ChukwuIbrahim: Why do you bother to argue with tribal bigots? Benin people know their history. No modern political arrangement or influence in the current Nigerian cacophonous entity can even make a dent on it. Benin won wars upon wars in imperial times. Having lost to the British in 1897 Benin accepted defeat like gallant warriors. That the previously vanquished & colonized people would want to wipe out nagging feelings of inferiority & try to rewrite history was expected by Benin. But Benin people are not bothered. Empire was given up in 1914 in order to restore the monarchy, as the British demanded. In line with that agreement, Benin is committed to refraining from claims to those previous territories, vassal lands & colonies. But any official provocative comments or announcements by senior figures from any tribe will be confidently dissected with clarity and confined to the dustbin by Benin people & historians. I'm getting a bit confused, it seems most people here from Benin do not know their real origin. The Oba of Benin was originally one of the seven sons of Oduduwa who's the progenitor of the Yoruba race. Is it that many people on this thread who claim to be from there are not educated in history or did their hostory teacher die? 5 Likes |

kreamstaff: Keep mute ,this oba is the 39 Oba and the 70th king counting from Ogiso era. If Oduduwa is actually the progenitor of the Yoruba race it simply means the yorubas came into being after the 31st ogiso reign in Benin . Does that make sense to you? People were already in Uhe (ile IFE) before oduduwa migrated from Benin and conquered the people who started seeing him as God being that he was very powerful and a son of ogiso (king of the sky) . That was why some believed he came from the sky because he told them he is the son of ogiso(king of the sky) which is the name of Benin kings then before the oba era. The yorubas should learn from common sense and stop distorting history just to claim supremacy. We know our history, we have never and will never allow an alien to rule us . Even when we were conquered and the British wanted to make obaseki the Obanla we all rejected him because his family is an alien to the throne . Despite the pressure, we stood our ground till our Crown prince was made the oba . Anyhow Benin person cannot rule Benin let alone a stranger. If oduduwa was not from Benin , there would have been no way we would have asked him to give us a son to rule us . Why should we reject our son who wanted to become a king and decided to go for a total stranger ? Does that make sense to you ? Think man , think . 11 Likes 2 Shares |

]get your stinking self of this thread. A clown like you that replaces history with silly myths don't deserve answer but for the benefit of ur fellow dimwats I will open up a little. From verifiable history, Benin Kings were once referred to as the Ogisos meaning KING OF THE SKY, this was long before Ekalerderhan or Oduduwa's Grandfather, they were a proud and prosperous kingdom. Ekalerderhan was the son of an Ogiso banished from the kingdom who on trying to introduce himself to a people who could not understand him but were awed by his presence must have pointed to the sky and they mistakingly think he came from the sky and made him king. The benin people later realised that ekalerderhan was wrongfully banished when is father died an expedition was sent in search of the banished prince this expedition got to ife and found the prince who refused to leave his new kingdom but instead sent his son this was the beginning for the relationship between the too. Oba in Benin has 2 meaning shining or reddish, Omo n' Oba means the shining child, am sure you are smart enough to relate it to Ogiso. What bothers me most in the yoruba claim is how an educated person will choose to 'ignorantly' believe that someone fell from the sky. Na so una dey dey. kreamstaff:]get your stinking self of this thread. IEDA:Are you guys aware that Late Ooni Adesoji Aderemi was the Governor General of the old western region which included the whole of southwest and the old Bendel State? The choice and preference of Ooni to the likes of Oba of Benin, Alaafin of Oyo & Olowu of Owu says it all, and you guys should not create false history. The truth that you guys hate to hear and try to suppress is that: OBA OF BENIN IS ONE OF THE SEVEN GRANDSONS OF ODUDUWA WHOSE ONLY SON WAS OKANBI. 1 Like |

Imagine people do not know it's country name: BENIN KINGDOM, capital: EDO location of the palace area within the captial: BENIN CITY Imagine in this current dispensation we are regarded as a landlocked country... which landlocked country can a "bight' be named after? Bight of benin proves benin WAS NOT LANDLOCKED & we had not even acquired lagos then o. 2 Likes |

LorDBolton: Very apt sir. Well before Benin took hold of Lagos Island under Oba Orhogbua,, Oba Olua sent his son Prince Iginuwa (Ginuwa) to proceed and become the "Ogiame (Lord/Duke of the seas) in a place now called Warri. Today, Ogiame remains the title of Olu of Warri. Effort by the last Ogiame to ditch the title only five years ago that he had become a born again Christian, led to the Royal family asking him to abdicate for another member of the family to take over. He quickly realised it was a bad idea. So the idea of landlocked is a recent stuff. Sadly. History is deliberately twisted or omitted in Nigeria. Luckily on museums in London, Paris, Berlin, Amsterdam and many cities across Europe and America, Benin history is given a special place. I never miss visiting those museums when in any of those cities. |

I hope a Documentary crew is filming this coronation. Ministry of Tourism and Culture should even be on ground. If you want to be serious about marketing your culture, good time to do so. Imagine them airing this coronation on PBS and then the chiefs of Benin in collaboration wuth private antique owners organise an exhibition abroad. That is a worthy export. 1 Like |
