If your baby has previously been feeding well, refusing to feed is called a breastfeeding or nursing strike. It usually only lasts for a day or two, though it may go on for longer.

http://www.babycentre.co.uk/a8490/when-your-baby-wont-breastfeed#ixzz4brSZkQBN

She finds it difficult to latch on properly and can’t get a good enough mouthful of your breast to feed from. She may refuse your breast out of frustration.

Your baby may need to be reminded how to feed properly, by going back to the basics. Perfecting any new skill can require repetition. Your midwife or health visitor can help, or ask to see a breastfeeding specialist.

Your baby has tightness in her neck muscles on one side (torticollis), which makes breastfeeding on one side more painful than the other. If you notice that your baby won't feed from one breast, seek advice from a doctor.

She has reflux and links feeding with pain.

Her mouth is painful, perhaps because she has an infection such as thrush, or a cold sore.

She has a cold, or a stuffy nose, making it hard for her to breathe while breastfeeding.

She has an ear infection which is making her miserable and makes feeding uncomfortable. See your doctor to rule out any infections.

She is teething.

Your milk supply has reduced, perhaps because you have been giving your baby formula feeds as well.

She is easily distracted by noise or interruptions while she's breastfeeding.

She bit you during a feed and was startled by your response.

She's experienced a big disruption in her routine, such as if you have recently moved house or returned to work.

[/b]TIPS TO HELP HIM LATCH ON AGAIN
4. Be patient! Trying to force your baby to breastfeed may make things worse. You want her to feel happy and relaxed at the breast, so spend lots of time cuddling together skin-to-skin with no pressure to latch on and eat.

5. Often the best time to get your baby back to the breast is when she’s falling asleep, sound asleep, or just waking up. Again, approach this gently ― if she wakes and protests, don’t force things. Often babies will latch on even when sound asleep.

I think he got used to feeding from Papa and the bottle.

please who has gone thru this? My baby is teething and doesn't eat like he use to (takes half of his usual feed at very long intervals) . How can I help him feed more?

He is four months plus and feeds mostly on formula (Aptamil). Took him to see the pediatrician yesterday and he said I shouldn't be worried about it cos his weight is okay (almost 7kg), but how wont i be worried?

Don't be worried. My kids do this alot, especially my boy. Atimes he eat like kilode, n atimes, he won't even finish half of what we feed him with. The first time he did it I was so worried and went to buy this buy that, we even rushed to the clinic to complain, and all we were told is if he takes. Breast milk well then no cause to be alarmed. Before you knew it he started eating well again.

Even my granma said it that kidss don't eat much all the time. There are moments they grow and there are moments they get fat.that this two different moments, their eating pattern changes. And truely I see it in my kids.

However I think it's good to always give them multivitamin, the one their Paed recommended for us is abidec- even if I don't give them daily, whenever I notice a drop in their food appetite I give them.

Mamas Abeg what causes a baby to reject breast? My son is just 10weeks old and I noticed over the weekend that he now prefers formula to breast milk during the day. No matter how much I try to put the breast in his mouth he will cry and cry but as soon as I give him a bottle he will eat very well. He only takes the breast at night when he wakes up to feed but once it's day time he won't take again.
I've tried to express but highest I've got5en from both breasts is 120/140ml that's like 100ml from the left and 20 or 40ml from the right breast
My son has a very very huge appetite and I feed on demand and I'll really like him to take more of breast milk than formula which is how I was doing before he suddenly changed and started preferring the formula
Or could it have happened because I left him with dh during the weekend and cos of that had to be on formula all through?

Is there anything I can do?
Sorry for the long epistle
