This is Hilarious! Even if you've not been home for 50 years, thank God for the existence of news, the internet, social media which makes it very possible for you to know everything that is happening in this country without being here. I'm sure you'll know about the unemployment situation, poverty, unstable exchange rates, inequality, corruption, poor health care and educational system as well as other vices in Nigeria in Nigeria. The human beings here are suffering as it is and you expect government to cater for animals when it can barely cover the needs of the People? I agree the Op showed unnecessary cruelty towards that poor animal by killing it though.

The government may not build animal homes but they can make policies to protect wild life from unnecessary harassment, And yeah I would love to see the Nigerian situation improve, but still, the animals are every bit as Nigerian as anyone else, yes this is their land too. We can start improving our country by showing care for the environment and the creatures that live within it. Anyone can open an animal care home, we have so many NGOs, some of them ought to be trying to help these creatures, perhaps they don't publicize their activities much.

Your last statement shows you do care about the animals. You are right that at the moment, these animals might not easily find a shelter in Nigeria. As a matter of fact, their natural habitat is more conducive for them than animal shelters, but most of these are built by well meaning groups or individuals who feel that certain species of wildlife are being threatened in their natural habitat. A time may come when we would need to preserve our Nigerian animals from going extinct.
