Oluwabusobomi:
Nigeria legend Keshi buried devoid of promised fanfare

Former Nigeria skipper and coach Stephen Keshi has been laid to rest in his village of Ilah, southern Nigeria, Friday afternoon, but without the fanfare promised by the country's government.

Keshi, 54, died on June 8 in Benin City.

However, it was not the state funeral that the Nigerian government first promised with oil-rich Delta State and Keshi's family organising his final passage beginning with a number of events on Thursday.

Nigerian sports minister Solomon Dalung said the government chose a low-key funeral because Keshi left behind a family that has to be catered for.

"I am not shocked by the way the government has treated this event," said a disappointed ex-Nigeria captain and teammate of Keshi, Austin Eguavoen.

"For instance, most of us have yet to get the houses the government promised us when we won the Nations Cup in 1994.
"You are only energised when you have been looked after.

"You now wonder if Nigeria is worth fighting for or even dying for."

Keshi's son Femi blasted the government for failing to honour a promise of a state funeral for his father.

"The federal government did not deliver on the promises they made to us as regards our father's burial," he said.

Keshi made history in 2013, when he became only the second man after Mahmoud El Gohary of Egypt to win the Africa Cup of Nations both as a player and a coach.

'Big Boss' will also be remembered as the man who spared off the exodus of Nigerian players to Belgium in the mid-80s when he signed for Anderlecht.

Nigerians can be funny. This is a country that nothing functions. And when i say nothing, i mean absolutely nada and for some reason they expect this one thing, a burial in this case, to go smoothly. Are these guy living in Nigeria at all? Or am I the only one sane? It is like it is a surprise to them that the country is jacked the phuck up. What is wrong with these people? If i may quote the literary genius, cococandy grin; What do you expect when the number of s.tupid people outnumber normal people in a country? Newsflash people; you should and must always expect chaos. I know i do.

Without any aorta of tribalism, was GEJ in the desert when Rashid Yekinni died, cant we always think like humans with robust memory, Na wa oo for this our hen brain generation whose succour to vent gibberish is to sit and type shit.

May God give Keshi's family the strength to bear the loss of an iroko in their family.

How could Oliseh make such a statement? The Federal govt may have failed you but your service was to the nation not the government!

I don't get the sense of entitlement these guys have sometimes... even when we play 5 a side here or a full 11-11 game we play our hearts out. Not because of the hope of cars or houses or acknowledgement but simply for the love of the game.

Why can't you just play the game and be grateful for the opportunity to have represented Nigeria?

Hahahaha! You are trying to force patriotism. No you cannot.

what contribution did the boys he coached to glory make.many of them strive to make it to stardom through the national team amd wen they get there they never give back to their community let alone the nation.
we all knw that there was once a govt in nigeria,y now blame the govt for her responsiveness or otherwise?.
come to look at things (imo) late keshi(mhsrip) worked for his country and in a contractual capacity and is being paid the same way he was contracted by togo, waiting on the govt for burial right is only discretional and not obligatory otherwise so be it in future case of death of any team member or player of the super eagles.
As a matter of fact,i doubt a football body that is not bouyant enough to sponsor its team to a glorious event like the olympics will contribute meaningfully to keshi's burial other than accrue more motuary expenses to the family of the deceased.
The family of late stephen keshi is good enough to bury their son and they have done just that, lets all pray for the repose of the soul of the deceased and leave the govt out of this.
FAREWELL SKIPPO.
Bless you sire!... I'm happy we still have people that think outside the box, Keshi had a paid employment with the Nff, he didn't do the job for charity.
And he protested when he didn't get paid, even in his playing days, just like any other government employee would. By did way he didn't die for Nigeria, he died of heart attack not while on National duty.
The only people that die for Nigeria in my opinion are the law enforcement agents : police, army etc who are not permitted to protest any unpaid salaries yet put their lives on the line to protect the country. Demanding a state funeral for Keshi in this economic hard times is just unfair.

The hard truth is, do not expect anything from anybody. 2. Do not expect anything at all from any government state or federal. 3. Do not think of thinking to expect anything from Nigeria government. If their help comes naturally and spontaneous, then good. Buh if not, do not expect anything from them!

Buhari is the worse thing that has ever happened to Nigeria, we should all cry in one voice to the Almighty God to remove that useless thing from Nigerian seat of power.

He has destroyed almost every institution in Nigeria except his own family and Zahara his daughter's welfare.undecided

To die for Nigeria is to die in vain.

Even the masters of Nigeria do not want to die in Nigeria.

Time shall come when the new trend will be to be buried abroad.
