The new international airport is a project of the Lagos State Government and it would be situated in Lekki area of Lagos State.
It is expected to begin operations with an initial capacity of 2million passengers per annum and exceeding 5million when fully operational. A Lagos State Commissioner for Commerce and Industry said “Lekki Airport Consortium is expected to gulp about $650 million (US Dollars)."

It's not been built yet, but the 3500 hectare site has been secured.

Correct. I even hope it becomes the main international gateway to Lagos in the future. It will also have the capacity to handle the A380.

In computer science a render means a model or prototype which is a graphic images created with advance softwares using a computer

The algorithms for achieving those things is so complex and am.not ready to delve deeper to explain in summary just know they are all CGI i.e computer generated images and a good software like Maya and 3d studio max can do that for you.

You are right, this airport looks like something from the 70s. Our over dependence on foreign companies that don't share our nationalistic ideologies is our major problem.
How do you think an Isreali, French or Chinese company would ever come and give you what is obtainable in their country?

I know I can do much better than this straight looking piece up there.

Neither of them have the facilities to service A380 planes. In fact, both airports would need additional millions of $$ in upgrades, like other airports elsewhere.

With a price tag of $650 million, one should expect something much better

With all these projects coming to the Lekki axis, residents should also note that there is just one Major road in and out. Govt has made no other plans to provide an alternative.
Like the poster above me said, the traffic situation will surely worsen.

There's something about the guys developing this airport and drab designs. Even the estate they're planning in Eko Atlantic too is just there, plain buildings nothing awe-inspiring. With that being said, I just want to see all these development come we'll worry about futuristic designs later.

You are right.
Compare this with terminal 3 of Abu Dhabi international airport viz a viz the price tag to understand that this is just another outright stealing.

The truth is, in this country we hardly do any realistic technical bids. All they are after is kickbacks, cuts and what not.

Very depressing to say the least.

In fact, may it not take more than forever. As of today, only one major trunk road or expressway serves as entry and exit points from Lagos, into the Victoria Island-Lekki-Epe axis which leads to Ibeju-Lekki area, where this airport would be sited. undecided

It amazes me how we keep doing things in isolation, in this country. Even if the airport is built today, will the present road capacity be adequate to take care of the influx of goods and passengers that would be using that route? shocked

This road is already bursting at the seams with traffic, and many folks have complained to the government to do something about it, especially at the Ajah end. But is the govt listening? No. They are only interested in collecting their toll gate fees. angry

A multi-modal approach needs to be taken to solve the transportation problems in this state before we can make any headway, in such matters.

With half that amount, something majestic can be built. The new mauritius aiport which is shaped like a space ship was built for $300 million dollars and it is world class. It may not be as huge as the Oliver Tambo airport in J'Burg but it's big enough. Here are pictures i took early this year of some parts of the airport. Never mind my low quality camera.

There is nothing in those pictures you posted that suggests it's a better looking airport than the Lekki one. BTW the Lekki render provided by the op is woefully insufficient for gauging the airport features. All we see is some front building.
