the Word is clear..if you eat meat, it is no sin because all meat created by God is clean for consumption..if you abstain from meat for some religious reasons, you have not sinned either..neither should condemn each other..but if you do any of those (eating or not eating) without conviction in your spirit, then you have wronged yourself which is sin..

Eating or not eating meat is not a sin. You make it a sin by your conviction or what you tie not eating meat to.
God is not interested whether u eat meat or not because it has been made clean by Him and you are to eat with thanks.
However the Catholic church has placed it as a law binding all catholics from 14yrs old and make sure they observe it. The only people exempted are those who medically need meat for nutrition.
Its a Churches self made and self impossed belief and not from God.

Some people sha. The bible never mention anything about christmas yet we celebrate christmas. We worship on sundays even when the bible specifically pointed out saturday which is sabbath as the day of worship. Yet people will come here and shout that bible is there guide on spiritual matters but fail to obey the same bible when it doesnt suit them. Its alright. As for today, you just have to deprive yourself of anything that gives you joy and reflect on the passion of Christ. It musnt be meat anyway just anything you think you can't do without for a day.

Its more of abstaining yourself from what you enjoy most... That law was made centuries ago when meat was still a pricey food ingredient. Today, it be that we should try to abstain from things that we are so much addicted to... Maybe like too much drinking etc... for those that cant go a day without chatting or using the social media, one can decide to stay away from the internet on wed/fridays...

Its not a sin @all, but it's a practice started by d orthodox catholic church in which abstinence from meat consumption is encouraged as a form of fasting 2commemorate d crucifixion of Jesus Christ. Although Jesus cudn't have died on a friday if u calculate his arrest, subsequent death n resurrection. It's still just a religious belief practiced by the Catholic n Anglican community, n not God's commandment for righteous living.

It's not a mandatory edict. It's just a sacrificial abstinence from meat encouraged by the church, neither is it a sin if you flaunt the rule.

In John's Dryden's words: "It's the punishment & deprivation of the bodies for the sins of the soul". Similar to Opus Dei members that practice self-flagellation

Besides, you can eat meat on Fridays during Lent. The only days stipulated for abstinence from meat are Ash Wednesday & Good Friday(Canon 1250)

The reason is to acknowledge the message of Easter, which is the celebration of the sacrifice Christ made in dying for our sins. Since Christ made the sacrifice with his flesh and blood, we are not to eat the flesh of animals today, this is mainly to signify our awareness of his sacrifice and in honor of him.

Bro, if you went to cathecism as a catholic (I'm assuming you are catholic), you would really not bring up this post here. However, let me enlighten you.

1. It is not Ash Wednesday and Every Friday during lent, but Ash Wednesday and Good Friday

2. It is one of the age old doctrines of the Catholic church that ENCOURAGES people to fast and abstain from things which matter most. At the time this doctrine was formatted, meat was considered food for kings and the very rich, hence the church called on catholics to observe the practice as a form of self mortification or self suffering so that one could be closer to God.

It is really not a sin, but because the Church proclaimed it in the ancient past as a sin, it has been carried to this day. I personally believe it is one of such proclamations which need to be reviewed for doctrinal correctness.
