People are angry with Oshiomohole because despite the fact that the FG caused inflation to increase from 9percent to a staggering 17percent, he as a state governor did not help us reduce this burden with his high and multiple taxation, lack of jobs, closing down of Edo line and other small industries and laying off their staff, dissolving pensions board thereby killing pensioners with hunger in this harsh economy, stealing LG funds thereby not paying her staff for btw 15 - 18months, not adding any structure to Ambrose Alli University, yet used states funds to build a private university in his home town that charges as much as 700,000 as school fees, using 'Oshiomohole police' to harass motorist, making a known thug 'Kabaka' and co billionaire which he openly declare a reward for being a violent person, building schools without sit and teachers, the list is endless and the anger against Oshiomohole is palpable.

You are the one who introduced the word "landslide" into this discussion. I used the word "preferred". Again I also said that apc was more popular two years ago, not today. I would be shocked if you disputed this. During the presidential election, apc's popularity was at an all-time high level. You would agree with me that it is a contrast of that today.

As for sentimental popularity, you are correct. So it is throughout the nation. Voters seldom vote for rational reasons. Buhari in Aso Rock, Wike in Rivers, Fayose in Ekiti, Aregbe in Osun....to name just a few. Yakubu's choice as running mate for Iyamu bolstered their chances remarkably because the Yakubu of a guy is popular where he comes from. You cannot say this of Shuaibu....forget about about his boss, Obaseki. A time when the party has drained in popularity isn't a time to come
up with candidates of little charisma. The decision was a blunder!

I hope they do not regret it. Although it looks increasingly likely that they will.

I perfectly understand you. Truth is Oshiomhole outclassed his predecessor in infrastructure. But the grouse against him have bothered on multiple taxation, hike in tax rates, introduction of new forms of taxes, employment scam, and foremost of all the imposition of Obaseki as his successor. I cannot deny the fact that Oshiomhole is very popular in Edo still. If he was the one contesting, he would have won by a large margin, unfortunately he isn't.

Edo loves Oshiomhole for his great works, but not apc as a party. Results from the last presidential elections showed that Edo voters preferred pdp to apc. So you see where I am coming from. Edo people vote personality and not party. Oshiomhole should be blamed if Obaseki loses at the polls. He, Obaseki, does not command followership, Edo people do not want this. The Lagos model started by Tinubu has paid well for Lagos.
Talking about taxation, if a state lacks sufficient revenue generation to boost development what else should the govt do, sit down and laments while the tenure ends uneventful?
There's general lack of awareness of the workings of govt in Edo and people want things to happen but without their efforts, thats wishful thinking.
I was born, raised and educated in Benin hence, I know how the average person there thinks. If the POI wins the days of Adedibu in Oyo or Oshun state will resurrect in Benin. POI is the tool for Igbinedion to pocket Edo.

The whole atmosphere was not appealing to me at all. People selling their votes for as little as 2k was just so annoying. I left immediately I manage to cast my vote.

I'm so ashamed after witnessing what is going on right now in my polling unit and also all the calls I have made has confirm so far that APC mostly are giving out 2 - 3k each and as of now when I tune in to radio listening to more than 5 radio station and all the callers mostly from Edo south are reporting of Money inducement from ruling party. Just too bad.
