Please I need help o.my driver just called me now that my car has been impounded by VIO.

They said Uber does not have operational license in Lagos state and they have issued a ticket of 60k.
I need advise urgently....

They requested for a ride and deflated his tires when he got there...he has logged a complaint to Uber via the app and can't say when we'll get a response.

Am at a loss on what to do!!

Wow! I'm also at a loss as well! I wonder what support Uber will possibly give in this instance. Where did this happen? Ie where was your driver and where did they request from? Focus on getting your car out of those useless VIO people's hands, I doubt if Uber will do anything for you. Remember they don't own any car or hire any driver - 'they are just an app!'

Sir, I am an intending partner/driver on uber. The whole process has been cumbersome but at this stage I need experienced advice. Please how do I go about the Tax Identification Number? Is it true they require only coperate/current accounts?
I uploaded a duly stamped and signed acknowledgement paper from FRSC as I have misplaced my temporary driver's license but it was rejected. I booked a meeting with uber on Tuesday to talk about this, what are my chances?
Do you think a 2008 Honda Civic, manual hear with less than 100k mileage will pass the car inspection test?
Your suggestions/opinion/advice will be highly appreciated as I have very limited source of information other than all I've read on Nairaland

Thanks

You'll get the corporate TIN from FIRS. I understand Uber released some document on this some time ago I'm not sure of the link to it so you'll have to look through ubernigeria.com to find it.

They require current accounts, either individual or corporate. Simply put not a savings account. Haven't tried with saving account anyway.

You'll probably need to just get the temporary licence. Haven't heard of the stamped paper. Have to hear what they say at their office.

Car mileage and manual gear doesn't matter. Go for the inspection first and they'll tell you what you need to fix up. I was nervous at my first inspection but since then.... mscheeew grin

Sorry about this.

I thought Uber amicably resolved the operational license issue they had with the state government a few months ago.

I would advise you bail your car out yourself.

Sorry am writing late, don't know if you have paid the fine. But if you have not..
This is what you will do. Take the the fine ticket to VIO office in Secretariatin alausa, explain to them what happened (please don't give anything to anyone at the gate), if you are lucky they will slash the fine by half, but you haveto get accreditation and drivers badge which will cost you 6k then proceedto pay your fine and hold your tax clearance certificate too when going to get your car.
But first send the full fine ticket you were given to Uber and if you are lucky again, Uber will refund your money. This also depends on what was written on the fine. If it was accreditation and drivers badge, Uber will refund you but if it was another thing you are on a long thing. And hope you have your hackney permit cos Uber will ask for that.

Hope this was helpful

Many thanks for your response. I haven't paid the fine and I have booked an appointment with Uber for this afternoon. Why will Uber ask for hackney permit if it wasn't part of their requirements.i do not have hackney permit...will hear what they have to say when I get there later today...thanks again.

OK here is it. Uber will not tell you everything you need to operate a carb in Lagos. They only ask for what will enable you be on their platform.

Accreditation is done free of charge at LASTMA officein Oshodi whilethe driver's badge is gotten at Code of conduct bureau at Ikeja opposite police college for 6k.

If you don't want to go through all that, just tell the VIO guys you are not an Uber driver. Just form a story that you are driving your oga's car after all you have your LASDRI. card.

SBVNIGERIA:
Hello Guys i will need a very honest advice from you guys.

I own a 2014 Kia Sportage and it is very under utilized, due to the nature of my business i prefer to take public transport. Currently it has run only 13.5k km in 2yrs and i keep it very clean. Recently i was considering on putting up on UBER to drive myself at my spare times(considering all the stories av been reading here about bad drivers). So my questions goes as follow;

1. knowing fully well that most of the road officials are against uber and the issue of not been accredited yet, what are the necessary documents to acquire to evade serious ticketing or impounding?

2. since i have alot of free times to drive, can you advice on an average how many trips a day or a week that is enough to make profit and cover all expenses or at least how much i need to be making a week as my gross?

3. What are the best times of the day or week to move around?

Please your genuine response will be appreciated

If the car is registered in your name I don't see why VIO will be asking you for accreditation and the rest. Just tell them it's you are driving your private car. As long as you have your regular papers such as insurance, road worthiness, vehicle license and you can just get your hackney permit. O don't forget LASDRI too. (Just keep your LASDRI and hackney permit separate from the other documents just Incase they ask for it. But still your story should be that it's a personal car. On no account should you tell anyone (VIO, POLICE, ROAD SAFETY, ETC.) that you are an Uber driver.

I can't say how many trips can give you a certain amount of money because you can do ten trips and not make 10k but you can also do a trip and make more than 10k. It's just depends on where your riders are going. Longers trips gets you more cash but you expend more fuel.

On the best time to work I will say weekends, but don't rule out week days because as I said earlier, it depends on where your riders are going.

Went to Uber office and dey said they will reimburse whatever VIO fine I incur, that they always do...I hope so.

Next stop..VIO office Alausa, pleaded and pleaded for a rebate to no avail, they all insisted that I should pay the 60k o and that even if I pay and don't get an operational license my car won't be released.

They advised I go to their office opposite police college to find out how much the license costs and also get the accreditation and badge there. Looks like they have a major beef with Uber as they were quite dismissive on Uber issues..

After I get all that, they will now give me some kind of clearance that I'll take to where my car was impounded to get it released..

The whole saga just taya me..So will continue today and pray the car is released.
...will keep u guys posted.

Lagos VIO Begins Massive Impounding of Uber cars

Lagos State government through the Vehicle Inspection Office has begun impounding all Uber cars in the state. High level VIO staff say that Uber has no licence to operate in the state and they had warned Uber to comply with statewide regulations. The VIO has since started impounding vehicles by posing as legitimate riders and requesting trips, only for drivers to be met with a towing vehicle at the beginning or even during the trip. The VIO claims that hundreds of cars have been impounded in the 2 days of this operation and it aims to impound all Uber vehicles.

Uber has claimed that it will reimburse partners who are issued fines, however it remains to be seen if they will keep to this. In the meantime, Uber partners are being left with massive fines and deflated tires as they are left bearing the burden in the middle.
