Unless my English language skill is not up to par, everything is wrong with Mr. President's speech. It was condescending to his wife and it was degrading at the very least. The president's response suggested that Hajia Aisha (& by extension, the generality of women) ought to be busy in the kitchen and in the "other room" (what in Chaka's name does that even mean?) than to meddle in political matters.

The whole thing betrays the macho, parochial and ultra religious mindset of Buhari and above all his inability to realize or his disregard for the setting in which he was speaking. He said all that while sharing the stage with Angela Merkel, a woman, whom he had gone to solicit military hardware from. He ain't getting none of that for sure if this matter isn't properly handled.

Come to think of it, doesn't Buhari's comments rhyme with the writings of Paul the apostle in the bible books of Corinthians and others in which he suggested that women not be allowed to speak in church nor should women be allowed to lead over men?

The era of subjugating women is dying worldwide and the sooner some of this old or zealous goons realize that, the better.

Abeg oh. Dat one na blasphemy !!

yes I knew a worthless e-hypocrite will find my trouble. If I just stepped into Nigeria today I wouldn't know that not even up to year ago a gender equality bill was thrown into the dustbin because it was unpopular with almost 99% Nigerian men both in government and outside government. Now this maggot is questioning my reasoning, me that was among the silenced 1%? what changed in a year? why are Nigerians fighting for their women now? because of the hatred for Buhari.
I just look at where Nigerians are heading I don't know. People that know what is right keep doing what is wrong. failed people. and you people will keep failing because change is faraway grin

people like this make me believe emphatically that Nigeria has a future. Your reasoning is spot on.
back to the topic, Nigerians are just bunch of pretenders and conformists. how many of you people can accord your wives as much respect as Buhari has for his wife?
I see nothing offensive from what Buhari said and this is my ONE good reason:
A woman's primary home is the kitchen, bedroom and home management every other role(s) is only secondary. Buhari only uttered this true statement in a wrong place.

The fact that he said "my wife" makes very little difference in my opinion. You have to ask yourself why didn't he question his speechwriter when he first read that part of the speech? The fact that he didn't even find anything wrong with the comment and didn't even consider the fact that it might seem offensive to some shows just how ignorant he is. This is what you get when you elect an uneducated man as your President.

Btw, I'm not in any way supporting GEJ, his administration was only slightly less incompetent and ineffective than the incumbent government. What we need is one of two things: to introduce fiscal federalism into the constitution or to completely break up the country. I have very little hope for the former unfortunately undecided.

Hmmm our joking president, did he waste our hard earned resources to go to Germany and make funny statements, how will they take us serious as a country where we have jokers as leaders...u are in front of one of the most powerful woman in the world, and u still joke about your own wife belonging to the kitchen, if the German president was in the kitchen would she be where she is, if hillary Clinton was in the kitchen would she be contesting, if the British pm was in the kitchen would she be there today,if laggard was in t kitchen would she have headed the IMF today, if Mrs Aisha Buhari was in the kitchen would Buhari win the election, our leaders need to know that any statement made outside this country can make or mar our economy, hope they learn early enough...

I left my family to sleep over at my former area just to vote for this man, I persuaded a lot of voters to vote for this man. I am disappointed in myself, I couldn't comment since last year because I have been observing all these things as well, This man is truly a mistake. I dislike men who still think of woman like this. A man who betrayed his benefactors and now his own family because of power, I may not like Jonathan but he is not power drunk, He respects women as a responsible man should, This buhari may divorce his wife and take in a 14yr old bride. I honestly don't want to complain before because I know some people will take advantage of it

I must confess you really tried but you still sounded like a Subdued man trying not to offend feminists. Let me tell you about the kitchen.
It is a place where the food that keeps the family alive and well nourished is cooked. It is a place that offers wives and mothers opportunity to show love to husband and children alike. It is a place that is as important and Sacred as the bedroom.

So stop reducing the kitchen to a place of shame and humbling. It simply is not so. President Muhammadu Buhari made no errors by saying his wife belongs to the kitchen.

There is absolutely nothing wrong in the President's speech that is degrading. Except you believe that the kitchen is a terrible place. Which makes the proud and professional chefs and cooks second class citizens. Don't fall for feminist agenda's, be smart.

It is called context my friend. Say I had a mechanic friend that i used to argue politics with. And one day while we are having a disagreement i say to him "I don't know what political party you follow but you belong in your shade, beside engine oil and under the bonet of a car.

Normally this is not supposed to be an insult since I am just describing his work. But in this context I am implying that he knows nothing, his inferior to me in the knowledge of so and so thing and he should just go back to his mechanic work(which i feel is inferior). Do you see the point now why it is not just a joke?

Why are people this critical?

He say his ''wife'' belong to his kitchen and his living room not ''your wife'' or ''our wives''

If that is the role they agreed between them that she fill ,what is every ones headache?

You might choose to giv ''your wife'' a different responsibility but thats you.

Moreover, she has been travelling all over the place so which time does she even go to the kitchen?

How is the office superior to the kitchen? If Aisha Buhari says my Husband belongs to the office would you find it offensive? You are just a little child easily manipulated by feminist themed attack on men.

I repeat for block heads like you to understand...there is absolutely nothing wrong in buhari's speech!

Bros talk true. If Aisha had said "I am suited to be president" or Buhari said "I like cooking food for my family". Would you still make this same statement?

I laugh when critics say things like Buhari said that in the presence of the most powerful woman...and so? make she arrest him nah. Was she the one put on blast by her hubby?

Not everyone is ready to entertain the feminists. Who Angela Merkel epp with her power?

This has nothing to do with feminism. Do you have to be a feminist to stand against such statement? So if he had said something like "Igbos belong in the farms, the rivers and in their village grounds". which is technically not an insult. Especially right after an igbo man criticized his policies, would you also scream, feminist or biafrans??

Speak out. Don't be silent. When it is your turn people will also speak out for yoy
