I only agree on 236 our educational system is very bad but Enugu is worse, I finished sec as one of the best student in Enugu only for me to come Lagos and become olodo

Remembering the days of my sec, it was very fun but I now realized I only fooled myself

AlbusDumbledore:
As stream 2 corps members are settling down in their PPA in various states of the federation to serve their fatherland, I would like to use this opportunity to share my experience in the coal city state.

1. IGBOS ARE INDUSRTIOUS: hate them, belittle them, and call them names. It is an undeniable fact that our dear brothers from the east are very industrious and resourceful; from Gariki Market to New Market to Ogbete Market where young men with little or no formal education in mobile phone technology dissect phones with precision and finesse. Impressive stuff! (As Nigerians) in our bid to become a power house in science and technology, we must look towards the East

4. Igbos are not the spiteful, Yoruba-hating bigots that NL paints them as: I was scared when my call-up letter reads Enugu. Chineke! Me? An Afonja living among flat-heads. (Tribe-hating Nairalanders your left yanshes o). However, after a couple of weeks among the indigenes, I realized my fears were unfounded. I made many wonderful loyal and kind Igbo friends. I never missed an opportunity to introduce myself as an “onye-ofenmanu”. The laughter that normally accompanied that declaration was hugely and deeply satisfying. We all need to pack a sense of humour in our luggage all the time.

Nice one from the OP. NL and Nigeria needs more of these. We need such write ups and thoughtful insights highlighting the positive side of every ethnic group or religion. Not divisive tails based on stereotypes. We are first and foremost humans, united by our common ancestry (Adam and Eve), and common geographical boundary (Nigeria). It is high time we shun ethno-religious bigotry and embrace our oneness; we should aim to stay united in our diversity and we shall prosper as a nation. In so doing, the sky will not be our limit but rather our starting point, for we shall continue to soar higher and higher.

P. S. I personally had a bad experience in Abia State camp wherein i was told in very clear terms i am from the boko-haram igbo-killing region of Nigeria and i was sent out of camp based on some semi-valid reasons fueled by ethno-religious sentiments. I had to re-mobilize, but i don't hold it against my brothers from the East. It was a singular act of some misinformed persons. I can't stereotype the igbos based on such experience. There are definitely good, empathetic, sincere, hardworking and down-to-earth folks amongst them and i would want to believe they are the majority. The other minority are statistically insignificant.

Big-ups AlbusDumbledore, lovely post. Funny too. Others, please learn. Its great to see our young people promote other tribes in this country rather than jump the band-wagon of suspicion, bashing & trashing. It is refreshing to hear objectivity. There will always be a poor side to a person, tribe, country or even entire race... so why dwell on it? Look for the bright side of things first...

I got a request. I happened to attend sec school at one of the largest there in the capital, and I'm currently conducting a survey on things like teacher quality for the school... I'd like more of your views, as a comparison, because as you say, its likely to be a problem across the state!

Lol @ teaching English with Igbo, exactly the noise they make about the north, choi.
Kindly note that he was referring to the state government schools. I served there too so I know it's true. Same cannot be said for the private schools.

Calm down. Not all those who use those terms are bigots. The Afonja op is no bigot. I'm a proud Igbo and if I meet the op, I'd buy him more okpa and coke.
And I will buy you Amala and Ewedu (if you ever come to Yaba), the one sold in White-House

I'm not going to drag this issue with you. We all know those states that fall under educational less privileged states. It wasn't the southerners that did the grouping.

U mean teaching English with Igbo in a secondary school? What is d difference?
Let me tell you, I served in the east also. A science class (ss3) of 64 students, no one, I mean, not even one could state any of the Newton's laws of motion.
I repeat, what's the difference?

On public exams results, we know how the roll with miracle centres. Abeg leave mata jawe.

I disagree with you on NO COMPANY/INDUSTRIES IN ENUGU. 1) We have the biggest, most modernized and Beautiful Nigerian Brewery, and it is the best all over west Africa. 2). Innoson plastic company 3) ANAMCO, HONDA, NISSAN and other car assembly plants in Emene. 4) ALUMINIUM manufacturing plants in Emene. 5)Fr Mbaka cleaniest and international pure water and juice company that has employed majority of Enugu youths. And lots more small firms . So next time make research wells.
yes sir. I will, thanks for the corrections

Coal city ebe azia, got so much love for my people.. Nice write up OP, the average Nigerian is actually friendly, that's why I consider all these name calling on NL insignificant..

Once am done with medical practice in UK, na to open clinic retire for 042, the serenity and peaceful atmosphere of that city is unmatched in Nigeria..

Well said bro
Except you didn't add cheap transportation, less traffic(unlike lagos where you have to leave home early to beat traffic). As early as 6am, you can literally count the number of vehicles on the road.
Water is really a big problem in Enugu. I stayed in 82 division during my service. I developed biceps carrying buckets of water from long distances.

Enugu's okpa is heavenly. And also thier beans and roasted plaintain. grin grin
why do I feel I know you. Are you a member of Batch B15?

Nigeria's problem is hypocrisy. a country where truth is crime. Until Biafra comes, Nigeria will know no peace.
