Good thought!

Apart from the fraudulence involved, i dont think Christianity and Islam encourage such ways of making money.

Please ban them all.

You may have to add binary options as well. Let's keep the business section clear for real business which pays as a result of effort and hard work put in. Not all these kalo kalo gambling enterprises.

Dear Nairalanders,

We are thinking of completely banning the promotion of forex trading and sports betting on Nairaland.

Forex day-trading and sports betting are fundamentally fraudulent because they're promoted as a quick way of making money whereas due to mathematical facts, the only people who make money are the middlemen and marketers. The "investors" almost always lose their money.

In our experience, it's not enough to warn Nairaland members about the dangers of forex day-trading and sports betting. The promise of quick profit is just too much for thousands of vulnerable Nairaland members to resist. The only way to protect them is complete censorship.

We believe that the complete ban of such content will make Nairaland a better platform for discussing legitimate entrepreneurship and finance.

Seun in as much as I respect you as a person, I want to say this is just your thinking and opinion. If sport betting was fraudulent, I know EFCC would have spelt it out. There are lots of persons that makes money through sports betting day in day out and also forex trading.

I know this forum belongs to you, but I think you should have a re-think. Nobody is being forced to place bets or run forex.

If you ban forex and sports bet on nairaland,
can you also ban it out of Nigeria.

If your Family member is working for a Forex broker or Sports bet Company,
Would you ask him/her to resign because you hate Forex or sport betting?

I think ban won't work. Your competitors will just provide them a platform and continue to use the nairaland platform to recruit them.
I think, effort should be made to insist that they carry warning.
Lottery is a legal business and you are protected by the law if you permit it especially with the warning and other criteria you don't need to declare in order to keep away charlatans.

Frankly your point doesn't make any sense! Is sport betting or forex trading illegal ?? No not in any country in the world!
I think what we have here is an outright abuse of perceived influence because you think you have something against the said practices there by you want users to justify an action you have already clearly decided to make.
Now is the ban on sports betting and forex trading beneficial to your website users? No it's not!
Because your user base are not the major clients of sports betting and forex companies.
Infact I don't know anyone who has gotten good sports betting tips from your website.
Infact your website is so insignificant in the sports betting genre because I know for a fact that the major players don't advertise here as they do on other sites like Linda Ikeji and Bella naija.
If truly you care about nairaland users first take steps to curb the tribal hate and religious hate that your website actively encourages!
Don't come here and play the sympathetic cronner when in reality there's probably some other reason you want to ban these.
I guess maybe because they don't advertise with you?
Mr Seun take steps to curb hate posts that your website encourages these are doing more damage to the country than all the 100 naira my gate-man looses every weekend to bet9ja.

Dear Seun,

I think you have a long list of things to ban

1. Snake threads
2. Tiwa and Tbillz threads
3. Olosho threads
4. Tonto Dike threads
5. Ponzi Schemes

The list is endless. I believe we are adults here and can make rational discussions, so take note.

Its a welcome development @seun. It has been a proven fact that 95% of Nigerian youth while trying to find something to lay their hands on for steady income have one way or the other done forex and sport betting.

However, I look forward to all other platform of social media to follow suite because its addiction is killing our youths. We've seen cases on this platform where an undergraduate does sport betting with his tuition fee and end up biting his fingers due to massive loss.
