I've been on this site for quite sometime now, albeit through many incarnations. I have heard this same prayer of hope fall from the lips of 'loving' Christians. This 'yearning' for something so tragic/powerful to happen to me so that you may be proven right. I understand this desperation. You are a nice person on the inside, and you care that I do not meet harm, unless of course, such harm turns me towards God.

I have been through some real deep shit. I survived. Without Jesus. It felt powerful and glorious. This ability to see things as they are, without peeking through the veil of religion's blindfold.. I cant give it up for Jesus. j can't be a slave to the cross. The Cross reminds me of a racist past, an altar upon which the African Gods, along with our culture, history and people were sacrificed.

To have a personal relationship with God, it's just like your relationship with the one you love, treasure or trust. You talk to them in any available moment and get to know them better. You relate with them in the good times and bad times and still be there for them. You encourage each other, learn from each other and help each other to prove that love or trust.

Having a personal relationship with God means including Him in your daily life, in everything about you. You treat Him like a person and not a thing. He has feelings, He wants to be closer to you and know you're always conscious of Him.

It should get to a level where you can talk to Him and also hear from Him. Some read the Bible and hear nothing from God, they only see the letters but when you have that relationship with God, you'll get to hear from Him in a way you've never done in His word, He even gets to speak to you through other means also. You get to hear His voice and direction through different events in your life.

God has feelings bro. He created us for a relationship and not to ignore Him.


It's not only talking to God or remembering Him because it's time to or you need help, but by relating with Him as if He is a part of you and then you should be able to hear from Him also.

When you include Him in all your activities, It makes it easier for Him to interfere in anything that concerns you. Because you would be treating Him like a Person and not like a thing or a tool you only use when you need help.

I pray in the mighty name of Jesus you will come to know the only true God, who is your maker, who is the truth and the only way and by the time you know Him, you'll never be confused again, neither will you look back. I also pray you'll be among those to have a unique personal relationship with God, your maker in Jesus name! Amen

We want to sow the seed of salvation in their lives through our declaration so that it will germinate and bear spiritual fruit in them.

Permit me to answer this question. Relationship with the Holy Spirit has similarities with your relationship with your wife, children, bosom friend, and parents. The exception is physical intimacy as expression of your love and bond with your wife because God is a spirit and those who worship Him should worship Him in Spirit and truth. There are similarities and there are differences in the way we relate with God as compared to the way we relate with our spouses, friends and family.

You listed the things you do with your wife to show you have a relationship with her. These activities strengthen the bond between the both of you as well as keep the love you have for each other going so it doesn't quench. You do the things you do to please your wife, you listen to her, you attend to her needs, you care for her in any way you can. You become her best friend and draw closer to her each day. In the same sense, there are certain actions you take that aim to please God and help you draw closer to Him daily and in that way you establish a relationship with Him.

The first step to a relationship with God is to accept His Son, Jesus Christ, as your personal Lord and Saviour. Jesus is the only way to the Father. Without inviting Him into your life there is no relationship with God.

Furthermore, you strengthen your relationship with God by drawing closer to Him. Before I delve into this I need to explain the difference between religion and relationship with God.

Religion is a mechanical set of practices people follow in relation to their belief system. They do it not because they know it pleases God, not because they love God, not because they seek a relationship with God but because it has become a tradition handed down to them from their fathers. They don't seek to know what pleases God so that they do those things. They believe that by performing these set of rituals they are in right standing with God. Religion is lifeless and boring.

A relationship, on the other hand, seeks to draw closer to God so as to know who He is and what He likes or dislikes; it seeks to know what pleases Him and do those things that make Him happy. It seeks to place God first in everything one does. Unlike religion where one does the same thing over and over without changing, a relationship grows, you adapt to the desires of God, you learn and adjust to a way of life as an expression of your love for God. In the end, you change the way you do things and the way you used to live.

You forge a relationship with God by talking to Him any time, you tell Him your heart, your dreams, your hopes and desires. You seek to know Him through His Word, who He is, what pleases Him and what He dislikes. You invite Him to your daily activities to be with you, to help you, grant you the wisdom and strength to carry out your daily tasks. You make sure to let Him know you love Him by telling Him that everyday. You commit yourself to His care each day. You meditate on His Word, you practice His Word. You grow in your knowledge of Him and His ways and you never stop learning to know Him and follow Him.

Religion is boring and brings death; a relationship with God brings life and fulfillment.
