Yes, stop sending "Hi, Hello, Hey, How are you, how are you doing, how is the weekend, how far" and other similar texts and waiting for response. Those messages are boring, repetitive and indicate you are incapable of leading a interesting conversation. I mean seriously this is some of the laziest ways to get someone 's attention on social media like Whatsapp or FaceBook. You shouldn't even expect a better reply than "Hey" or "Fine" of you if Hi or How are you kind of message is all you can type and send. And that is if you even get a response. People receive numerous of these kind of opening messages daily, it doesn't grab their attention after a while, it become tiresome to read them or reply them because no one want to keep typing "fine" or "fine, and you?"

On my end I was guilty of these kinds of opening messages, but I began to find it repetitive, it felt like asking the same question whenever I met the same person. If I have something to say to a pal online, I cut right to it immediately after typing "Hi", e.g "Hi, can you recommend a movie for me?" or "Hi, passed all your exams?". No more do I send "Hi" and wait for a reply. If you don't have anything to say aside "Hi", don't text at all.

This applies to men and women. Personally, I notice most women don't even like receiving "Hi or How are you?" from men, although some text us(men) the same crap when they are probably bored and need a man to just pass time chatting with. Then they expect you to take over and drive the chat, making their day.

Yes, even when you try to bring up something to interesting to discuss, they give you short, vague responses that do not answer your question.

There should be something that attract or interest you in the person or something leading you to add them. You can start your conversation on that.
