What the 'useless' military rulers built even when there was no money, the so called 'better' democratic leaders have been unable to attempt them.

When there was no money? Were you a baby then?

Never heard of over $12 billion Gulf War oil windfall that grew wings under IBB?

Do you know that what $12 billion could do then, $30 billion cannot do it now? Benin to Lagos was around 15 to 20 Naira by bus. Depending on airline, N6,500 bought you a ticket from Lagos to New York. Around N4,000 Naira to Rome or Paris.

Bad as it may be, it is alleged around $2billion dollars of Dasuki loot & hundreds of millions of Diezani loot that we have used to label GEJ as most corrupt.

Abeg many of us here still remember yesterday.

All this honour did not stop him from betraying MKO Abiola though.

Well done IBB. No matter your faults, that bridge is a reminder to what to the structures, military regimes put on the Lagos, nay Nigerian landscape. Indeed, a civil and structural engineer - and - an architect's delight.

The National Stadium, Surulere; National Theatre, Iganmu; Kainji Dam; the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport; Three Arms Zone (Aso Villa, Senate & HoR, Judiciary Complex) and so on. All built by the men in uniform!

The fourth republic (not to talk of this current confused, directionless APC administration) is yet to match the structural achievements of the military regimes.

What nonsense!! Did IBB construct that bridge with his family money? Ho, because he constructed a bridge with the Federal's money ( that belongs to u and me ) he should therefore be excluded from any corrupt act that he is culpable of ? Africans wake nowwwww! Pls!!

Firstly, in general, Nigeria has had more money and wealth under democratic leaders than military; that fact is not disputable.

Secondly, considering the inflation factor, $12 billion in 1990 may have been of more value than what it is today, but the difference isn't so much as you paint it; we are talking of the dollar here, not the Naira. Have you considered that the exchange rate of the dollar to the Naira in 1990 was less than N10 to $1?

Finally, you have just validated what I said earlier, despite the massive fortunes stolen by military leaders, despite the fact that Nigeria in general had less money under the military rulers, we were still able to achieve some largely ambitious projects like the 3rd mainland bridge amongst many road and bridge projects. But under the democrats, can we really point out to any major project completed since 1999?... We cant even maintain the structures put up by the rogue military men today.

My friend, do you know what you are talking about. Is it his money?
Did you look at his report card at the end of the term?
Nigeria has never got a true leader. A true leader will transform Nigeria to a state better than Dubai. Then we can honor that man. For now, Nigeria has not got a leader. They are all embezzlers

3MB remains the longest bridge in Africa.

Kudos to IBB on this one.

Funny how the military build nearly all our existing infrastructures while civilian administration just loot and steal.

Sad.

My brother, have u seen the train bridge from orile to CMS? That should be one of the answers u are looking for. And for iconic, yes the third mainland bridge is a hit. But the lagos icon is no more on the mainland, its between lekki and ikoyi. Those who live in lagos know what i am talking about.

In ijebu in Ogun state. You have oba of ijebu ode. Who out smart the other ijebu town by changing his title to awujale. Because they use to collect taxes. So ijebu ode people change their title to awujale, and the.mumu other ijebu town started given ijebu ode money, because they did not go to school.

The same thing happen in okene,, where he changed his titles to collet from other igbira town. To use the money to develop his own town

The same thing in warrior, Benin city's. Because some of the smaller city don't understand they are to repair their schools themselves etc and send it to another town

The reason why

That's the problem with our society, how can you honor a man for doing what he is expected to do? Honor is for outstanding services. That's why in 2017 we are still doing roads and think that's what a working Governor should be doing. He was Head of state, is he expecting the Cameroonian president to complete the 3rd mainland bridge? Its his duty.

Isn't the construction of a bridge that connect the island and mainland an outstanding performance?
