For career minded people, the pay is half of it.

Someone in my office wanted a new job role where no vacancy existed. I advised him to create a product, fulfil a need, take initiative and become relevant. He gradually took over and earned our respect by always offering to assist in the event of any technical glitch.

He thereafter created products that filled the most basic need of everyone. A sub department was created and a vacancy was declared solely on the value addition. It took him a total of 10 months and he is now happy.

Speak with your supervisor, HR, or your MD as the case may be. Take initiative and quietly be stamped in the memory of people as "the guy". You will be relevant and noticed and in no time, you'll be recomended.

It's a long term strategy that you should undertake if only you are willing to grow with your organization.

I dont see myself acquiring skills that can put food on the table, what i basically do is draft letters, reports, print, photocopy, create invoice, manage the office sharepoint and purchase office supplies.
which to be honest do not require specialised skills. I am just worried, i dont see any special skills been added to me. it is like am not growing and learning anything for the past 4 years, other than the pmp and prince2 certification i acquired
i dont see any additional benefit.

The funny part is the pay is not so bad i go home with 387k every month exluding benefits and bonuses.

As a man i always believe one should always learn a skill in event of a job loss he would be able to establish himself from that skill. This admin is not a man job, plus you find yourself being distracted and doing
stuff for others instead of yourself.

It's a great deal if you cannot acquire new skill at place of work. You need the special skill to establish your own company after ten years of working.
My theory is; If you are working with a company and after exactly ten years you cannot stand on your own to establish your company or become a consultant afterwards, then your current job do not worth it.
My take home 'some' month is higher than what you stated but I quit because the work is giving me a nightmare. It's a routine work with no new thing to learn.
Please don't quit, draw a plan and see how it's going to be, you are still young with a good CV.

It is not bad to be ambitious; but in Nigeria today, jobs are no longer guaranteed. so stick with the one you have now, before you loose everything and down regretting.
Re: Fustrated With My Career What Should I Do by otswag(m): 8:05am On Nov 12, 2016
Since ur serious about career devt and there are currently nil alternatives, i suggest you approach your boss and negotiate for more productive responsibilities even if its with little to no salary change. If u do those jobs very well and u have a reasonable boss, he might make the new responsibilities official with a salary boost. The downside with this is that you may eventually get what u want and your boss will refuse increment in salary saying u asked for it. Another option is continue building urself with other professional certification programs while you continue applying for other opportunities elsewhere. Its just a matter of time.

I was first drafted to a Junior project manger role, this made me acquire the PMP and prince2 certification.
Before long the project administrator was fired and i began to do admin stuff. Although I shadow my technical colleagues do work and even relieve them when on leave on technical matters.
t is not like when this is your main work. My colleagues dont even want me to know much because they want to be relevant and in charge.

It is really affecting me and becoming a growing concern. It just so fustrating, although i give my best to the admin job and no one even knows I am frustrated. friends and colleagues think all is fine

I have tried to apply for various jobs in other places even for lower pay, but they have not been invited me for any interviews. Even applied for PM jobs, no calls. And IT is something you need to move with
else you become rusty as technology changes daily.

Am getting married soon and think career is something i need to address before settling down.

I am very grateful to God, I have a job, but for how long will i be like this, no growth prospect, just leaving and resuming i feel very empty.

Am not lazy, i have a vision for my life and i work with towards my goals.

Can someone in the house give me some tips as am getting frustrated. I am even thinking of starting a business, but the truth is that is suppose to be a side hustle.

I currently work in Lagos.

save brother..your pay is not bad..save..save..seat down and think of what you can do with your money, start something..stay focused..develop something..think deep..focus on the future and how you can be productive with the little you have, still remain in you job and try as much as possible to keep enjoying it even when you are not. Because 1 day you might need to fall back on whatever you have invested you past savings on..All am saying is try as much as possible to start something, build your dreams..if you don't build your dreams other people will hire you to build there's. Stop searching for jobs else where..build your dream on the little you have..

If I get a third of your salary consistently monthly, I'll be glad. I am just like you OP as I plan to leave mine even when no certain one in view at the moment.

I studied Management Technology (Project Management) and no skills added than those I've been able to work around and my desire to be skilled is pushing me really hard.

Come and let me take your place if you're tired even be your PA and let's see.
