Senate Rejects N130 Daily Feeding For Prison Inmates by 360metrosports: 2:32pm On Feb 09, 2016
The sum of N130 has been budgeted for the feeding of each of the inmates in prisons across the country, the Senate heard on Tuesday.
The revelation was made when Minister of Interior, Retired General Abdulrahaman Dambazzau appeared before members of the Senate Committee on Interior for budget defence.


Chairman of the Committee, Senator Bayero Usman Nafada said the budgetary allocations for the feeding of the inmates was too small.
“N200 was budgeted for the feeding of each of the inmates in our prisons. And if you remove taxes and contractors profit, only N130 will remain, “he said.
In his response, Dambazzau said the ministry will look into it.

It costs $1.63 to feed a Maryland inmate in 2010====inflation taken into account $2 this days...how on earth is a Grown ass male supposed to feed on less than $1===really shocking on the Nigerian Prison system undecided

N130 is equal to1 meal per day, and is equivalent to agege bread N70, ewa agonyin N50 and pure water N10.

This matter is complex because even if you put N1000 for feeding of prisoners the people that will be rejoicing are the wardens and prison officials.

The food will neva get to the prisoners.

That one can't even buy bread!!! They should just sentence every prisoner to death instead of sending them to prison to starve to death anyway

it's you that didn't comprehend what he said. The tax mentioned here relates to the amount to be paid by the food contractors. Contracts are usually awarded with built in tax provisions.
