Why Dont We Igbos Appreciate Our Evergreen Musicians

It baffles me our we igbos have failed in celebrations of life, awards, events to appreciate the likes of

Chief Osita Osadebe
Bright Chimezie ( Duke of African Music)
Emeka Morocco Maduka
Chief Dr. Oliver Sunday Akanite (Oliver De Coque)
Oriental Brothers
Chief Pericoma Okoye

I stay in far away United States and I know how much goes out of my pocket heavily every weekend just so I can sit at some bar and listen to great songs like

Pericoma - upper Iweka

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kSlVVYQ6rkw

Bright Chimezie- Adfrican Style

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0vY3En7zMdQ

Osondi Owendi

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QiZozFgBoVw

Peoples Club

Mbiri Ka Mbiri

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=e0wxvntvTXI

goose pimples get all over me.

Its a different story back home as i rarely hear the songs of these great artist at events whenever in Nigeria compared to the South Westerners who cherish and treat the likes of King Sunny Ade and Chief Commander as Kings and gods

How many youths of nowadays can boast of turntable discs of these great artists
I have personally enforced on my kids to revere, cherish, appreciate and listen to these music at home and spread the knowledge and wisdom sayings in these songs wherever they are rather than these contemporary music that only preaches sex violence and women

These artist those days were gods and mouth pieces of the gods compared to our modern day Pastors and Imams

Lets do all that we can to spread the richness of Igbo highlife and traditional Nigerian music

is it by force undecided

Rex Lawson is the best of all time.................. Flavor made fortune out of Rex Lawson Ashawo song, yet he never acknowledge him or paid any tribute to the legend.
No copy right law in Nigeria.

OP you are wrong...

I play those songs always on YouTube.

And I also sing them loudly as well.

Cos of it, babes in my lodge call me old school.

Those songs are souk lifting songs.

Am sure my fellow igbos do sing it. Do your research well

Can't you just pass the message without comparing us with the ofes and their imams. I hate when Nwadiala speak like this. Well i take the message and leave the rest for you.

God bless you my brother for opening this thread.
I dont know why we youth of this generation choose to ignore our traditional music. Some said they use juju to sing, some said they dont glorify God.
But thats a pure lie. I have listened to oliver de coque and osita osadebe songs and if you listen to their lyrics you will find out that their songs is pure truth .
This people are naturally philosophers because they use their song to preach the truth. I listen to traditional music every day because they give me inspiration and truth about life
Re: Igbos Evergreen Musicians, Why Don't We Appreciate Them? by chyket(m): 9:11am On May 21, 2016
Most of these musicians you mentioned are dead and so its extremely difficult to keep recycling the songs except occasionally. Sunny Ade,Ebenezer Obey etc are still alive so they keep bringing out new songs and probably updating the old ones.
Human beings grow,so they need new songs. The songs of IK Dairo who is dead is not commonly played by Yoruba's except by the older generation who hold fond memories of his songs.Igbo's need to identify and encourage new upcoming highlife musicians to grow to the level of Osadebe etc.

But i wont cease to give u my graditude for inspiring into ur children abt their true origin despite living far away. even if they cant speak aleast they hear ,that will contribute to their greatness someday. i hav planned such for my coming children

the only thing you did wrong was enforcing it on your kids.

All my dad did was play the songs and preached to us about the quality of the songs for us to appreciate it.

It's wrong to enforce it on your kids. How about you constantly remind them about the awesomeness and messages in those songs
