bushdoc9919: Removing subsidy totally is not as straightforward as you guys think, the independent marketers will take us for a ride and fix prices as they like, not even PMB can control them, there is no subsidy on diesel but look at the way the price of diesel fluctuates, this is the reality. The best way to go is to get the refineries working optimally and allow only NNPC import fuel to supplement if necessary which is what PMB wants to achieve but to leave us at the mercy of private marketers to import fuel and sell to us is suicidal. 3 Likes 1 Share |

This is a very good move by the DPR. They shouldn't relent yet. The exercise should be continuous. However, I think the fine is too small. They should be made to pay something much more bigger, so as to deter other filling stations that might want to do the same thing. 1 Like |

Goke7: We also have to build several new refineries. But even then...falling crude oil prices is going to make funding the subsidy difficult. |

I think the fine should be to pay #10 millions or seal off the station for 6 months. With that, they will maintain. In some filling station in yenagoa here, they have special pump for gallon and car's. Under no circumstances will dey sell in your gallon when you are at d pump where dey omly sell to car's, because if dey do there secret will be open. Once dey sell to your car, you can't gauge the quantity. 1 Like 1 Share |

bushdoc9919: I will only agree to this removal of subsidy thing if someone can explain the geometric rise in subsidy costs. As at 2009, subsidy cost was less than 300bn, by the end of 2011 when they wanted to remove subsidy, they told us the cost had risen to over a trillion naira even when international oil price did not double talkless of tripple, or did we buy more cars to that extent? My point is, we need to verify that daily consumption figure, IMHO its highly inflated, marketers keep taking fuel out of the country and claim subsidy and bridging expenses. You might say taking away the subsidy removes the incentive but that is dodging the main problem which is corruption! The money which will be saved via removing subsidy will still be stolen by the same corrupt officials. Pray, tell me, since government increased form 65 to 97 and reduced to 87, they have been saving 32/22 naira per litre since Jan 2012, do we have projects commensurate with this so called savings? My point is even if you remove the subsidy, those who stole must be made to pay, there must be consequences for every action, blocking loop holes AND prosecuting thieves is the way to go to reduce corruption, GEJ was only half heartedly interested in the former. 2 Likes 1 Share |

Pls dpr should check the filling stations in warri some sell at #100 and some at #97 even mobil at owhwurowu junction sells at #87 but collect extra compulsory money from the buyers, that means that they just put #87 on their meter so that people will think tgey are selling at the same price. |

bushdoc9919:And when they remove fuel subsidy how much will a litre of petrol be sold? And you should know, making profit doesn't literary translate to ripping people off. Besides, if all the funds stolen away from Nigeria hasn't crippled the economy, is see no reason whatsoever why we can go broke. |

HungerBAD:man has the propensity to cheat. That is why institutions have to be strengthened in order to check these abnormalities. There is a lot of work to be done on this Nigerian project because the level of corruption tribalism and religious bigotry would make the devil green with envy. The level in which Nigeria has taken its corruption is mind boggling and irritating. That is why most of these billionaires that we produce are just mere hustlers with no sense and educative business acumen. Just a bunch of smart Monkeys in a banana republic called Nigeria |

I really appreciate this effort by DPR at least for reaching our area for d very first time in history. I've been living at Ibeju-Lekki area since 2009 till date and I can tell u that 90% of d filling stations in this area are very unreliable and extremely corrupt. They are professionals in hoarding fuel & and prefer to sell at their own wishes. I'm totally in support of sealing their stations but would have preferred a fine of up to N1m to serve as deterrent to others that escaped this exercise. I always prefer buying my fuel in two filling stations only: Oando & World Oil filling stations around Ikate area in Lekki-Epe Expressway. I'm so glad to read this news and I'll be going out to visit d stations to know their current status. Sai BABA!!! |

100,000 is something they can make in few hours. The stations involved should be shot down for at least three month. This is something no feeling station own or employee will pray to happen to them. If this is done to them, even employee will turn DPR staffs watching any act of their boss to manipulate d metre. 1 Like |

Rubbish. I initially thought these DPR people are serious. Imagine paying just 100,000 naira fine after making millions from this dubious stealing. The stations owners will just be laughing and are definitely more smarter. |
