Don't blame them. The corruption and poor maintenance culture in Nigeria could find it way into the engineers who service these airlines and divert the resources meant for servicing aircraft for their personal use. I always have my heart on my mouth each time I fly Arik or Aero, the aircraft keeps slanting and tilting like its riding on some bumps.

But when you fly int'l airlines it's more smooth and you have more confidence and assurance that although anything thing can still happen, it won't be because of poor maintenance or diversion of servicing funds.

Virtually all local airlines operates a flying 'MOLUEE'.
I work close to the airport and also can predict which airline is taking off the airport by just the sound. This is different on the international wing because most of the planes move like gliders.

Local planes be like flying death machine.

No need for unnecessary exaggeration.
Our airline industry is crap but it is not as bad as being claimed. In recent times, I have had a lot of local flights that left on time, landed without hitches and good service in-flight. Even during GEJ's insipid tenure.
No need sounding like every local flight is crap and delayed.
I know you have a twitter rep to defend but I doubt you need lies to defend it.

I dont believe this, unless the person has something to do in London.

Its not easy flying 6 hrs from lagos to london, hang around the airport then fly another 6 hrs to Abuja. even if the person has the money.

Then on return trip, you fly from abuja to london then to lagos.

Your bum go tell you.

Air France Crash was not by local flight operators.
Malaysian MH370 was not managed by our local operators.

You can name so many int'l flight crashes.
It's just God's protection.
Before you leave your house, pray you'll not die another person's death or die because of another man marked for death by the devil.

Some fatal accidents happen cos of just one person on board. God will protect HIS people. Happy Sunday to all.

I would rather travel by road.

This 12 hours against 45 minutes. Makes no safety since at all

No matter how you look at it, you have more chances of survival in 45 minutes flight compared to 12 hours, even if it's an old flight.

All in all, I prefer trains.. good trains.. not Oshogbo to ilorin trains.

I did Guangzhou to Beijing by air and despite Being a foreign flight, I was still scared. Air is air. Land is land..
I am doing the train on my way back..

Flying to London in other to connect Lagos from Abuja is a silly lie.
The person was on a London trip that was not bound by time and decided to go to Lagos on his way back from London.
Nobody (not even Dangote) goes to London for the sole purpose of connecting Lagos from Abuja. We need to engage out brains when telling some stories.
Our local airline industry needs an overhaul but we don't need lies to push the agenda.
I dare the Jacket fellow to name two of the Nigerians who do this connection he mentioned.

On a related note, we don't need a national carrier.
We have enough looting conduits ( SIM registration, national ID card project, amnesty program, petrol subsidy etc). National carrier will just be another of such. Most national carriers are just loss making entities. The thin line in aviation business gives no room for half-baked national carriers.
Just restructure the industry and leave private entities to make money as long as they provide commensurate service.

Last time I flew from Lagos to Abuja. Suddenly, on mid air the crew went "we expect a storm in the next 5 minutes. We don't know how serious it could be. But, don't worry it's normal by this time of the year". I was like "why do we need to know then?".

Fortunately, nothing happened. I quickly boarded luxury bus for my return trip.

Air travel in Nigeria (like elsewhere) is way safer than road travel.
I can understand a fear for air travel as a phobia but a fear and chasing road journeys in naija is not rational.

I don't believe this. Perhaps, the person has something else to do in London.
...But lets just assume some peeps attempt that crap and are deported back to Lagos.
What would they do?
Anyway, whoever does that simply has no use for money and time means nothing to them.

lf you have free money you never worked for, of course you can afford to waste it. lt doesn't make any sense for somebody going to abuja from Lagos to first fly to London. lt never will. As for safety of Nigerian airlines, l think it's fairly good. How many air crashes do we have in a year or even in years that makes some misguided people to be saying our local airlines are unsafe? ln fact some airlines like arik have very good safety record, thanks to their range of new or relatively new planes. Do they know how many air crashes are recorded in USA yearly? For those who will opt for the roads, well it's indisputable that air travel is by far safer.
