What if I said humans are just biological robots?

Even science fiction is pushing the idea that we were created. Prometheus has an alien (The engineer) sacrificing his DNA so that life on earth can evolve. There are scientists that believe that we could have evolved from alien life.
I am certainly one of those that subscribe to this theory 100%.

That homo sapiens are genetic hybrid is certainly plausible. It would only imply that existing species of hominids were genetically modified to function with a more complex neural circuitry and capabilities.
It still says nothing about divinity or divine provenance.

Christians are urged to abandon all reason, logic, and common sense when it comes to THEIR God. Your brain is to be used for crossing busy intersections, reeling in the ladies, or counting money.

The bible is ONLY meant to be read and obeyed without reservations. Leave common sense out of the God business, they are two antithetical thingz.

You are thinking of a more fundamentalist religion. One that cannot be ridiculed.

I guess we have different definitions of "divine".

Yeah.
If homo sapiens were genetically engineered, it still means that it could only have happened tinkering with biological processes, not through the application of magic.
In other words, they would have had to have studied and mastered microbiological processes.
In fact, the Sumerian texts say that the feat of human creation was a trial and error, until they finally got the desired traits.

I watch a lot of science fiction movies and it is a very common in sci-fi literature to find plots woven around the consequences of human creating robots capable of Artificial Intelligence.

But this is no more fiction as scientists are coming closer and closer to making very intelligent robots which might be able to question their own existence.

I have been really thinking about this issue and what it means for christianity. As a Christian, humanoid-looking robots with AI functionality creates a serious challenge for my faith. It raises questions about what it means to be a “creation” and it also creates an ethical homework in which we as Christian have to figure out how to treat robots fairly, as they become our fellow conscious beings. Yes, treating robots like humans will become an issue because scientists tend to make robots look as human as possible and so, there might be a time where humans might be indistinguishable from robots.

Here is a list of questions that an inquisitive Christian would probably ask as a result of robots having AI-

-Do we as human beings become more “God-like” since God created us in His own image and we have created robots in our own image?

-Would sex with robots be considered bestiality or perverted from a Christian point of view?

-Would robots have souls? Would they be judged on judgement day?

-Should robots have human rights? Or would they be “robot rights”

-Can a robot be a pastor or reverend father since we already have robot factory workers?

-Should robots eat Holy Communion?

-Can a human get married to a robot?

-Should robots be baptized or granted church membership?

What do you think about these questions? Would conscious robots challenge your faith?

you over-celebrate scientific feat of man because of your little insight of it.
To be have an informed appraisal you will need to have expert insght yourself and not relying on account of others.
As a building and computing expert I can assure you the best computing prowress of man has not come in any way close to the miracle of brain abstract processing capability.
Computer process logically using finite instruction set while brain process abtractly with infine instruction set. The gap is light years apart.
So bro stop fiction and face reality by getting the first hand knowledge. Shalom

A computer never forgets. Even the most efficient brain forgets details every goddamn second.

And as I have previously said, there is a simple shortcut to all this- half man, half robot. Viola! conscious robot.

By the way, you are neither a neurologist, psychologist nor a computer programmer. wink

I am a computer scientist of 15 years experience and have been interested in the issue of AI some sometimes now.
Dont let the occultic scientist dellude you about the caopacity of man's tech. We are still far behind God.
Our development is still machine based. We can begin to appraise ourselves when we start changing our own being to super human biologically.
Imagine what the Bible says about Jesus coming to fight nuclear war at Amagedon with His bear hand sitting on a white horse. That an advance tech being deployed by advanced being.

There are so many horrors that modern technology can do that surpass what is written in revelations. And by the way, revelations is supposed to be metaphorical and not literal.

I agree that scientists are below God but I still do not underestimate them.

Your questions.
Are you sure that you are thinking carefully?
Because we are also concerned about such issues as your conscience, emotions, desires and beyond these, just your being, if a being exists there at all.

Please we have re-programmed you. Kindly think carefully and give an answer.

In case you are confused about the re-programming, please note that there is an innuendo in this question.
Thank you.

first of all, there is a vast difference between intelligence and concsiousness.scientists are no where near in creating a concsious being, they dont even know its mechanism of action and they are still quite far in creating even a human-like intelligent robot.i dont think this is something we can ever know because of the subjectivity of concsiousness i.e involving self awareness.if we were to create a robot with full human-like intelligence how can we ever tell if the robot is actually concsious or not?

Fair write up.
But I think You are wrong, primarily because most of us are not current with advancements in this area.
Another point is that whenever scientific analysis of consciouness is presented, most people ignore or shove it aside because it tends to nullify our beliefs about what it is.

CONSCIOUSNESS IS SIMPLY THE AGGLOMERATION OF INTERACTIVE INFORMATION.

Interactive information are the keywords here.
. Where and whenever interactive information reaches a certain mathematical threshold, a commensurate level of consciouness ensues.

In other words, consciousness, just like every other natural phenomena, obeys the laws of mathematics and physics.

Computers may not appear to rival human consciouness at this time, for very obvious reasons. Human consciousness is a product of 4.7 billion years of interactive information.

The human brain also operates in the quantum physical arena, which makes it vastly complex beyond the scope of classical physics.

Believe it or not, the Internet, the world wide webb is so far the closest we have in artificial consciouness and self awareness because it is the Biggest assemblage or aglomeration of interactive information.

All we need now is a quantum computer, and viola!, the world wide webb comes fully alive, consciouness and self aware, if it is not already so.

How do you know that you are conscious? Your answer to that question will help you understand if a robot is conscious.

Now, never say never. Back when Moses was writing the 10 commandments on a stone tablet, little did he know that over 3000 years later, a digital tablet would be available.

And now, technology has advanced so much that what we think will happen in 3000 years will happen earlier in 30 years.

Artificial intelligence is based on learning. Any information an A. I. already knows is simply what was programmed into it. Anything after that would be "learned" knowledge and behavior. Isn't this how all intelligent life learns? Basically artificial intelligences are bound by the same environmental, educational and religious backgrounds as the rest of us. Just like we learn religion from our parents, these beings will learn from what they are exposed to. If artificial intelligence was actually created it would still learn the way we do. Maybe faster, but anything imbedded from the start is not "intelligence". It is a program. From a scientific viewpoint, for all intents and purposes, these beings would be children. They would learn just like us. We are a product of what we are exposed to, plain and simple.

From a religious and personal point of view, there is a difference between a creation and something engineered. That may not make sense, but it is an opinion.
