Students of the Federal University Of Technology, Owerri (FUTO) have taken to the streets to protest over exorbitant school fees fees levied on them by the school management. As we update you, the protest is still on going.

Let’s present you the school fees schedule for 2015/2016 academic session and that of 2016/2017 academic session.
FUTO School fees schedule for 2015/2016 Academic Session:

FUTO Year one (100L) School fees
Geology = (School fees) N50,800 + N40,000 (Acceptance Fees)
Total= N90,800
Other Departments = (School fees) N48,300+ N40,000 (Acceptance fees)
Total= N88,300

FUTO Year two & three (200l-300l) School fees
Geology = #35,800
Other Departments = #33,300

FUTO Year IV & V(400l-500l) School fees
Geology = #30,800
Other Departments = #28,300

FUTO School fees schedule for 2016/2017 Academic Session:
We got information that Fresh (100 Level) Students still pay an additional acceptance fee of NGN 42,500 making a total of NGN 124,000.

Students still have to pay huge amounts for accommodation and course registration. A student claimed that fresh students pay more than NGN 20,000 for various course registration apart from school fees and acceptance fees.

There was heavy police presence on campus to ensure that the students do not vandalize the school property or create any havoc during the protest.
The students decided they will go on a protest when the school management gave them an ultimatum to pay up today or pay a fine of additional NGN 10,000.

Enjoy pictures from the Live Protest, while we keep you updated.

The only exorbitant fee I can see there is that of the year one. Other levels are just like every other schools. Even my school pays more (I'm talking about other levels). It's just that we've not made noise.

Expl0rers:
Returning students pay less than $100? What are they now protesting for?

Is it that the students are unable to hustle out $100 in 12 months?

No wonder unemployment is everywhere with people unable to hustle.

Even secondary school students charge more than $100 per term.

This is not a demonstration but riot. Many school properties were destroyed in the process. The students shouldn't have gone to this level. The implication is that the school authority may likely close down the school and ask the students to vacate the campus. When the school is re-opened the students would be made to pay for the damages and sign undertaking to be of good character and will still pay the stipulated fees. All these could have been averted if the students had allowed the SUG to engage the management.

it's not about the money but we're not getting value for the money paid, if you say you charge all this for health, transportation, Wi-fi, development levy, etc..we should see something.. try to get a futo school fees receipt. the details of the total money is there but we still pay the same money again apart from the one you paid as school fees, it's crazy

You are paying highest because I believe geology is building her department. I paid 40k as acceptance fee back in the day, petroleum engineering and geology used to pay the same amount until petroleum got her department. All of you better calm down or you will pay damages.

These students are not ready to learn. Imagine the small amount of money they are protesting over? Do they think university education is free everywhere like their Roach-ass made it? They can sit at home and we will see whose ox is gored. Rubbish!!!
Which Rochas? FUTO is a federal university and has nothing to do with Rochas.

The fees might be little to you but compared to other Federal University of Technologies ,its really high .

It's really easy for you to sit where ever you are and judge we students of FUTO without adequate information. You don't know what went wrong.

I am a student of the school and i must say the students crossed limits. It is quite true in comparing our school fees with other technology school in the country one may say it is relatively high. But the extreme and aggressive actions was not and will never be the best way to sought things out. It was suppose to be a peaceful protest but i guess students who have grudges against the management due to other reasons took this as an opportunity to express their anger. This made things worse. Peaceful protest could have done better and a formal address from the vc could have done more *magic* Objectivity really is a great tool in judgement and i so much beleive the students would have a second thought when they try to see things from the school management perspective.
Re: FUTO Students Protest Over Exorbitant School Fees (Pictures) by Scarcity234: 8:54pm On Feb 17, 2017
As for the course registration there is a directive from the vc to those forcing students to register courses with money to refund it to the student. The memorandum is on the door of EEE year one class adviser's office
