I dunno how things got to this stage, but I'm sure lack of wisdom was exhibited somewhere... The way people are just ranting online, many won't even go if there's a physical protest, they'd just rant, incite people online, then those ones would go and get themselves expelled, while the rest would secretly fill form, return back to school, continue their online ranting and graduate....this thing should never have gotten to this stage..

No be today. I remember in 2000 or so when we had a protest about some transformers not working in the New Hall area. students actually stood the VC Jelili Omotola for hours in front of the transformer while the engineers fixed it. The NLC president, Adams Oshiomole came to campus for a rally about the same period and students threw all caution to the winds. School was shut down and this kinda form was filled before every student could return to classes.

It's really sad to see Nigerians supporting this move by the school management. This is a matter of infringement of my fundamental human rights, and you all see this as a nice move?

So we are meant to just sit and not complain when we are suffering, in a situation when a scholar gets an E grade when he knows he deserves an A, how do you suggest he fights for his right, who's gonna fight for students when the Union is scrapped?

We say no to this, we can't sell our birthright!

Someone had to do something to avert all the protests and violence affecting the school calendar

lmao since I entered unilag this is the first time students' protest is causing a halt in school activities and this is just the 2nd week. The only other time we had to stay at home was when the greedy lecturers went on their ASUU strike which lasted for 6 months.

and please when was it ever reported that anything violent happened in unilag to disrupt school activities.

don't say anything about something you know nothing about

I was lucky to attend Unilag during the four most peaceful period in the history of the school 2006-2010. Coincindentally there was no SUG during this period. Save for 3 months ASUU strike each in 2007 and 2009, there was no disruption in academic activities occassioned by student's restiveness. There was no SUG then and actually students were not bothered because there was no need for it. The school management did its best to make students comfortable and whenever they fell short, students just bear with them. There were periods during exam when therep is no light at night in the hostels and students who want to prepare for exams would take their books under the street lights to read. Whatever problem the school has is not a permanent problem. You have to dialogue with the management and give them time to look into it. They should proscribe SUG if that would bring back lasting peace in the school.

What do you do when you have tried to about 10 times in 6 months to have a dialogue with the management and the refuse to give you audience.

I concur with the forms the students have to fill.. It will keep them on check and make them realise , they are given admission into Unilag to read, learn and graduate as responsible and knowledgeable candidates required on various fields of career out here in the world.
If not ? Na parties every weekends, and clubbing..
Hence graduating and becoming a huge liability to our over populated country.
But with these rules and undertaking bn signed.. There heads go screw tight well.
They had better embrace it.. Its a wonderful way to go and rebrand unilag all over again.. Other tertiary schools , pls take note
.
If not ? Na the same garbage in.. Garbage out.
And companies will certainly not employ graduates that cant even defend anything, how much more assist and make a company grow... Honestly its really appalling .
Nigerian students sit up , study and learn the course u are admitted for.

No time to play or party or carry placards... Just focus and come out with honours that companies worldwide will beg to have u guyz on board..
To be successful is not easy.. Be serious and focused.
sad angry

when the learning environment is not conducive how do we learn. And protesting and playing doesn't stop anyone from graduating with honours

My brother history is a great teacher. History has always shown that in tertiary education in Nigeria, protests especially violent one, usually cause more woes and regret to the students in the end. There is never a limit to the amount of dialogue you can have otherwise you will burn your fingers. How many of us get everything we need from our parents at home? And the few who actually do are seen as over pampered. Do you go about throwing tantrums at your parents whenever they dnt provide you with what you need? My two pence o and nobody have to agree with me.

The protest was violent? How? And yes, if I ask my parents repeatedly to provide me with basic necessities, and they don't, I'll throw tantrums.

Lol... Feel pity for the students. I am happy that I left the school but not happy because I have many friends and family facing this hardship that they called education in Unilag.

Advanced secondary school

I see nothing wrong with it. Those are all the rules a normal person should follow without being told. Keyword here is "normal". Well, we all know there aren't too many normal people in Nigeria today though.

most of this our generation have this destructive instinct in them. of recent we've seen how students burnt and destroy facilities meant to be enjoyed by them. I'm still figuring how to live with this bunch in my generation. anyone found destroying should be jailed.

Ok ooo
At least there are some set of serious students who will study, learn and graduate with good degrees and honours in our " uncondusive environment".. As soon as they are done with service, its either companies retain them or within a year or two, they have a good paying job..
While some top companies will keep on employing graduates abroad that fits their bill.

Time, my dear is always our friend... And time is always there to remind us , how well and far weve gone.

Leave that one alone, he thinks he has written something, he doesn't know that he is a fool.... They should disband SUG.... who then will take up students rights? The fact that there was no issue like that in his time is his good fortune, as far as students are concerned they ought to stand up to any repressive administration.

Unfortunately, many of us have been conditioned to pray over every issues even the ones we should speak out on. This is the reason I have learnt to accept people for who they are. My set in school despite the so many challenges finished a little late and many are grateful for the experience. Each time I remember those experience, I smile.

This is not new. We had to fill these forms back then after the school was shut down in 2004 under similar circumstances. We even paid 10k sef. After we resumed and student union was banned, we experienced a lot of ill treatment from the school in general mostly from the school security beating students at will. Truth is, one of the ways of checking the excesses of the authorities is by having a union and the students too should employ better ways of resolving issues with the authorities cos at the end of the day, they are always on the receiving end. Even after the school was closed for about three months coupled with several federal strikes, I still ended up spending exactly four years in that school.
