This is a very strange debate tbh. How does living anywhere in the world increase an individual's leadership abilities?? The issue with Nigerian leaders is not that they don't know how to fix our problems, it's that, they lack the moral resolve to do the right thing, which I think stems from their greed and selfishness. Living in the " first world" doesn't teach you honesty, fortitude, and all the other good leadership qualities. The average Nigerian is well traveled we have seen how things work but we still come home to flaunt the rules we obeyed while abroad e.g traffic laws, refuse dumping, water wastage, etc. Abeg let me shut up joor

the way he referred to his country as "that country", simply because he lives in a white man"s land where he will always be viewed as a second class citizen shows the disconnect already, with the so called exposure if he can reason this way, then I wonder what the lack of exposure would have done to his brain?, common sense is not really common, ozuo fellow, if exposure is what guarantees good leadership skills, then all the citizens of developed countries should be leaders

Nigerians abroad are more exposed but there is no correlation between that and good leadership. Eg.

1. Nigeria organizations abroad do not fare any better than the ones in Nigeria. The same cases of embezzlement, nepotism, prebendalism and other vices still exist. In other words, you can take a Nigerian out of Nigeria but you cannot(or dare not) Nigeria out of a Nigerian.

2. Former governor of Enugu Dr. Nnamani state lived in US for many years. In his 8 years of governorship, Enugu was in shambles until a homeboy Barr. Chime came in and transformed Enugu to its glory. The same goes for Okwadike (a Havard-trained economist). His tenure was the worst in the history of Anambra state. Not until another homeboy Dr. Ngige came in did Anambra state have some semblance of development.

I believe that living abroad is overrated. It is not as if Nigerians abroad contribute in the decision-making processes that transform their new homes. How many Nigerians are the governors, mayors or even councillors abroad? Most of them only know the ways to work and Moneygram/Western union outlets.

There you have it.

Nigerians should relax joor. Most of those guys abroad have more exposure than us even if it does not directly translate to good leadership skills. How do you compare someone who has lived in say Abuja or Lagos to someone sho has lived all his/her life in London, Berlin, Madrid etc? Places where things actually work, where the people are sane? Its not fair to compare a Nigerian born and bred here to a Nigerian born andbred abroad?

Can't y'all just get along?

Always playing the devils advocate when you and i know that the average Nigerian does not think with all his/her faculties. All your years in. . . . .where have you ever seen a suspect summarily executed in the streets with the citizens chanting in support? That alone should tell you the kind of people who live in Nigeria are. How do you expect me not to think that i am better than someone who thinks like an animal? How do you expect me not to think that i am better that someone who thinks that giving policemen bribes on a daily basis is normal? The truth is majority of Nigerians in Nigeria generally don't think like regular people. They bury their heads in the sand to avoid the truth and deliberately lie to themselves hence the society they have created for themselves. They think it's bad now, they have no clue it's about to get worse for them.

Ignorance
Which people wash dead bodies?

I don't support the notion that Nigerians in diaspora are better qualified for Governance, but I certainly know that the are more exposed to better facilities and services....

Whether being exposed is directly proportional to good governance can't be given a logical conclusion Now without a proper research.

Bro, the notion that most Nigerians in diaspora are suffering is a total fallacy to the best of my knowledge...

Anyways, depending on the COUNTRY the are in, but for countries like Australia, USA, Sweden, Germany, England, Canada - Majority of Nigerians here are doing very well.

This is exactly what I'm saying!!!!!
But we can't actually conclude that Exposure will lead to Good Governance.
It is subjective NOT objective.
Saraki is a Citizen of England to be the best of my knowledge, is he a good leader ?
Kemi Adeosun spent a reasonable amount of time in UK, is she a good Minister of Finance ?

Having lived both in and out of Nigeria (currently living in Nigeria), I do believe that people who have lived outside Nigeria in developed countries, if they have bothered to actually learn from their environment, do have something valuable to contribute, if able to sincerely contribute to governance here.

Firstly, the average person living (legally) in a developed country is miles better off than his Nigerian counterpart. Fact. Even if one is doing what we in Nigeria stupidly term "menial" jobs with our skewed social standards. I think the key factor to be taken into consideration here is opportunities. One could be working on a chicken farm, or flipping burgers in MacD, or working security at Asda this year. That might not be true the next year. Or the next. There is social mobility. Sadly, in Nigeria, if you are riding an okada, or doing "boy-boy" or any other of the occupations we look down on, you are most likely to be doing that for a very long portion of your life. Fact.

The fact does remain that a lot of people in Nigeria are accepting of some of the conditions we live in because they really don't know any better. They might know viscerally that government has a social function, for example, but are happy to overlook the abysmal public health facilities, while someone who benefits from NHS facilities may not feel the same way. They might not realise the importance of having emergency services and an emergency number, while someone who has the 911 number at the back of his mind constantly will find it abnormal that such a service does not exist in virtually all of Nigeria. We might be able to ignore the almost total absence of parks and green areas in our urban centres, but for someone who looks forward to summer so he can come down from his cramped flat to sun himself from time to time, this might be too much to bear.

On the other hand, I have seen quite a lot of Nigerians abroad who are just existing in their new countries abroad, and not actually living life to the fullest there. Endless cycle of work, work, work, sleep on day off, attend events from time to time, and then continue. These types of persons might not be the best imports we may need to have here, from this standpoint. I have met people in London, for example, who haven't got any idea of what is happening in the rest of the UK, haven't been to Scotland or Wales or NI, rarely leave the metropolis and can't find their way to some of the notable sites in the city, simply out of disinterest.

But in today's world, where information is cheap and virtually free, can a Nigerian leader who has been domiciled in Nigeria all his life really claim that he's got no idea that NIPOST needs to be more efficient, for example, so that e-commerce may be enabled to flourish? Can they really claim that they don't understand that cleaning up the legal system and making it more efficient and effective would do wonders for business and daily life in this country? So obodo oyibo exposure is good, yes, but one can learn a lot of the things needed to be known to take Nigeria to the next level and beyond from your home in Nigeria, if you really want to do so, without necessarily living them abroad.

What can I say?

When someone believes a child is a witch and deserves to be starved to death (plus other chill-inducing stories like that), do I have a moral right to tell another right-thinking individual not to feel superior to them?

These things are the natural consequences of a long history of animalistic behavior that our people have refused to let go of.

I'll be watching from the sidelines. cool
