on average I use over 250G for netflix and my other internet usage every month here in Canada for a service that costs over CAD60.

i am not sure Nigeria is ready for that.

No service provider(MTN, glo airtel or etisalat) can provide you better deal except for rip-off.

my advice, just like the op said, say away from netflix.

Over 250GB per month? shocked

I'm not sure Ive used upto 20GB on Netflix between December and now.

lmao!!! cheesy

You no know before? angry

HD movies are like 1.5/2GB per hour, now let's say you watched each movie for like 2 hours.

That's 2GB X 2 =4GB

>> 4GB X 7 = 28GB angry

>> 1 Documentary *Coughs* Let's say that one was like 2GB undecided

>> 3 Episodes of a Series.

Each Episode is about 40 minutes. Let's say Each Episode consumed 1GB

1GB X 3 =3GB

Oya 28GB + 2GB +3GB = 33GB

And If you're not rewinding while streaming it ought to require less bandwidth depending on the protocol you use though.

This is just an estimate though

Now where's the remaining 20+GB? Either you used it for other things or ya lying angry angry

Btw, pay me for my analysis. Tanchu! undecided

Signed for Netflix 3 days ago. Myself and Wifey watched 7 HD Movies, 1 Documentary, and 3 Episodes of a Series. Just within 3 days it has exhausted 60GB of Data from Swift that costs 25k. So I have decided to get rid of Netflix for now.

Nigeria is not Ripe for Netflix until our ISPs begin to Offer Fast and Unlimited Internet Subscription. DSTV appears to be the only Reasonably Priced option for now.

What's the payment like? Is it a ine time payment for whatever you want to watch e.g.: 7k per month or do youo pay per movie watched? Thanks

While I agree with you that it is expensive to stream movies in Nigeria, I think you are exaggerating. I use Netflix here in the UK and watch more movies that you have listed in a week. Truth be told 60g data is too much .

Internet data is probably the cheapest thing money can buy in the USA. I am presently on the $35 dollar a month Time Warner Cable(TWC) plan, plus $5 modem rental fee. My white neighbor agreed to split the bill with me, so i pay $20 per month. On top this 20 bucks, i dey stream anything streamable from hulu to netflix to hbo and youtube etc. Monthly data consumption is in the excess of 400 GB.

So I got a notice of a $10 increase from TWC last month because according to them I was on a 2 yrs promotional period which expired last month. I called them to inform them I'm not happy customer anymore, that they should come pick-up their modem. They begged me to retain their services without the added fees!

Oh I see, you use Shaw. Yea, Series do take lots of data though.

I dont even know my apartment's network provider, cos it's charged with the rent. But I know it's unlimited data.

That's the trick, just say you don't want their service no more and they'll let u keep it with no extra charge but when next you're on holiday don't try in naija o else they'll collect everything and even charge u for leaving their service sef grin grin

We are being cheated in Nigeria. Internet access should be the least of things one should worry about. Honestly, when I consider how 'useless' Internet access is here, I don't feel like returning home. cheesy

These Nigerian ISP's are not being creative, since knowing netflix is coming to nigeria, and they know international data rate is expensive to them. Why not ask netflix to provide a CDN (Content Distribution Network) in Nigeria on their network!? Common Sense

1. All netflix content will be CACHED in Nigeria (Anyone from Nigeria accessing Netflix will get local content) cheaper for ISP, makes it easier to offer a cheaper netflix streaming data package.
2. Netflix wins, as more Nigerians can now watch it without dying of gbese!

Thats why we say Nigeria is bleeped country. USA govt, through its defense dept, practically developed what now know as internet in the 60s. In the 1990s,through 'High Performance Computing Act of 1991', US was able to revolutionize the internet space. Government spending on requisite infrastructure is not there in Nigeria. To get fast and cheap internet, We need to make huge financial investments in our infrastructure.

USA internet is even not as fast as South Korea and some countries in Europe.

Actually, timed unlimited Internet is the best, for example, you can get 2 hours unlimited on airtel for N360 so same 7 movies will cost around N2200

Or you just maximise use of night and weekends plans.
