ABUJA - The federal government has said that talks to reach a truce between it and the National Assembly on grey areas in the controversial 2016 budget were still on going and as such could not give a definite date to sign the approved copy from the legislature.

The government has instead set out the timetable for the submission got the 2017 budget, saying that the idea was to ensure early delivery of the document.



This came as the government also stated that there was no currency deal swap with the Chinese government.

The implication of the no-date-for-signing is that the hope of many Nigerians who were expectant that the 2016 budget would have been signed into law anytime soon had been dashed.



The decision for further negotiation with the federal lawmakers taken at the Federal Executive Council, FEC meeting which held on Wednesday at the presidential villa, Abuja presided over by president Mohammadu Buhari.

Briefing State House Correspondents at the end of the meeting, Minister of Budget and National Planning, Mr. Udo Udoma who were flanked by his colleagues in the Ministries of Petroleum Resources, Ine Kachikwu, Power, Housing and Works, Babatunde Fashola, Communication and Technology , Adebayo Shittu stated that ahead of the eventual signing of the fiscal document, the federal government has set up Monitoring and Evaluation mechanism to ensure that the budget was duly implementation.



Udoma also denied that the document was returned to the National Assembly for a fresh work on it.

I for one have given my friends convincing arguments why this while China deal is a poorly thought out one for our dear nation.

3 weeks gone in the month of april and we are still battling with the signing of the budget, I wonder when the APC/PMB led government will implement the so called "budget of CHANGE"...

After four months in the year 2016 we still do not have a clear direction of where this government is heading and yet they promised us "CHANGE"

Its over a year now since this government was voted in. All one hears are excuses, give us time, PDP destroyed for 16years, we are collecting looted funds, saboteurs won't allow us deliver...
Nigeria deserves better than this. The govt doesn't look coherent in speech and in action.
Buying fuel @200 naira per litre for cars and generators for over 2months, due to lack of foresight and sensible planning from an insensitive govt, is inconceivable.
We can't even take kachukwus words more serious than that of a psychotic. making endless useless promises and taking Nigerians for fools is a hobby to APC.

Dont sign the budget leave am there. When we enter 2017, you merge the two budgets together and send them to NASS. After all it took six months to name the saintly ministers.

It is taking a long time to sign the budget.

I guess the problem has a lot to do with the corrupt additives to the budget, and less to do with service delivery.

It is no longer business as usual. No more additions that do not make sense.

9 days from now, we'll be in the 5th month of the year. Yet the budget has not been signed. What rubbish is this? Does Mr. President even bother about the sufferings the people who voted him are passing through?
