Nigeria Is Now A More Divided Country – Bishop Kukah by kodded(m): 6:06pm On Jan 10, 2016

Bishop Matthew Kukah of the Catholic Diocese
of Sokoto, on Sunday regretted the inequalities
between the public office holders in Nigeria and
the masses.
The Bishop, who spoke at the Holy Ghost
Cathedral Enugu in a thanksgiving mass to mark
the re-wedding of old Anambra State Governor,
Senator Jim Nwobodo and his wife in the
Catholic church, attributed the inequality to
corruption among public office holders.
He added that this had resulted in persistent
crisis and youth restiveness in the nation.
Bishop Kukah called on Igbos as a people with a
common language and culture to be united and
ensure security and peace in the area to
actualize socio-economic development,
regretting that Nigeria was today a country that
is more divided.
He observed that life did not depend only on
power and money, enjoining Christians
irrespective of their denominations to close
ranks and strive towards evangelism which is
the common goal.
Kukah, who gave a homily during the holy mass,
which also coincided with the service to mark
the 2016 Armed Forces Remembrance /Appeal
Fund Week warned the catholic faithful not to be
over excited by feeling that they had gained
where the Anglicans lost, adding that there is
no gain and loss in the matter.
He appealed to all Christians to close ranks and
endeavour to achieve success in evangelism
which is the most important Christian goal.
Bishop Kukah Commended the Anglican Church
for nurturing Chief Jim Nwobodo from birth till
the time he joined Catholic church.
He added that Senator Nwobodo’s entry into the
Catholic church is a home coming, recalling that
all Christian churches pulled out from Catholic
church, because of the protest from the then
Rev. Fr. Martin Luther.
He warned that people should not judge others
but allow judgement for God.
The bishop expressed happiness that since the
enthronement of Pope Francis and the
emergence of his “down to earth simplicity and
freshness”, the Catholic church had continued
to grow.
In a remark, Senator Nwobodo noted that his
entry into the Catholic church as a home coming
which God has destined.
According to him, since he embraced Catholic
church, things have started turning around
positively for him and his family.
Governor Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi of Enugu State, who
was the sponsor of the wedding with his wife
Monica, took the first reading in the church
service attended by top government officials,
friends and relations of the celebrant, including
Bishop emeritus of Enugu Catholic Diocese,
Most. Rev. Dr. Anthony Gbuji, and the Bishop of
the Diocese, Most Rev. Callistus Onaga.

He is saying nothing but the truth. Nigerians always like to shy away from the truth. Last year revealed so much about the true state of Nigeria as regards inter ethnic and get political relations.
We should not forget that it was just last year, a sitting traditional Monarch threatened people of a majority tribe against voting contrary to his wishes.

Youths of a majority tribe threatened to burn down a major media establishment because they felt the establishment promoted hate campaigns against their tribal presidential candidate

Just last year, a majority tribe was bitterly castigated for for their voting pattern in the elections. Only them were targeted.

Last year, there were widespread protests in a section of the country bitterly agitating for secession.

Nigeria has never been so divided since the civil war.

Re: Nigeria Is Now A More Divided Country – Bishop Kukah by MrPresident1: 8:44pm On Jan 10, 2016
The Bishop is correct. Nigeria is an artificial contraption, it is not a real country because the disparate peoples who are Nigerians do not have the same spiritual template. God Himself cobbled Nigeria together by Himself for a certain period of time, to keep His people safe until He is ready to deliver them from their enemies and oppressors, until the end of their tribulation.

Many of the peoples of Nigeria are not aboriginal Africans, they came from other places, they were displaced from their aboriginal lands and have found a temporary abode in Africa until the One who displaced them is ready to call them back home. People are rousing up from sleep, and the differences in spiritual make up are becoming more and more glaring.

Ezekiel 39:27
When I have brought them again from the people, and gathered them out of their enemies' lands, and am sanctified in them in the sight of many nations;
28 Then shall they know that I am the LORD their God, which caused them to be led into captivity among the heathen: but I have gathered them unto their own land, and have left none of them any more there.

This is why Nigeria is not moving forward. we had a president that dragged the name of this country through the mud both locally and internationally with corruption for more than 5years and almost wrecked the economy, government officials looting the national treasury with impunity in a free for all atmosphere, absolute insecurity and the likes, simply because we had a weak president who couldn't take tough stance against corruption and corrupt officials. a president who openly said " stealing government money isn't corruption". with billions of dollars in public funds disappearing like magic on a daily basis. now we have the direct opposite of all that in President Buhari. a man on a mission to sanitize the cancerous system and Nigerians are complaining. even those who openly campaign for change are being manipulated into believing and taking sides with the fools whose only interest is their pockets and tribalism against National interest. Forgetting that the igbos will cause confusion snd when Nigeria falls apart politically and economically they will clamour aggressively for autonomy hoping to take the oil rich region along(which will never happen). Nigerians deserve what they get. But I thank God President Buhari is a man with a skin as tough as an elephants'.

SHAME ON YOU NIGERIANS.

BUHARI IS ALWAYS RIGHT.

Hmmmmm

(Sips metaphorical cup of tea...)

Nigeria's problem isn't what the rev says it is.

Nigeria's problem is and always has been Nigerians.

Recently, it was reported that one of our top musicians who is also a university student was going to be allowed to sit the exams despite not meeting the requirements needed to write the exam. Someone posted in response on nairaland here supporting the guy...and he got more than 100 likes. Indeed....

Not to long ago, several young people died while looking for job in various stadiums. In a sane country, the people responsible would have been fired, or would have resigned, and there would have been prosecutions. But....none of that happened.

Again, we have the current case where two crooks have been granted bail....and bail has not been granted. Or the dozens of people killed in the NE over the years for being boko without proof. Or the thousands who have died in the Fulani-Farmer clashes across the country.Or the fact that people who can overinflate contracts still get jobs in power.

But none of this is as horrible as the story, which happened over a decade ago, of the taxi driver who had a customer leave a large sum of money in his car. The taxi driver returned the money. Guess what happened next....he was sacked, his wife left him and his neighbours made fun of him.....for being honest.

When I read stories like this....I know that there is a problem with Nigeria. And resource control, true federalism, new legal systems, national conference, or whatever is not going to fix it. And splitting the country....will just create several dozen mini versions of the same problem.

Perhaps we spend all our time chanting ''True federalisim'' as if it would solve our problems because Nigerians really do not want to face their real problem. The problem with Nigerians is....they want to eat. They do not want to work to solve their problems. They want to eat money all day long....because it is their right. And that is what is driving calls to split the country....or to keep the country one...the fact that people are not getting enough to eat. With that kind of attitude...you can see why I do not support the division of the country. It would just be like problem changing name....and multiplying. And several hungry new nations together.....united or divided....is not good news.

In my opinion, we should stop bothering about how the money is shared....and focus on how we can solve our problems through hard work and ingenuity. That is how serious people think....and one side effect of that thinking is prosperity. It is only poor people that fight over money...and it must be noted that Nigeria is not a rich nation. We should stop all this talk about unity or lack thereof....and sort out ourselves on a personal level. Because....or problem is....we are not a good people....we are a greedy people. And it is high time we left that greed alone...and got to work. No food for lazy man.
