You see, most people don't realize how medicine and surgery is until they experience it themselves....

My colleague mowah has told u just the academics that go with it, he didn't tell you anything about the responsibilities that flow with it....

Do you want to talk about the lectures (from 8am-6pm everyday, no break, sometimes some profs can hold lectures at 10pm, and you won't say crap) the practicals (during preclinical) and the ward rounds/clinics (during clinical)....

What of the crazy exams, answering 800 objective questions in 3hrs, then coming back that same day to answer all 17essay questions..... Even before that, you write exams nearly every month.....

During ward rounds, you are abused, castigated, told that you can never make it in life, you can never be a doctor, in front of your patient....

Medicine, to me, is the toughest course ever, then we could mention others later

Good lord smiley

bros forget this course about medicine being tough. yes it is demanding. some courses are boring ( neurology n embryology) but when u move to clinical esp after finishing peado. medicine makes alot sense there after

the most difficult part is getting into medicine cuz the competition is extremely stiff

the way I read for my jamb I didn't read that hard thru out med school.

medicine requires consistency In Reading and relaxing after every test or exams

wahali medicine is not a big deal
You read my mind

my friend! Shut the f*_ck up..what do you know?? You guys have been so brainwashed that you ascribe the term 'doctor' strictly to the physician..there is nothing the undergraduate medical student knows that the dental student doesn't! If you are in uniben and you think you know more, you can meet me up let's talk practical or clinicals now..i decided to ignore Sire Lagusta's post because there is no Dentistry and dental surgery in unilorin where he graduated from..

My post concerning medicine and surgery also applies to dentistry.....

sorry, what is the difference between pharmD and B. Pharm?
There iz no diff.they just do extra yr & add DR. to it,kind of inferiority complex.competing with physicians.

I'm sure it's because its a pharmD that is awarded and not a B.Pharm, abi??

Just asking tho
Am running a B. Pharm here in UNIPORT and I can tell you that there is no carry over here. The least pass mark is 50%, some courses have pass mark of 60%. Been a pharmacist is indeed God's say.
As a pharmacy student I do both medical science, physical and chemical science and I can tell you that the ones I find easier is medical science. The pharmacy profession serves as a link between the physical/chemical science and medical science.
Though, the medical science stuffs is easily grabbed I guess what makes it tougher for those in the field is the standard and the fact that its d most difficult to get in Universities(as a result of competition) makes it look tough.
A surgeon(also a pharmacist) once said to his son, if you can read Pharmacy, u can read medicine 3 times.

Lol..some folks just spew thrash on issues they know little or nothing about. Medical and dental students go through similar training and yes dental graduates are doctors too. Medicine and dentistry are monozygotic twins as far as medical school training is concerned.
Dentistry no b only 2 study Teeth & how to pull it out or them they study Nose join ni?

MEDICINE and SURGERY IS NOT WORTH THE STRESS
Do it ONLY if you love the work
IT won't make you exceptionally rich
You will be embarrassed, abused and insulted by the nurses, ur consultants , ur patients and ur colleagues
Your exams are always tripple barelled
theory, MCQ and viva
There is ALWAYS countermarking
You will forego a lot of good things and enjoyment
You will read throughout your whole life
The reading NEVER stops
Even getting a place for specialization is not easy
At the end they can take your license at anytime for wrong prescription or any mistake you make

It ain't worth it bro

Haha, oga. We are talking about the official thing here nah. My colleagues that gained admission in 2009 in UI graduated last year. So if you spent 8 years, blame strike, not medicine. And the strike affects all courses so even a Mathematics student can spend 6 years in Naija Uni. Stop making it look like Medicine is more than 6 years in duration. And after the six years nko, no be straight to money through internship, when others go dey search for job?
dat means u dnt have zeal for the course,it is the money u are after.

Medicine and surgery/dentistry is tough no doubt but other medical sciences are too. The stress is overwhelming but you guys try to make it appear as if other medical sciences are a child's play. Am in medlab,my routine is now like a programmed software waking up by 5 am when my roomates are still sleeping and coming back 6 Pm daily, leaving for night class and returning by 1,2am.. Most times 4hrs practicals 3 days a week from 2-6PM after lectures from morning to 2pm,not to talk of posting and the rest. Pharmacy students too here in Uniben are like ghosts, you hardly see them in their room. Probation, expulsion is very common from nursing, to pharmacy to medlab.. In conclusion any course in the medical field is stressful because you are going to deal with human lives so the training is in such a way to make you not just a graduate with paper result and license but a practitioner of your course..

But to be candid... Medicine no be beans

Frustrations come and go like phcn stunt

After reading like hell, u will still be like will I still spank?

Anyway, pharmacists do courses, and if they have an F in it, they just carry it over....

But in medicine, we do subjects, not courses, and if we fail one of the subjects, and fail again after resit, we REPEAT the class, and remember the pass mark is 50% and not 40%....

Dentistry is as tough as medicine, they are doctors too....

B.Pharm: bachelor degree in pharmacy, runs for 5yrs

Pharm.D: doctor of pharmacy, runs for 6yrs

It is believed that the pharmD is better than the B.Pharm, if a pharmacist can offer to clarify tho.....
And how many schools have obtained the approval to start running the "pharmD"?

Stegomiah:
To say medicine and surgery is the most difficult course is an understatement.
[s]
For starters, in 18months you will have to do biochemistry, anatomy and physiology with an additional course. The whole of it, when you think it's the same courses each one of it some takes 4-5 years to study

In 4 months you will have to finish the whole pharmacology text
What it takes pharmacy and pharmacology students 5 years [/s]

Another 4 months to finish the whole pathology text
Pathology is divided into morbid anatomy, chemical pathology, hematology and microbiology
Microbiology is divided into bacteriology, fungalogy, parasitology and virology
All these are specialties, people take years to students
The clinicals is mad, medicine, surgery, o&g, peadiatrics.....

It's only in medicine 24hrs ain't enuf
Medicine makes extraordinary students ordinary
Turns humans into beast
I had to revise 175detailed slides in 20mins and know everything in there
It frustrates you
The stress, calls, wardrounds, practicals, annoying lecturers, exam tension, thrills

You have to have high tolerance, discipline and endurance level to survive

The exams are not here, time always insufficient

Negative marking, am not sure other departments does that

Lectures 8am to 5pm, evening you dey clinic
You don't have your saturdays to you everytime

I don't know about your medical school, but mine is really crazy in here
So don't even try comparing medicine with any other course

Mind you the best of the best are in medicine, many headboys in ma set, state champions, national champions, yet some still get withdrawn, majority keep on struggling.
Medicine is depressing, sometimes not mentally owkay, schizophrenic...
Bullshıts

How well were you thought those courses?

I don't expect you to understand, only one that passes thru the process will

Did you pass through all others too for you to conclude that yours is most stressful?

If you so mad try to get admission to study medicine first, and not transfer aggression of not being able to secure an admission thus ridiculing how difficult medical school is

Without any shadow of doubt, medicine and surgery is one of the most difficult courses to study all over the globe. I was thinking naija factors was making it difficult for people in Nigeria, until I came to the United States and saw students studying like there is no tomorrow for their Medical College Admission Test (MCAT), just only to gain entry into Medical school. My very good friend who had left UNIBEN's school of medicine/surgery some years ago because he had a full scholarship in a US university, happened to have scored the highest PUTME score in his dept at the time(abt 89/100). Before he left UNIBEN in his 2nd year for the US, his GPA was about 4.94/5.00. To cut long story short, my guy completed his 4yrs premed in a prestigious US university with a CGPA of 3.97/4.00; prepared real hard for his first MCAT and passed all but Critical Analysis and Reasoning Skills (MCAT CARS), where he was just 2 points off to have met the needed requirement. Anyways, he went back to the drawing board, studied harder and knocked out almighty MCAT on his 2nd attempt and he's about kickstarting another rigorous 4yrs in medical school. This guy studies without break... Jeez.. (I dont think i can ever do that)

Conclusively, medicine and surgery is still one of the toughest courses in the world and would continue that way for eternity, simply because of the volume of books to study, tough exams to write, as well as the long duration it may take to become fully certified.
