Some people sha. The bible never mention anything about christmas yet we celebrate christmas. We worship on sundays even when the bible specifically pointed out saturday which is sabbath as the day of worship. Yet people will come here and shout that bible is there guide on spiritual matters but fail to obey the same bible when it doesnt suit them. Its alright. Not only meat you can abstain from, things like alcohol smoking or any other thing thing that glorifies the flesh too much.
Catholics never say you must abstain from meat or you would be judge by the meat you eat.
The reason why people talk of meat is that it is something most people eat and rarely can do without.

not every thing is about sin. Abstaining from meat is just meant to keep u in a mood suitable for reflection just like abstaining from food when fasting. Eating meat on ash wednesday is not a sin in Catholic doctrine, though it is recommended not to eat meat

Meat has been generally seen as something that gives people pleasure and satisfaction whenever we consume it. But abstaining from meat on ash Wednesday is a form of abstinence dim fit by the church for everybody not to eat for effective participation n communion system. The church might decide to say everybody should abstain from garri, fish, even water its left for her. I̶̲̥̅̊n̶̲̥̅̊ the book of prophet Joel even the animals where asked to fast too while the people aя̩̥̊ε̲̣̣̣̥ to put on sack clothes n ashes. Biblically speaking there has never been a place where people aя̩̥̊ε̲̣̣̣̥ asked to abstain from meat except the unclean ones. The reason I think the church has categorize consumption of meat as sin is because its an obligation n contrary to it is Sin against the law of the church. Which is a sin of disobedience.

Its not a sin @all, but it's a practice started by d orthodox catholic church in which abstinence from meat consumption is encouraged as a form of fasting 2commemorate d crucifixion of Jesus Christ. Although Jesus cudn't have died on a friday if u calculate his arrest, subsequent death n resurrection. It's still just a religious belief practiced by the Catholic n Anglican community, n not God's commandment for righteous living.

This was the explanation we were told when we were young cos the teacher knew our iq was low but if u tell a pentecostal what u said it will be a mockery of the church. Lent =fasten + abstinence.
