I'm not sure if you plan on dignifying Tobi's mum with a name, but i think a name would be more ideal instead of using 'his mum' in every occasion, moreover, the story isn't just about Tobi, i suppose?

Secondly, Jo greeted Tobi's mother, she didn't answer her greetings, instead she smiled at Jo and invited her to the dining straightaway.

However, Jo followed the her to dining only to turn down the invite on the guise of being in a hurry. She could've done that whilst in the sitting room, i suppose.

Not every writer likes criticism, but if you're cool with it, i can point out other mistakes.
