1. Oil Fields from Space: Night views of Earth show the distribution of oil field activity(NASA).

Nigeria is the largest producer of oil in Africa. Much of that production is offshore and in the Niger Delta where exploration, production, processing and transport facilities are illuminated at night and where natural gas is flared because it lacks a local market or transport options. There are also numerous locations of oil activity offshore of Angola, Congo and Gabon. This satellite image was compiled by NASA, the annotations, caption, and inset map were produced by by Geology.com.

12. Diamonds are a high-temperature, high- pressure minerals. They do not form naturally at Earth's surface or at shallow depths. The conditions where they can form are in Earth's mantle about 100 miles below the earth's surface.

13. As in other gemstones, color variants in diamond can be caused by impurities, heat or irradiation. Nitrogen in the stone causes a yellow color. Irradiation can produce greens. Irradiation then heating can produce almost any color.

14. One of the World's most amazing mining equipments.

BelAZ 75710.

The BelAZ 75710 is an ultra-class haul truck by Belarusian manufacturer BelAZ. At 500 short tons, it is the world's largest, highest payload capacity haul truck Design.bThe BelAz 75710 has a conventional two-axle setup, but with dualled wheels (like a scaled-up International Payhauler 350), hence it needs eight 59/80 R63 tyres. Unusually, it has four-wheel drive and four-wheel hydraulic steering. The turning radius is claimed to be 20 metres. The 75710 can carry a 450 tonne (500 short tons) load. The empty weight is 360 tonnes much more heavily built than the previous model, which was 240 tonnes. It is 20.6 metres long, 8.16 metres high, and 9.87 metres wide. The bed is relatively shallow, limiting the volume of material that can be carried. Instead of a single engine, the Siemens MMT 500 drive system (with AC/AC diesel-electric transmission based on the ELFA inverters) is powered by two 65-litre 16-cylinder diesel engines, each with 2300 horsepower. 2 engines working together give a power of 4,600 hp. This, in addition to the shallow bed, dualled tyres, and very heavy empty weight, has led to concerns about operating efficiency. Fuel consumption (according to company data) is 198 g/kWh per engine, with option to run on only one if carrying less than capacity loads. Maximum speed is 64 km/h, and economy maximum speed (when fully loaded and on a 10% gradient) is 40 km/h.

16. Total daily oil consumption around the world is 84,249,000 barrels/day.

17. Crude oil is considered the "mother of all commodities "because of its use in the manufacturing of numerous products, including gasoline, synthetic fabrics, plastics and pharmaceuticals.

18. Texas is the leading state in crude oil productionwith over 5 billion barrels in reserves.

19. Products like fertilizers, plastics, car tires, ammonia, perfumes and even bubble gum are synthesized using petroleum products obtained during the crude oil refining process.

20. OPEC countries hold over three-quarters of the world’s provenoil reserves, and that number is rising.

21. The U.S. has over 200,000 miles of oil pipelines within its borders.

22. Saudi Arabia’s Ghawar oil field contains about 85 billion barrels of oil (the world’s largest).

23. Oil is created from the decomposition of organic materials under intense heat and pressure over millions of years.

24. The largest oil spill in history, the Deepwater Horizon oil spill in 2010, spilled 4.2 million barrels of oil into the Gulf of Mexico.

25. According to a major study, about 80% of all oil spills are caused by human error.

26. Saudi Arabia is the largest oil producer today and has the largest amount of reserves (267 billion barrels).

27. The U.S. is the biggest consumer of oil at over 19.5 million barrels a day.

28. Thanks to large amounts of oil reserves and government subsidies, as of December 2010,the average price of gas in Caracas, Venezuela is 12 cents per U.S. gallon.

29. Diesel fuel produced about 11% more energy than an equalvolumeof gasoline and actually produces slightly less carbon dioxide emissions.

31. Oil rigs are necessary tools in the exploration, extraction and refinement of oil deposits both on land and at sea. If you live in a coastal city, particularly a city that contains oil refineries, you may be able to see oil rigs from the shore of your local beach. Oil rigs are interesting for their intricate processes, regulations and sheer numbers globally.

32. Portability: Oil rigs, unlike their predecessors from the early days of oil drilling, are quite portable, and can be transported from one drilling site to the next. The tall derrick located on the oil rigs contains the drilling pipe and bits necessary to pierce the bedrock in search of oil. When the oil rig has pumped all of the available oil from the location, the well is sealed and the pipe equipment is hauled back onto the rig. A large ship or tug boat(s) then tows the rig to its next destination.

Six types of oil rigs operate around the world collecting oil. Semisubmersible oil rigs are the preferred type of rig for deep-sea oil exploration due to the stability of the structure, which, when flooded with water, remains nearly motionless at the surface of an ocean. A typical oil platform is built from concrete and steel, and can not only drill for oil, but also can process and refine the oil.

Jack-up rigs extend long legs to the bottom of the sea floor to provide stability to the structure. The Jack-up is limited by the depth of water in which it can operate. The last three drill ships, flotels and mobile storage units are meant as temporary oil extraction structures when a larger oil rig cannot be used.

33. One of the largest oil Tankers in the world.

Prelude FLNG is the world's first floating liquefied natural gas platform as well as the largest offshore facility ever constructed. ThePrelude is being built by the Technip/Samsung Consortium (TSC) in South Korea for a joint venture between Royal Dutch Shell, KOGAS, and Inpex. She is 488 metres (1,601 ft) long, 74 metres (243 ft) wide, and made with more than 260,000 tonnes of steel. At full load, she will displace more than 600,000 tonnes, more than five times the displacement of a Nimitz-class aircraft carrier with 220-240 crews. The hull was launched in December 2013.
