Hei,kai kai kai,why didn't this happen in Nigeria?,spare the rod and spoil the child,i do even use the iron bender if the rod is not enough...............

to those who are saying the child is too small to know the value of the money,i wonder how you guys reason,if the child don't know the value then why is it an option to punish his/her mum for not watching tv with him/her?,didn't she see other things like destroying the microwave or water tap, very heartless child, you can't spare a thief that stole #5,000 but you are here spewing trash like(find another measure to punish the child) for a child that you know flushed down 162,000 xo as to punish her mum, when has a child got a right over his/her parents,i swear if it were me,that child will go through military training before i get appeased, nonsense

how much do you get as monthly pay?,ok lets say 50k,your savings from that salary maybe 30-35k per month and you had already saved for about five months now flush the money, and you are here talking about controlling anger, wush anger you wan control?,abi you think say that kind anger na radio volume?you never jam shaa.............seriously burning with rage from the comments my nigerian bro and sis are dropping here, incase if you don't know, everything is not about civilization, this is why we are still better than them when it comes to child education and home training

let me just drop my pen cus am taking this too personal like if it were me

I totally understand that the mother acted out of frustration or anger. $720 is quite an amount to throw down the drain like that. However, the major issue is parents are not allowed to hit their kids heavily, especially if it results to body damage or psychological after-effects. Spanking is permitted, especially as a form of correction to let the child know that it did something not right. Where it gets bad is when the spanking becomes excessive, frequent or the child suffers physical or emotional damage as a result.

It is usually said that black mothers spank their children more often than white mothers.

Whoasked you this one now
Re: What Would You Do In This Situation? by menxer: 7:03am On Oct 08, 2015
It's a typical case of "spare the rod and spoil the child".

The child has never had any form of discipline from the parent, which explains the child's audacity to flush away the money knowing the mother won't bat an eye, but she did this time; and being that the mother prolly never disciplined the child, doesn't know where to draw the line between correction and abuse.

In my part of the world, Dem no born u well make u break plate while washing, talk less of flexing with ur school fees; flushing that amount of money down the drain is unimaginable.

It can't happen for Naija, even if the pikin chop witch. grin

Ps:
Though I know of a case, I ask a child in my neighborhood why he was giving the mother attitude, he replied "mother doesn't beat me or give me something to do as punishment". Single motherhood is a challenge.

I came across this story online and I was flabbergasted.

Danielle Whipple, a 24 year old single mother was arrested for beating her child who flushed their rent money down the toilet because she (the mum} refused to watch TV.

The woman's neighbours reported to the police because they heard the child crying and heard the sound of smacking. When police arrived at the scene, they found Whipple' child, whose gender and age was not released, with a black eye, a bleeding nose and a red handprint on the face.

Subsequently she was arrested and now faces a charge of felony child abuse.

Now, I am in no way in support of child abuse, but i want to throw it to Nairalanders: How would you react if your child deliberately flushed N162,000 house rent money down the toilet because you refused to watch a movie with him/her?

Note that $720 is about N162,000 in Nigerian currency.

First:
I will kneel down and ask God for FORGIVENESS because it shows that l have FAILED IN MY PARENTAL RESPONSIBILITIES.

You said "child" so l am assuming that the child is "between 4 and 9yrs of age".

The good Book said "TRAIN your child... and he/she will give you REST"!
The corollary is that "if you fail to train your child, he/she will cause you a lot of grief and heartache".

So, who do you blame for the grief that Mother is going through?
grin grin

Most children in the "WEST" (a.k.a Abroad) are over-pampered, untrained (common to greet elder sef, na so dem go open thattheir big lips dey look you like otondo! grin ), disrespectful, lacking in spiritual and moral values and spoilt to the core!

Okay, ask your neighbour in Ajegunle or Nnewi or Rumour Okere grin ...what he wil do if he or she is annoyed and sees a wad of Naira Notes?
Answer: God don butter my bread be dat, l go buy Coke, l go buy Blead, I go buy Ice-Cleam, l go hide the res tunder my Mama Bed take buy Cloth during Christmas!
That is Naija child for you.... unlike those "Agric Chickens" we rear abroad!

On a serious note, If that Parent has been instilling "morals and values" into her child, that child wont be so wayward.
To now beat her to the stage of bloodshed.... that is unacceptable!

I dont wish she is jailed and her child siezed but she need to be taught a lesson: Dont ever scold your child ...IN ANGER! That is child abuse!

Let the anger subside first (Wooh, l go kill this child o! shocked )..... then "Lovingly like a loving parent", talk some sense into that child.. and you may add some cane, mildly for "effects"!

But if your child has become "panaky", talk from today till next year, as e dey enter left ear, na so e dey commot through right ear! grin grin

Train your child, from an early age, in the way of the Lord. when they grow up, they will not depart from it.

In other stories, l will quickly go and buy digger and dig that money out of the Shyte, no matter how smelly! grin

That's how they spoil children with the idea that he/she is still a child.

I am a mother and a Christian. My Bible empowers me to flog my erring child. Proverbs 22:15, in other to save him and I do flog. The result is that no child of mine will flush down five naira in protest of anything whatsoever.

Hmmmmm. . The child does know. The child knew very well what would pain the mum. It's like a vendetta..

Why not her pills, which may be easily accessible.

Why not tear her clothes or smash the remote controller of the TV.?

Why the money?

The child obviously knew that would make the mum go wild... And she sure did.
