olboi, if you are not sure of the existence of Emperor Nero then no wahala, let us find something that we both can agree on that exists.

Would you agree that I exist and I am writing this post to you on this day of 10 of October, 2016AD?

If you agree that then I ask you, How many years before today was Jesus born?

No, man I am sure emperor Nero existed.
He is a fact.
I just want to be sure u also agree that he existed

Do u believe he existed?

As long as you believe he existed that is all I need to work with. Do you also believe that he was crowned emperor on 54AD?

If yes, then can you tell me how many years before he was crowned was Jesus born?

From time to time, historical landmarks that are common to both of us must be ascertained in order for proper discussion to continue.

If you promise me that you will answer the question, How many years before Nero was crowned emperor was Jesus born?, in the subsequent post I will tell you what I think about Nero's existence, even though Nero is not a bible character and this thread is about bible characters.

Of course I believe you will still fail to answer the question, but I'm doing this to expose you.

Yes I believe with almost total certainty that Nero did exist.

Good to know we both agree Nero existed.

Now the answer to ur question is
54 years with a margin of error of about 2years backwards.

The Census of Quirinius was a census of Judaea taken by Publius Sulpicius Quirinius, Roman governor of Syria, upon the imposition of direct Roman rule in 6 CE.[1] The Jewish historian Josephus portrays the annexation and census as the cause of an uprising which later became identified with the Zealot movement.

The author of the Gospel of Luke uses it as the narrative means by which Jesus was born in Bethlehem (Luke 2:1-5),[2] and places the census within the reign of Herod the Great, who actually died 10 years earlier in 4 BCE.[3] No satisfactory explanation has been put forward which could resolve the contradiction, and most scholars think that the author of the gospel made a mistake.[4][5]

- Wikipedia

2 In those days la decree went out from mCaesar Augustus that all the world should be nregistered. 2 This was the first nregistration when1 Quirinius owas governor of Syria.

-Luke Chapter 2

The census happened in 6 AD.

Now for me to get to the whole point that I've been trying to make, and would have made a lot easier if you hadn't been dancing atilogwu:

There is absolutely no way that you can base a calendar system accurately on someone whose dates and times are so vague and unknown.

Dionysus created the AD/BC system based on guess work and not on any hard evidence of the existence, or life events, of anybody.

Thank you very much.

Dont hurry away. Even all the dates u mention are estimates.

Dionysus is not the only person who has worked on the date of Jesus birth.
It is even clearly stated in ur copied Wikipedia pages that his system was accepted until scholars tried to appropriately estimate the date of birth of Jesus and as a result had to put a margin of error on his date of birth.
And even after the scholars estimated the birth of Jesus year, it still fell around 3-1BC
And that is not bad at all.

Does that change the fact that the system was built on the life of Jesus?
Absolute NO.

Absolute NO.

You seem to have forgotten where this conversation is coming from. Remember when you said this? :

We are in the year 2016 AD.
And somebody is asking such a question.
I think u should ask first what 'A.D" means after 2016.

Then u would get some clue.
If really, u are after clues.

You were making a claim that our calendar system which is a fixed solid thing, not wishy washy at all, is an evidence for the Life of Jesus.

How can you build a solid house on a shaky foundation. The events of Jesus' life that AD/bc is based on is not solid. Ad bc is based on guesswork and supposition not on any hard evidence of any event in Jesus' life.

And you only confirm this further when you say things like:

So in other words you are still guessing. Ad/bc is based on mythologies not on solid historical events.

The census of quirinius was in 6 ad. That is nowhere near 3-1bc.

furthermore Luke made a mistake of also saying that it occurred during Herod's reign and herod died in 4bc. That gives us a 10 year discrepancy.
Is a 10 year discrepancy a good thing to base a calendar on?

No where in history of events around the birth and the times of Herod is the date fixed.
They are all estimates.
There is even some evidence that Herod died in 1BC

Please use ur google well.

Or do u want to argue that the dates of Herod are fixed?

You don't see how you are making my point for me, can you?

You said a dating system that was invented in 525 ad but was supposed to start from 0 ad was evidence of the historicity of Jesus yet you cannot peg any single event in Jesus' life to the dating system.
Go and think about this fact.

Bros, there is nothing like 0AD
Pls study the system some more

It is .........2BC, 1BC, Jesus birth (which is the zero), 1AD, 2AD .......
in ascending order
Just as in a number line.

Until scholars did a more thorough job, it is very clearly written in ur Wikipedia reference page that the system was accepted and that the birth was put at zero.

Again u just lied by saying I couldnt peg any event, even when I clearly fulfilled my promise of saying the year when Jesus was born.
I even placed a margin of error due to the recent work of scholars on the issue of the date.

And if u want to talk about discrepancy as ur yardstick for writing off the system. Sorry, then u are not conversant with science because even when calculating absolute laws in science, there are discrepancies that are neglected.

Of which the discrepancy to me here is very negligible considering the era it was done.
And also considering the Fact that the exact month of Jesus birth is not stated.
