Don't even think abt working in Korea ..Am talking from experience after living in Korea for over 3yrs ..Lucky enough I was there on a special assignment and everything was provided for me ...But this is from my fellow Nigerians living there ..
Everyone of them hated working in Korea ..Long stressful hours ..With almost no time to eat or breath ..

Hello friends, just thought i should share my thoughts concerning the job prospects specifically for students, as this have always been the most popular and common questions i get through emails, week-in and out.

Korean Law states that students are only permitted to officially work on part time(max 20 hours weekly) and only after completing 6 months in Korea. However, these laws are often flawed or flouted by students. Below are the 5 cardinal jobs a student could roll-on with until graduation here.

1. Factory Jobs
-Usually long-term or monthly,
-Pay is bi-monthly or monthly and its awesome too.
-Minimum $1,800 USD monthly.
-Not so easy to secure for students as it requires documentations(most times), time-demanding and would sure affect your academics.

2. Tekbe (Arabite) Jobs
-Casual or short-term jobs.
-Pay is daily and good too.
-Minimum $70 USD or much more per day.
-Could be day, night or weekend jobs.
-Quite easy to secure and mostly okay to manage with academics.

3. English Teaching jobs
-Usually part time or purely full time jobs.
-Pay is bi-weekly or monthly and its awesome too.
-Minimum $2,000 USD Monthly, depending on the number of hours you work per week and your bargaining strength.
-Extremely tough to secure for anyone other than the recognized Native English speaking countries(check on google for the countries).
-Students could get it based of sheer-luck or strong familiar referrals.

4. Paid Internship.
-Purely formal company jobs.
-Usually medium-term or semester vacation jobs,
-Pay is bi-monthly or monthly and its awesome too.
-Minimum $1,500 USD monthly.
-Not so easy to secure for students as it is competitive.


5. Business, skill-oriented, short-term personal contracts, others.
-Importation/exportation business.
-contracts using your skill-sets (examples: App Programming skills, hair-making and cooks(for girls), remotely working as English translators, corrector, writers, etc.)
-No strings attached regarding timing and pay, as it is entirely up-to you and your clients.


Please be well informed prior to coming here so you don't get into a fix. "Fore-warned is Fore-armed"

NB: The info listed above are purely based on my personal opinion/experiences. However, they could slightly differ with the views of other Nigerian residents in SK.

Nigeria as a country speaks better English language than the rest of the African countries(arguably), yet, we are not legally allowed to teach the language here or anywhere else for that matter. We cannot easily secure collar or lucrative jobs in other sectors too directly from Nigeria.
We are only allowed to do shitty and PT jobs abroad while studying. We are only allowed to first spend hugely on foreign education and then work extremely harder to now secure lucrative jobs abroad.
These are the consequences of the previous actions of our bros n sis abroad. The get-rich-quick syndrome have totally be-deviled their minds. They have practically ruin it all for the incoming generation, who now have nothing left.

For instance, sometimes it beats me why heavily accented English-speaking countries like South Africa, Angola, et al, could easily secure teaching jobs here, but we Nigerians, who are extremely qualified for such jobs gets turned down or ignored the moment we put-in our CVs.

Be the change you really want to see! Do needful when abroad. Stay legal, determined and focused. Stay away from crimes and criminality when abroad

Hi bro

I need your advice please. I applied to a university in SK in the last spring semester for a Ph.D (full scholarship) after seeking an approval from a Professor that promised to push it through I was denied admission at departmental screening.

But when I contacted the Prof. on the development, she felt sad and said she didn't know what went wrong that she had even informed her current student that I would be joining them for spring semester.

Last week, the Prof. contacted me that I should reapply for the doctaral program again for the coming summer semester that she will try her best to push it through this time around. But my plan initially is to wait till next spring semester before applying but she is insisting I should try and apply for summer semester.

Please I need your advice on this. Thanks

Please, I'm a bit confused, the school I'm applying to demanded for personal statement and a study plan. I have written the personal statement but don't know what is required of me to do in the study plan. Are personal statement and study plan the same thing? If not please can you tell me the difference and if possible share tips on how you wrote yours.
Ps: I've tried googling this but what I saw was like a reading and study timetable for students and I don't know if it's the same thing that the school is demanding. Thanks

They are actually different in meaning, but also perfectly okay to have them both combined and presented in one piece. However, they have to be clearly indicated with clear subtitles. Advisably, the piece should be more than 1-page but should not exceed 4-pages.

Whilst personal statements implies all about your identity/heritage, personality, capabilities, societal welfare-ism and Acada/Employment achievements so far, study plan focuses on your preference for the intended program you have applied for, your thesis(for UG and mostly course-based Masters) or research focus(for masters and Ph.D) and ultimate goals on completion of studies.

I must commend your patience and perseverance till now concerning your admission.

To start with, the Prof. may have her reasons for asking you to re-apply by summer. I suggest you strictly adhere to her advice and just send-in your applications once more.
Usually, Professors with little or no external funding have to depend largely on their institution to fund a student they admit, and this student has to face huge competitions from other prospective students like himself, wishing to come to other departments in that same institution, hence, the often rejections.

She may have got a green-light as to her own case regarding admission and that may clearly be the reason she had asked you to send-in once again this summer. Abeg, dust your documents again, re-package am, find money and have it processed ASAP. My humble take on that.

I would like to know your major and research focus. I could also help you pull some strings here @KIT if your major is purely IT and /or Electronics Engineering inclined.
