Nigeria To Shift Crude Oil Drilling From Troubled Niger Delta To Lake Chad

Nigeria will soon start drilling crude oil in Lake Chad Basin region in what is supposed to boost the country’s output.

The resolution was reached after efforts to placate militant groups in Niger Delta failed.

The exploitation of oil outside the traditional crude oil stronghold is to plug the hole created by destruction of oil and gas infrastructure by the militant groups.

Oil drilling in the Delta, Rivers and Bayelsa states have largely been disrupted by insecurity in the areas bringing down the daily production to one million barrels from 2.2 million barrels.

The ministers of state for petroleum, Dr. Ibe Kachikwu, on Friday confirmed oil drilling in the Chad Basin saying it will start in the last quarter of this year.

Chad Basin is located in the northeast where activities of Boko Haram have been countered significantly.

“The decision to diversify our business portfolio is about all of us and about the future of our dear country, the vision is clear, and we are determined not to fail,” Dr Kachikwu said.

The oil field already mapped out and secured covers 3,350 square kilometres.

The production from the well would help achieve the daily target of 2.5 million barrels.

Niger delta pray your matter does not end up like the man that thought he was the only flutist in town. He decided to feign death only for him to find out that a flutist came to entertain the people at his supposed burial. Lagos don dey explore, lake chad is about to, be careful so as not to lose the seat of the beaitiful bride because of pride. You can settle things amicably rather than destroy your land.

I can't believe some people are celebrating this nonsense. Who in his right sense will want to go to boko haram compound in the name of drilling oil. Is buhari that stupidd. Jihad war doesn't end. They will still strike again and again. If it's a drug cartel or oil militant they have human sympathy. But jihad militant? If they catch you in close range they will butcher you into minced meat. If they like let them find Saudi Arabia in lake Chad, na wash.

Good development. Republics of Chad and Niger are drilling from their sides of the basin, why not Nigeria?

Nigeria can employ Directional Drilling, set up flow stations and pipe the crude to Warri Refinery in the spirit of one Nigeria grin grin If the gravity can't sustain pressure for long journey let them know there's always compressor stations to be constructed too.

We de here.

Good news for the niger-delta. With less exploration, The land can then begin to heal and become a world class tourist destination it was destined to be rather than a giant oil well.

No more our oyel.

The niger-deltans will still use that their oyel to soak garri, just wait and see.

Meanwhile, they have just been rendered dormant and unfortunately for them their environment has been ruined. No farming, no fishing. Thanks to MEND, NIGER-DELTA AVENGERS and Co.

This is the most foolish news ive read since the beginning of the year.

When making news about areas you have no competence, at least get input from the professionals.

Nigeria to leave Niger delta oil and start drilling oil in the NE? You don't drill oil, you drill oil wells and produce oil.

You should first of all wait for an announcement of a find. An estimated reserve before speculations. Oil is an asset, and countries try to add more reserves, not abandon one for another. Being a new find (If commercial), a 100,000 barrels of oil/day will be a good output from the field for a start.

The Niger delta gives above 1,500,000 million barrels of oil a day.

I am aware Kachikwu made an announcement for us to expect something, When exploration is completed, there should be a breakdown of the estimated find, to know the commercial viability. That is only when we can start making speculations.

I end to say that if Niger deltan oil is left, the assets is still in the ground. The oil is still there to be tapped when we can better manage the resources. This news is an attempt by a novice to whip up sentiments.
