In the old testament their are laws that if you break, God will deal with you accordingly, God love required justice,
so God deal with them accordingly, but in the book of Jeremiah God say “FOR I
WILL FORGIVE THEIR WICKEDNESS AND
WILL REMEMBER THEIR SINS NO MORE .”indicating God will have mercy and "FORGIVE THEIR WICKEDNESS" no more only if they ask for forgiveness.
