervise ur project and thesis and you are still faulting the end result, then there is no difference between students or Open University and conventional universities. Research wise, i learnt alot at Noun and i am able to teach others what i learn't.

People should stop distracting and discouraging others. Its not everyone that will have d chance to attend conventional institutions.

Also, note that the caliber of people studying there are working class people who have busy schedules.

Thanks

are you a student of noun if yes, share your experiences now

That school was meant specifically for those who are working I.e the working-class. Not for every d!ck and Harry. Those who still wish to upgrade their knowledge. It was meant to be a weekend sch

Folks need to understand that NOUN isn't a conventional school and not for young folks....its meant for those who want to work and go to school at d same time...d motto says 'Work and Learn'. So coming here and dissing the school isn't called for. Look for what suits you and stick to it.

Buhari willing to end Bsc, HND
dichotomy – JAMB
The Registrar/Chief Executive of the Joint
Admission and Matriculation Board, (JAMB),
Prof. Dibu Ojerinde Wednesday said President
Muhammadu Buhari is willing to implement the
waver that will end the Bsc and HND dichotomy.
Buhari received the updated report on the Bsc
and HND saga which was presented by the
Permanent Secretary Federal Ministry of
Education, MacJohn Nwaobiala last Tuesday.
Ojerinde who was part of the delegation said
Buhari is willing to end the dichotomy.
He disclosed this in Abuja when he spoke with
few selected newsmen on how to solve the
lingering crisis of admission into universities.
The JAMB boss revealed that: “The last
administration set up a committee to look at
how we can now merge the two, the report was
ready but it was not handled by the last
administration.”
His words: “The system has not given adequate
vision for the other levels of education. We
have not encouraged technical education, we
have not encouraged Teachers education also,
in fact we have not encouraged Agricultural
education to the extent that everybody feels
that the only way to survive is to go to the
University.
“The only way to make it is to have a degree, so
I am saying we should revisit our system, we
should look at why candidates don’t want to go
to polytechnics, and we should look at why they
don’t want teachers’ education we should also
revisit why they don’t want agriculture.
“By our experience, most people will like to
study law, engineering, medicine, accountancy,
these are the top courses been sought for in the
universities nobody wants to study education.
So I see we have problem in that area and I am
sure the Federal Ministry of Education is trying
to solve that problem.
“First of all Technical Education, there’s
dichotomy between Bachelors degree and
National Diploma or Higher National Diploma,
(HND). It was one of the things presented to Mr.
President to find a way of implementing the
waver of the dichotomy between HND and the
Bsc degree. The so called HND should now be
changed to Btech which means Bachelor of
Technology.
“Former President Musa Yar’Adua may his soul
rest in peace, said he doesn’t have any problem
with Btech. Unfortunately, government also has
not sorted this entire problem. And there are
such cases of people like me in this country, I
wouldn’t have been able to read, I wouldn’t
have been able to go to school. So what I am
saying is, government should look at how we
can improve technical education.
“Let me refer to what Oby Ezekwensili the
former Minister of Education said, she was
determined to implement Btech in our
Technical System, college of Education. All this
places should be well equipped for Btech.
“Four colleges of Education have been
upgraded to universities of Education, you will
see the rush into those universities now
because they can now get bachelor’s degree.
And when they come to the public they will not
be a push away. So this is where we are, I think
if I go by what we saw on Wednesday, President
Buhari and the Vice President listened and they
were interested in what we presented.”

[quote author=chowlade post=36527611][b][size=10pt][i]1. National Open University has been barred from the compulsory National youth Service Scheme due to not meeting up with N.U.C Specifications.

Who cares?? By the way nysc and NOUN are currently in negotiations

B.S.C Nursing in National Open university of Nigeria has been withdrawn

That too is currently been negotiated

There Is Endemic Corruption In The National Open University Of Nigeria fees Charges due to the E-payment of School fees.

The conventional uni u attended isnt any better....

NOUN Centers across the country are the worst educational environment you can ever think of in the country that an average primary school is better off

utter bullshiit!!

NOUN student doesn't participate in the compulsory NYSC

They will...pretty soon

NOUN student are less Employed on the field due to lack of experience

once again....utter bullshit

NOUN student are not paid the stipulated N10000 0r 15000 after industrial attachment

70% of conv uni students arent paid either

Students do not attend lectures in Noun, they only read their course materials which are not always readily available for collection in their School library

Lies!! Lectures are everyday and materials are ever ready

Young NOUN Students are easily turn into destitute. My neighbors that are studying in NOUN, Smoke Weed/Cigarette, Alcohol, Womanize e.t.c till they eventually graduate

a friend of mine died two months ago cos of his drinking and smoking habit.......something he got from uniport!!

NOUN Student are not researchers

They're the best in nigeria..believe me

T.M.A (Tutor marked Assignment) portal has been hacked, students go directly there to collect readily available answers for test and examination, thereby enabling student to no longer need to study for TMA to get 30/30 in the Tutor marked assignment cause it is share, for sale e.t.c amongst themselves of which same Exposed TMA are to be repeated again in their examination.

You dont know wat you're saying.. TMAs can be printed and taken home to work on. You are given a period of time to before the TMA portal is closed...HELLO!!! Dats why its called an ASSIGNMENT

NOUN is not on Nigeria university rankings according to the best institution in Nigeria. so therefore not competing with the conventional universities

Ur conv unis are not among the best 1000 in the world....utter shame

There is total confusion in the System

Says who??

Student union is totally forbidden in the tertiary institution

mention an open uni in the world dat has a student union

In short, the National Open University Of Nigeria is the worst Tertiary Institution anywhere across the globe. I will therefore strongly urge the National University commission to Look into the System of this tertiary institution and removed the institution out of the existing educational system in Nigeria

Youre probably mad cos a NOUN graduate got a job before u. Sorry bro keep searching. God is ur strength
