Special Adviser to the President on Media and Publicity, Mr. Femi Adesina has called on those criticizing his principal for appointing mostly northerners into his government to first look at how qualified those appointed are for such positions, adding that it is the President’s prerogative to appoint whoever he pleases into his government.

While enjoining those already crying wolf over Buhari’s early appointments to first take cognizance of “the personal merit of each person that has been appointed,” he stressed that: “You cannot run away from the fact that each person appointed merits the position. They are qualified!”

Adesina, who made this known Friday while speaking on RayPower’s flagship programme monitored by DAILY POST in Abuja, said: “But then in terms of the spread, the thing I will also like to say is that the President has the prerogative to make appointments and he knows that there is federal character in our constitution. I’m sure he bears that in mind as he makes the appointments that will come in the future.

“I believe that at the end of it all, there is going to be a balance.

“These are still early days in the appointments he is going to make. At the end of it all, I believe we are going to have a balance,” he stated.

Responding to the need for Buhari to make appointments bearing in mind that Nigerians of northern extraction are already leading the legislature and the judiciary, Adesina said: “Let’s not forget that some of those were by elections, some were statutorily the next person in rank. There is nothing the president can do about that. If it’s by election, what will he do about it? Because he doesn’t control the election; the National Assembly came by election.”

“For the ones he can control, there are still so many ahead,” he said stressing that any position can be key depending on the way the person appointed into the position “applies himself to that position.”

On whether Nigerians can begin to expect ministerial list, the Presidential spokesman assured that Buhari will keep to the September dateline given by him. He added that, “September is just next month and it has 30 days. I believe that within those thirty days, the job will be done.”

Let the wailers wail as if they have seen the last of the appointments PMB will make.

Those that voted against GEJ did so after it was obvious the "fresh air" he promised turned out to be stale cigar smoke.

I share in the believe that the appointments will balance out when it's complete.

If I was patient with GEJ for 5 out of 6 years, I can hold it for a while with PMB. grin

Ipetumodu, a suburb of Osogbo, the Osun State capital, was yesterday agog when the people of the community hosted their son, Mr Femi Adesina, to a grand reception on his appointment as the Special Adviser on Media and Publicity to President Muhammad Buhari.

Before Adesina, who was the immediate past President of the Nigeria Guild of Editors, NGE, arrived the palace of the Oba of Ipetumodu, HRM James Adegoke, the venue of the event, amidst tight security, in company with his wife, Adenike, government officials, a huge crowd of people, including royal fathers, traditional rulers, eminent people from all walks of life had converged on the palace hall to receive him .When he finally arrived the hall, he was greeted with thunderous ovations by the tumultuous crowd.

He beamed with smiles, acknowledging cheers from them. In attendance were Governor Rauf Aregbesola, the Senator representing Osun West Constituency at the National Assembly, Senator Babajide Omoworare, the Managing Director of The Sun Publishing Ghana, Mr Shola Osunkeye, Deputy Editor of Saturday Sun, Mr Femi Baba Femi, The Sun Assistant Editors Yinka Fabowale, and Tope Adeboboye, among other staff members of The Sun Also honoured with Adesina was, another son of Ipetumodu, A Commissioner in the National Pensions Commission, Barrister Olaoba Efuntayo.

The high point of the event were showers of prayers by Pastor Tunji Abegunde, who said the opening prayers, as well as Oba Adegoke, the Apetumodu of Ipetumodu, who prayed that Adesina would continue to “excel with Buhari throughout his tenure and also remain a great man in his life time and a pride to not only Ipetumodu his homestead, but also Osun State.” “Very soon, you will become a Chief,” he said. Oba Adegoke, in his remarks urged Adesina and Barrister Efuntayo to use their good offices to bring development to Ipetumodu, noting that; the celebration should be properly understood by those “we are honouring today as a challenge from the town to both of them that they should bring blessings to the town of their origin just ass they have themselves been blessed by God to be appointed into their positions.

Though you are far away in Abuja ,your ear should regularly be focused at home on what you can do for your people,” he added. In his response, Adesina who heartily commended his people for the honour, promised to do whatever God would give him the grace to do for his people.”I am also an appointee and I don’t give appointments. In any case, I will try my best to facilitate whatever God gives me the grace to facilitate to help our people,” he said. While speaking with journalists, Adesina assured of Buhari’s commitment to his change agenda, noting: “He came on board on the wings of change. Slow and steady wins the race. Surely the desired change will come.”The end to Boko Haram insurgency is also imminent. The president is working assiduously to archive that soon, as he promised,” he added. While also making his remarks, Governor Aregbesola commended Adesina for his professionalism, integrity, probity, and commitment to the development of this Nigeria.

Reading his profile, the Governor described him as a pride to the nation’s media profession. Aregbesola urged Adesina to work assiduously to be able to maintain the good legacies he had set in the media profession.

Indirectly, he also understands that the appointments does not represent the heterogenous nature of the country. Hence, he is talking about balancing out.
The President should understand that he has been criticised as being tribalistic, he must learn not to prove his critics right.

In the fullness of time. In the long run.

These are infinite statements that shouldn't be used by progressive leaders. It's better not to talk about an issue than to spin us a yarn.

My take is very simple. Buhari knows northerners that are loyal and incorruptible based on his association with these Northerners over the years. During the years after he was deposed as Head of State Buhari only associated mostly with northerners even while he was in ANPP and CPC.

we should not be surprised that he has chosen northerners as members of his kitchen cabinet because these are the people he knows or where suggested to him by incorruptible people he knows.

Also the unholy marriage between AC and CPC was purported by the most corrupt southerners in our recent history so if the southern faces clamouring for positions are inept or corrupt then we southerners should not blame PMB for choosing mostly Northerners .

however I think hierarchy should be considered in our civil service regardless of state of Origin and the ministerial position should reflect the Federal character, but PMB's kitchen cabinet i.e SFG and CO should be his close and trusted allies which fortunately or unfortunately are Northerners.
