This is the DUMBEST thread ever

BUHARI WAS HANDED THE MOST LOOTED ECONOMY

Buhari was not handed the fastest economy. IBOs will always lie. The economy handed over to Buhari had not sold oil for three months. 600 billion Naira was owed to fuel importers. Power generation companies had been sold to incompetents who had invested their working capital back in the election of the most stupid President Nigeria ever had.
The country was making less than 300 million USDollar before Jonathan left per month but was importing fuel and rice equal to 2 billion dollars.
Jonathan's had spent 16 billion dollars on security all looted by his generals with the always cowardly CIC just looking on.

There has always been blackout, it's seasonal and this time of the year is usually worse. It would get better when the rain picks up by June-July, stop feigning amnesia.

As for the campaigns, the last time I checked, APC campaigned for a 4 year tenure, they haven't even used up to 1 year. Meanwhile, the loudest mouths accusing APC of being unable to perform miracles in 11 months are actually the ones who supported the continuation of a PDP which spent 16 years and almost $25billion on power, yet we still have darkness. This act is a shameless mockery of the words 'hypocrisy' and 'confusion.'

Thought Buhari's body language fixed all the power issues last year?
Moreover, PDP in all it's ingloriousness never plunged Nigeria into a recession as APC is about to do. Oh i forgot, there is oil slump to blame. sad

The looted economy that was 22nd in the world from 92, that became the biggest in Africa & no. 1 foreign direct investment & fastest growing economy in Africa.

APC crashed all those.

Is Buhari not mad?

We are talking of the GDP 'growth rate' here, not the GDP. GEJ inherited a GDP growth rate of between 6-7% but as at handover, it had crashed to 2.3%.
www.nairaland.com/attachments/3644660_nigeriagdpgrowthannualforecast_png7bcd23fc337e90b7d2f7cee256a15425

Regarding the GDP, the value was only rebased (calculated) in 2013/2014 and found to be as high as over $500bn; that doesnt mean it actually leaped to that value overnight. The size of the GDP grew because of the telecommunications industry which was introduced as far back as 2001. That no record of the actual GDP size of Nigeria existed until 2013/2014, that does not mean the over $500bn was made in 2013/2014.

so what youre saying basically, was that the GDP growth rate was performing well under Jonathan's govt. It wasn't at all shaky or crumbling, no....not until May 29, 2015, when it suddenly crash-landed to ground 0, at the handover ceremony. Is this what you're trying to tell us.....??

The GDP is the most important indicator, and under GEJ we had an improvement from 170b billion$ 2009 to 460billion$ in 2012 before the economy was rebased..Mind u the GDP is
is an aggregate measure of total economic production for a country, GDP represents the market value of all goods and services produced by the economy during the period measured, including personal consumption, government purchases, private inventories, paid-in construction costs and the foreign trade balance (exports are added, imports are subtracted)...Investopia
..so it doe not depend solely on oil price like u want us to believe.... Under GEJ we had an average growth between 5% and 7% which is very good, because we were not coming out of recession...When u are coming out of recession the growth rate are usually high, that is why it was very high under OBJ....mind u the 2 highest GrowthRate were recorded under OBJ 8,2(2006) and GEJ 7,8(2010)...the bottom line baba needs to work hard world oil price is no excuse

The point I'm making is simple, the entire economic buoyancy Nigeria enjoyed under GEJ was just a function of the unprecedented high oil prices. The very moment oil prices began to crash, GDP growth rate dropped from the highs of 6-7% to a measly 2.3%, forex reserves droped by $10bn in barely 6 months, FG was forced to borrow to pay salaries, FG owed fuel importers their bill for almost a year (since August 2014), the value of the Naira nosedived from 160 to 220 in the parallel market etc. All these happened just when the oil price crash was still starting and as at then, oil even still sold above $60. I shouldnt be reminding you that oil prices subsequently dropped to below $30 early this year.

It is only ignoramuses that still think and argue that GEJ handed over a buoyant economy.

So you are wrong, the fact is that GEJ met a high GDP growth rate, was able to maintain it fairly through his reign BECAUSE oil prices were sky-high, but ended up crashing it to nothing before handing over the rotten economy to Buhari to take all the blame. Anything Buhari and his team can do to salvage this situation can only materialise after many years as long as oil prices remain rock-bottom; so it is pointless pointing fingers at Buhari as the one who crashed Nigeria. Jonathanians don't like the truth though, so I dont expect this to make any sense to them.

Stop deceiving yourself and arguing like a infant. What do you mean by "states like Osun, Benue and Imo?.. stop displaying little wisdom; up to 27 states received bailouts and the bulk of those states are actually PDP states. Even Benue state which you mentioned was run aground by a PDP governor before he handed over a debt ridden state where civil servants had not been paid for months. It is silly to accuse APC of taking a bailout to pay civil servants which the PDP government owed. I wouldn't even want to talk of the shame of Bayelsa state, an oil producing, 13% derivation receiving state which still owes its workers to date. I suppose in your own peculiar wisdom and intelligence, Bayelsa is also an APC state?

Tell me which APC state apart from Lagos that was not bailed out? Even the Oyo state man have started asking for more bail out.
And the money for the bail out was plucked from tree & not the $5 billion NLNG proceeds which was generated & saved under a PDP govt and was blown under an APC govt.

The question is, did the bailed-out PDP states not out number the APC states?... Even a PDP oil producing state like Bayelsa is asking for more bailout.

You say the bailout money was saved by PDP, of course PDP ruled Nigeria prior to the recession, was the bailout money supposed to have been saved by APGA or KOWA before?... What kind of kindergarten argument and reasoning is this? undecided

Finally you say the money was blown under APC; we are talking about money used to rescue civil servants in mismanaged states of which PDP states dominate the list, were you expecting the APC led FG to keep quiet and watch ordinary Nigerians suffer for no other reason than that they voted some PDP squanderers to manage their affairs?... what exactly is this mandela even yapping about? undecided

It could have been much better, we had all it took to blow far beyond this, but these potentials have been continuously wasted. At the end of the day, oil price crashes for a second and what do we get?... we are instantly back to the dungeon.

Fortunately for the PDP and unfortunately for APC, the oil crash and its consequent impact on the economy just coincides with the very moment they handed over to APC; hence knowing that most Nigerians are blockheads, they find it quite convenient to heap the blame on APC, and the blockheads happily swallow this deceit.

The same blockheads voted you dull master. Why don't show some respect to the blockheads?

What manner of ignorance is this?.... I just told you things were decelerating / nosediving when he handed over, do you know the meaning of the word 'nosedive'?

1. The degenerating GDP had already fallen to 2.3% (clearly not the fastest or even the first 15 in africa) as at the time GEJ handed over.

2. Investors were already packing their bags from early 2015 owing to the impending economic crisis. JP Morgan had already warned of its plan to expel Nigeria from its bond index as early as february 2015. After 2 devaluations, they wanted us to devalue more as at the time. They eventually left in october. Foreign investors dont go to a country which doesnt have money, no businessman takes his business to a place where there isnt money.

3. Nigeria's GDP growth rate had already nosedived to 2.3% as at the time of handover. After handover, it has even stopped falling. I'm sure you saw the GDP growth rate chart I posted on this thread earlier? Stop betraying your education.

4. Inflation was already rising as the Naira had fallen from 160-220 per dollar within a few months to handover.

5. Just recently, there was the FG approved the release of N350 billion to help revive abandoned projects and the dead construction industry. In the year 2015, less than N20billion was budgeted to the works ministry and the implication was that the construction industry died and thousands of workers were laid off. Oh yes, that happened right before GEJ handed over. So once again, stop disgracing yourself and spewing ignorance.

Blackout is an age long problem which has never been solved by any previous administration to date. Hopefully, something will be done about it soon. Fuel scarcity is also one of the negative fallouts of the oil price slump and forex scarcity.

And oh YES, Nigeria is a mono-product economy, you don't need to be a PhD scholar to understand the link between the crash in oil price and the negative economic situation in Nigeria today.

You are giving excuses for a failed leader.

Can Buhari resign and let's see if the situation will be the same?

Nigeria is not the only country affected by the slump in oil price. But Nigeria is arguably the only country whose leaders have thrown up their hands in the air in total surrender, only waiting for oil price to rebound.

If Buhari resigns now, so what happens next?

GEJ was given over 5 years and he handed over a rotten economy as at May 29th 2015 even though he enjoyed the best financial income than any other Nigerian leader. Whenever you Jonathanians want to make a comparison, you dubiously refer to the state of things in 2013/2014 when oil still sold upwards of $110; why dont you base your performance conparison on the situation of tgings in his last 8 months?

The amusing part of your hypocrisy is that even after giving GEJ over 5 years and watching him hand over rottenness, you were patient enough with him to allow a confirmed and reconfirmed failure, a further 4 years, but you think Buhari should resign after 11 months. grin

Just so you know, 90% of my comments here on the NL politics section is in RESPONSE to ignorant rants by Jonathanians who have wilfully inflicted themselves with selective amnesia by claiming that things were better with GEJ and that GEJ should have been a better leader even in this recession. Such an ignorant submission especially when you consider how badly things were managed by GEJ in his last 6 months when the oil slump started.

Seems like you are an unintelligent student. Firstly, even a partially blind primary one pupil can see from the chart that the gdp rate was involved in a downward acceleration from mid-2014 (supposedly when the oil prices began to drop) to the 2nd quarter of 2015. You are free to continue disgracing yourself by claiming buhari was responsible for that downward spiral.

Secondly, the the 2nd quarter of a year runs from April-June not July; stop disgracing yourself and embarrassing the people who toiled to send you to school. Data from the NBS show that the growth rate as at the 2nd quarter (being April-June) was 2.35%; but obviously in your peculiar wisdom, it was Buhari who presided over the last month of 2Q that was responsible for the 2.35%, infact buhari was even responsible for the steady downward nosedive of the gdp rate since mid-2014. You lads defending Jona are very 'intelligent.' tongue

These guys I talk about are simply the Jonathanians, primarily the ones of Igbo extraction who have unfortunately exhibited a total incapacity to get over the election loss of GEJ; even the Niger Delta has since gotten over it.

If there is any relief I would experience should buhari cease to be president, it will be the mental relief from encountering the endless daily wails and cringe inducing embarrassing vituperations by you jonathanians. I would also be releived to realise that 'maybe' we may have a return of sensible, mature and educative arguments on the website as it used to be prior to the days of Jonathan and his strange fanatical followings. Lastly, I would be most relieved seeing a possible end to the continuous ridicule a lot of Igbo jonathanians have subjected the Igbo race to since GEJ lost that election.
