Yeah I support that the money is within the economy and If an 'average Nigerian' will gain contract for supplies and the rest. Its a good idea.

To me I'm looking at government investing 400billion creating production companies of 1billion naira each of 400 units or 500million naira each of 800 companies in different categories of products to boost our export scattered all over the federation that will boost our non -oil exports, thereby creating hundreds of thousands of jobs and earning fx into our economy.

Lets imagine 400billion annually for 4yrs creating such and that will by far reduce importation to a very large extent.

Primary school students are not starving/hungry.

Nice Idea..

However, we are moving away from that place where the Government builds and operates businesses. History has shown us that it does not work. NNPC, Ajaokuta, NEPA, NITEL, e.t.c are all glaring examples of our Governments failure in this regard.

With an extra 400 Billion Niara running circles in our economy, we will need local businesses that will have to provide 400 billion Naira's worth of services so inadvertently, these industries will come. Imagine the One-Egg-Per-Child Program alone takes 100 Billion out of that 400 Billion Naira, that means we will need to have local farms producing 100 Billion naira worth of eggs per month. That means more Chickens.. Probably more than our local demand needs, therefore we will start exporting.

I am not an economist, but I know that Economics is not a straight science. I have a gut feeling that if this is genuinely implemented and monitored, it could be very good for us in the long run.

Excuse me, this is a WHITE ELEPHANT PROJECT.

Anyone that give birth to children let him bear the responsibility of feeding.

Let federal, state and local govt be sincere in performing their constitutional responsibilities and pay salaries as at when due.

Let this government have a straight financial policy that will encourage investors both within and without.

Let them fix electricity and encourage science and technology in providing some raw materials locally.

Let them do all these and finally withdraw 100% from education and see whether our children will go to school or not. Whether they will have 3 (balanced) square meal or not. Whether anyone will wait for F.G to house, clothe and feed his wards.

Lastly, I believe no one is indigent. Give them work, and an enabling environment to do it, you'll be dazed in a short while with the positive outcome you'll see.

Remember, a lazy man deserves no food. So don't come and tell me somebody has graduated and got no job. IT IS A LAME EXCUSE TO ME.

THANKS

My brother these are children we are talking about not men, they deserve to learn free from hunger, labs, hi tech or whatever facilities are placed in the school would be useless if the student lacks a primary need such as food and as such would pay little attention to those things and remember those who can afford to feed their children well have them in private schools and it would take a while before most Nigerians will get to that level .

This is a very welcome development because we are educationally backward not basically due to lack of infrastructure or conducive environment but because most went through school (of any level) just with the hope of avoiding hunger hence killing creativity.

Those criticizing this policy are just sadists, when has feeding poor little children become a crime for God's sake.

Sometimes as Nigerians, we feel very intelligent but we are not, we just criticize out of our biased minds.

Feeding is a personal thing, it can only make some people richer.

It might work well in the north to increase enrollment but not in the East, where you have almost 100% enrollment.

This is a northern culture.

Provide a good learning environment.

Make studying attractive to them through provision of the basic materials as it is obtained in the West , not food.

Pay the teachers very well to boost morale.

What?

Empower the parents, they will take good care of their children

This is not always the case. Even in countries where parents are mega empowered, it is not a guarantee that children will have decent balanced diet that will enhance their well being. That is why even in these advance countries, government still feed the children in public schools.

This is also a UN/UNICEF backed program under the United Nations World Feeding Program - https://www.wfp.org/school-meals

My own take: it's OK we argue for or against such Programme but then with or without ideology party/government do have different approach to issue, so I think it is their own conviction to tackle malnutrition, unemployment, out of school children, wealth creation etc using such means. it however doesn't show that the government lack idea or is confused because even if they go the other way it has it own disadvantages.

Bros,

1. Both are and serve different purpose
2. The feeding program is targetted at pry 1-3 for starters. This is the formative years where kids need to feed well to be able to develop a learning capacity from well nourished diet
3. The government has stated that there are some free tuition programs, especially for science and technical courses

Bros,

It's been proven over time that government overt involvement in business has been a near, if not a, disaster. 400 production companies will run aground pretty fast. MKO once said "government should have no business in business".

Truth is primary school student are pretty hungry. You need to leave your comfort zone and go streetward to see that in many families they can hardly boast of 3meals a day.

- 93 billion naira is far less than what Dansuki alone was sharing among his cohorts. Anything wrong in Govt giving directly to the citizen where there will be no bogus contracts and rip off?
- There is an adage that says when you remove hunger from the poverty equation, the problem is half solved.
- Health is wealth. With children eating good food, their visits to hospitals due to various disease will reduce.
- This is a social benefit initiative by the Government to help her citizens some of whom are extremely poor.
- This will help school enrollment as this is one other incentive that will make school attractive to kids and in effect aid their learning.
- There are other aspects of the 2016 budget that deals with capital projects which includes equipping and furnishing public schools.
- Many have complained about how citizens of some countries are benefiting from social welfare package by their Govt, while there is none for Nigerians. What is wrong in Nigeria helping her poor citizens to feed kids who are in Primary 1 to 3?
- It is a token, but it will go a long way in alleviating poverty of some citizens.
- With the high price of fuel / subsidy removal due to fraud in the system and non availability of forex, consider this as a palliative to cushion the effects of the hike
- This initiative will create a snowball effect whereby farmers, food sellers, kitchen utensil suppliers etc will benefit, in an organised fashion.

Olodo rabata!

You are part of the problem not the solution!
In these hard times times, public funds should be put to the most judicious use and not to sponsoring stomach infrastructure to garner cheap popularity!

We are well aware of the ailing state of infrastructure in the educational sector. Decrepit classrooms, leaking roofs, empty libraries , etc. Should chairs and tables not first be provided to students who come to school and sit on the floor or free text books provided for them to study with or even free laptops instead of this white elephant project of feeding? Why does this government keep seeking ways to deceive the masses??

Sentimental judgement? NO!

Just that many of us are too scared of facing the reality of life and therefore take advantage of vulnerability of children to score some points.

many of you are driving me towards emotional point of view and far from honest judgemental view of the programme.

All I'm asking for from the government is a level playing ground for all. Let them ensure that the basic social amenities were available and accessible. Let all sector of economy be functional.

Let them create an environment where boko haram will not come and bomb the children in the school while feeding them or NDA creating problem and crying victim at the same time.

Let them face the core of our problem in this country and avoid excess luggage of feeding 20 million school children.

If some of these issues were fixed, Then we can separate between lazy parents and irresponsible parents and we can now determine the real people that the program is beneficial to.

Let us stop generalising it.

Balanced diet for 20,000,000 school children is ridiculous and unrealistic especially in an economy where Naira is officially devaluated.

This program is obviously politically motivated and not merit based and its a certified D O A.

QUOTE MY WORDS IN DECEMBER AFTER THE DEMISE OF THE PROGRAM.

Let us stop asking for crumbs. Crumbs are for dogs not the children.

I'm not a sadist I only know exactly what I want and not ready to settle for less. Thanks
