A student who can score high grades in other subjects and can not obtain credit in English and mathematics is not brilliant enough for university education. There is stiff competition for admission into our universities therefore there is no need to lower the entry barrier
. Thank you

But why should a science or engineering student who had grade A and Bs in Maths, Physics, Chemistry, Biology and Agricultural Science/Geography be denied admission because of a failure or a pass in English Language?

Did he write those subjects in Vernacular?

Maybe

...if this is true

what is this one saying...nawa o

If you waive English and math for students at ordinary level, I guess he will come write its advanced level courses for them in higher institution ...or that would be waived too...might as well issue out graduate certificates to all Nigerians for 'free' because we want us to be educated....mschew!

Some fools who think that they are wise or educated will condem him but if i may say please ask any of your uncle's or aunty who schooled in the 80s, early 90s if it was compulsory and then compare the standard of education then with now it will simply tell you that these subjects made compulsory adds little or nothing to our educational system

Stop using SCHOOL as a verb. It is never used in that context.

R

Sometimes you just feel mad when u read or hear some statements from our leader's, I think the solution for Nigeria is to break up so each region can teach their students with their local language... If not atenuje why should imoites vote a hooligans as their leader when they have very brilliant and high intellectuals Wait does it mean our leader's will keep on been hooligans and Touts

These leaders just ain't doing nuffin, imagine you been hired for a job and all you can do is critize and condemn others

My fellow Nigerians,
Let us not forget that these universities are just asking for a CREDIT in both subjects.
Not a DINSTINCTION.
You need not be a wizard in both subjects, the university just needs you to show your AVERAGE commitment in both subjects.

BTW: An average knowledge is the least requirement from those subjects if you hope to be able to compete in these modern times.
Re: Don’t Make English, Maths Compulsory For Students Seeking Admission – Okorocha by moshino(m): 9:27pm On Nov 29, 2015
This same English and Math requirement peppered rochas okorocha during his time, and stopped him from going to University. He ended up with OND, now he wants them eliminated - APC change? This is NOT the Change Nigerians had in mind o! We want students to measure UP, NOT measure DOWN!

Good.

Writing science in vernacular (native language) is actually how it's supposed to be. That's how Chinese, Japanese, Koreans, Russians, e.t.c do it. English language should be banned entirely in African schools, instead credit should be required on our native languages in exchange. Only students interested in studying English should study English. That's how Asians do it!.

English language is not a standard for learning!.

So how different language textbooks should be created then?
3? 10? Or should we just create 200 different language textbooks for all the languages in Nigeria.
Your idea is good but it is not practical. The reason English is our official language is because not everyone speaks the same local language. It would be unfair to force minority groups to speak a major language just because you prefer it that way. And even if we decided to teach in our major languages how would one person who has only learnt Igbo communicate with someone who can only speak Yoruba in business? As long as Nigeria still exist, our official language will continue to be English. Even if Biafra was created with the South South and South East, the official language would also still be English. Just because something works in one country doesn't mean it will work in others. Africa is too diverse a continent to nationwide traditional languages in all the countries.

A lot of Chinese have minimal understanding of English, but excellent in Science and Math. It's not by English perfection ooo.
I didn't narrow it to English language. I said languages. Chinese language is also studied by the Chinese and they must have a certain grade in it in China before getting into high school. That you speak a language doesn't mean you know it.
