sonofthunder:

just one galaxy contains hundreds of billions (about 200 billion thereabout) of stars, and same value (approximately not exact) goes for galaxies... so you have trillions if not zillions of stars.
(hope I ain't giving you a headache?)

My goodness! To imagine the stars are almost the same size or bigger than our own sun.

Naaah the sun is just too hot i mean Millions of ° hot..

Most stars are extremely hot ..

Well, if science can achieve that, I pray it should in my lifetime.

our is not that big compared to others... trying to comprehend the universe is try to run 'mad'...Lol.
if you really interested in science try and learn about subatomic particles and discoveries in that area. there's not been many new discoveries with the big objects but the 'small things' are getting really interesting.

[b]10.Revolution

This is for the ones that think the sun is stationary... Well sorry but it is far from it..

Moons revolve around planets
Planets around stars
Stars around center of a galaxy
the galaxies orbit some bigger galaxies or in a dance of gravitational beat.

all matter in the universe goes on a jolly ride with the expansion of space time..

Our universe is constantly in motion.... Nothing is stagnant or stationary, there is always motion..

The sun is located in the milky way galaxy, in the Orion's arm of the galaxy which is one of the arms of the spiral galaxy..

Like every spiral galaxy, all the arms are swirling around the center of the galaxy.. Stars with planets, clouds and dust.

So our sun alongside with all the solar system is in orbit around the milky way galaxy..

the milky way galaxy is 100,000light years in diameter, the sun (solar system) is about 27,000 light years away from the galactic center.

so it takes about ±250 million years for the sun to complete one resolution around the galactic center.

So yes the sun is not stationary... Picture below: The single dot points where the sun and entire planetary system is in the whole milky way galaxy

The Qur'an has mentioned this, several 100 years ago. Suratul Yasin(Q. 36 vs 38). Look it up

[b] 3. The sun is 4.6 billion years old

Yeah judging from life spans of Stars, we could say our sun is still a middle aged vibrant young lady..

Approximately 4.6 billion years old it will take up to about 5billion years old for it to exhaust it's hydrogen supply and therefore begin it's dying process.

Our sun as an average star will die in a slow and very treacherous way.. Now it has an abundant supply of hydrogen to maintain nuclear fusion in it's core which provides all the energy.

Hydrogen+hydrogen---> helium.

when this hydrogen supply runs out, it will start fusing helium atom to make heavier elements.

Helium + Helium -----> Iron, oxygen, Carbon.

at this stage it turns into what we know as a Red giant.. Gets cooler but larger and appear bright yellowish-red.

And that stage Mercury and Venus are goners and the earth will be as close to the sun as mercury..

then slowly and painfully shed off it's materials into outer space and collapse into a white dwarf about the size of earth ...

for more stars more massive than the sun, their death comes in a more rather violent manner. a stupendous explosion called supernova..

so any living thing on earth by that time is roasted!!! grin

Naaah don't worry, 5billion years is enough time to get dead. so it's not happening any time soonwink..

to my generation alife till den, i neva meant to hurt u..

Asin eeeeehn e tire me... The god damn book was thinking the sun freaking orbited the earth and mentioned an orbit and dudes are trying to incorporate that crap to recent findings.

I wonder if the bible and Quran thumping religionists had a more impressive work like that of ancient Sumerian texts that accurately measured the orbit of Jupiter, we would have been hearing that shiit everyday.

like "the bible/quran measured the orbit of the jupiter 3500BC ago .. God is great" but alas they are all freaking out over this punny speculations.

Imagine if the bible or quran had an impressive scientific fact (measuring jupiters orbit) like a more ancient text (sumerian text) did

7.Dark spots

There are temporal phenomenon that appear to be very dark on the sun's photosphere in contrast to every other part of the sun. .

These dark spots are called Sun Spots.

And are caused by concentration of magnetic flux on that given region giving rise to decrease in temperature from every other point and so appears dark.

I've witnessed this with my naked eye.

Anything is possible in science. If we can land on the moon, we should be able to conquer the sun.

Some stars host planets while some don't... I doubt if Canis Majoris hosts any planet MAY have some smaller star(s) orbiting it though..

True. But it is easier to fly than change the biosphere and crust of an entire planet. We may have something like greenhouses out there, but not such drastic things as terraforming.

Terraforming is eons away. Pun intended. smiley

Good.Exactly no one knows and what if there are many other universe outside this universe we are in...just curious cheesy
At some point, earth was the centre of the universe, then we found we're just one of many planets orbiting the Sun. Now we know we're just one of many stellar systems orbiting around the centre of the milky way. We also now know that the milky way is one of many galaxies in a local cluster of galaxies, so it is not inconceivable that our universe may well be one from a cluster of parallel universes...although, this veers into the realm of speculation.

Actually, terraforming is not aeons away, it's just a couple of decades away. Terraforming is already possible with the technology we already have at our disposal. There are plans underway to start sending people to Mars in 20 years time. Beneath is a link to website that shows Elon Musk's(Elon Musk is the CEO of SpaceX, a company that launches rockets to space among other astronomy related things) plans of sending people to Mars and of course, terraforming Mars. It's a very long read, but you'll be hooked to the site.

just to satisfy my curiosity and I'm not science oriented by the way; if there's the speed of light and it's measurable, what then is the speed of darkness? Might sound dumb but u know, just a thought.

Of all the question i have seen here i love yours the most and please it is not a dumb question.

Darkness plainly speaking is the absence of light photons, and we all know know light travels at 2.9million meters/second. So if the source of light gets shut out it takes light that same amount of speed to completely disappear and darkness to engulf the vicinity just as light wanes at exact same speed and rate.

Even though directly speaking you can say there is nothing like speed of darkness but in practicality "Speed of darkness is equal to the speed it takes light to wane"

So you can say Light and Darkness have uniformed speed of 2.9million meters/second. .

Thanks boss
