Keep mute ,this oba is the 39 Oba and the 70th king counting from Ogiso era. If Oduduwa is actually the progenitor of the Yoruba race it simply means the yorubas came into being after the 31st ogiso reign in Benin . Does that make sense to you? People were already in Uhe (ile IFE) before oduduwa migrated from Benin and conquered the people who started seeing him as God being that he was very powerful and a son of ogiso (king of the sky) . That was why some believed he came from the sky because he told them he is the son of ogiso(king of the sky) which is the name of Benin kings then before the oba era. The yorubas should learn from common sense and stop distorting history just to claim supremacy. We know our history, we have never and will never allow an alien to rule us . Even when we were conquered and the British wanted to make obaseki the Obanla we all rejected him because his family is an alien to the throne . Despite the pressure, we stood our ground till our Crown prince was made the oba . Anyhow Benin person cannot rule Benin let alone a stranger. If oduduwa was not from Benin , there would have been no way we would have asked him to give us a son to rule us . Why should we reject our son who wanted to become a king and decided to go for a total stranger ? Does that make sense to you ? Think man , think .

Africans colonizing africans with fables and myths.

Era of ethnic expansion with fable and myth is over!

Bayajidda had bastard children_Banza Bokwe_ Hausa conquered all the assumed bastard children.

Oduduwa too want to get for himself bastard children_I don't think Edo people will agree to be that bastard offspring

of a Mecca mendicant so Yoruba should stop the claim.

I commend your frankness. Yes it has always and still remain the first born son of the reigning Oba that succeeds him. Previously the Crown Prince and his reigning father never see eye to eye else there will be disaster. That means immediately the Crown Prince, who happen to be firstborn son is born, he taken outside the palace or Benin city and schooled in the art of Benin mysteries. The journey to the throne starts from birth. It is only in time of recently deceased Oba Erediauwa that tradition was a bit reformed so that crown prince which means "Okoro" in Bini language can now see his father. I don't know if it will be reverted because it is a general consensus that the incoming Oba is more traditional though also more westernised than his late dad.
Secondly, there was no break in lineage. Oba Ovonranmwen's blood son succeeded him and became Oba Eweka II from 1914-1933. Remember, another Oba can't reign while the incumbent still lives. Though the British wanted Obaseki that is the great-grand father of newly elected Edo State governor to become king, but the binis refused on the ground that the Obaship is hereditary and only the first son can be Oba as against the British thought that it was any binis. However the British would not bulge. They presented options to the binis: have your Obaship back but give up ur territorial claims to ur vassal states like Lagos, Warri and the likes. Or have the claims but give up the obaship/monarchy. These are well documented facts in both Benin and Brutus histories.
The binis faced with a hard choice had to go for the restoration of the monarchy. That why Bini is now small in size compared to its original size as a sprawling empire. The British ensured that the binis were properly decimated never to rise again just same way Rome did to Carthage if you are a student of history. Also co-opting Benin into this force and false union Nigeria really was disastrous for a once great empire that stretched upto Benin Republic. Well that is history. Nevertheless, the son of Oba Ovonranmwen became Oba Eweka II when it was already confirmed that Ovonranmwen died in 1914.

However this is the first coronation I am experiencing since I landed on earth..due to historical relationship with Europeans and also based on the Crown prince's influence as two times ambassador first to Uganda and then to Italy, many European personalities as well as envoy from British Queen will grace the coronation...even Cnn and BBC can't afford to miss out...I'm proud to be a Bini man.

Are you guys aware that Late Ooni Adesoji Aderemi was the Governor General of the old western region which included the whole of southwest and the old Bendel State? The choice and preference of Ooni to the likes of Oba of Benin, Alaafin of Oyo & Olowu of Owu says it all, and you guys should not create false history.

The truth that you guys hate to hear and try to suppress is that: OBA OF BENIN IS ONE OF THE SEVEN GRANDSONS OF ODUDUWA WHOSE ONLY SON WAS OKANBI.
that was a political move made by awolowo.

Oba Gha to kpere Ise!
Thanks sir.

Since the imperial time of 1440, it has again been by male premogeniture. First male automatically. The line was not broken in that even when a first son did not have an heir, his brother succeeded him. Oba Ovonramwen remained Oba even in exile from 1897 to 1914, though the British tried to install a stooge while Oba was in Calabar exile. Just the idea alone was roundly condemned by Benin people as a sacrilege. In fact nobody was even silly enough to dare come forward. The British quickly and quietly shelved it.
Upon his demise in 1914, his first son became Oba Eweka I I. He rebuilt the ancient palace destroyed by the British in 1897, though only now about one-quarter the of the size of the one destroyed.

That Eweka I I title was poignant because he came to rebuild the monarchy akin to how Eweka I rebuilt the monarchy after end of Ogiso era. Eweka II began the 4th phase of Benin monarchy called the Post Imperial era.

First was the Ogiso, Oramiyan/post Ogiso and the Imperial eras.

Upon coronation, the current crown prince will be the 70th monarch beginning from Ogiso, spanning about 2000 years of history.
