I grew an interest in reading from a very young age, around 9 or 10, I think, so I've probably read thousands of books...mostly from the library. Got my 1st library card around that time too. 6 books each time to last me a month. While still in primary school, my cousin, who is 7 years older & was in high school at the time, used to give me her school books to read & summarize for her. I really didn't mind because I enjoyed it.

I never buy books either. My home collection is small but I'm planning on expanding it. I got 3 so far smiley

I have no idea, started reading when I was really young, mom is an English teacher, dad a lover of books, so we had a library. here is a pic of my recently re-read books, still got about 30 more, all read from October to now. I'm a very fast reader, also suspense n intrigue fuels my reading.

Read more than I can count. I bought most of them. While some were borrowed. Have up to 200 novels presently.

started reading novels (Mills and boon and pacesetters) before I was 7.
I used to read it in the toilet so my older siblings won't see me.
I have bought sooo many books but I recently stopped lending out, people don't return them and I have read so many too. I've lost count of the number of books I've bought and read too

I never had flare for novels. I prefered reading books from local authors. I read books like chike and the river, Eze goes to school, and very few novels from foreign authors.

I like books I can read and relate it to my present environment and picture myself as the main character I.e Chike in Chike and the river. I don't like reading a novel that's trying to create a picture of where I've never been before. I like Naija stories.

I also read articles. I see people move around with very fat novels in their bags and I wish I could do it

Few times I had a foreign novel with me ; I was only trying to get a girls attention. Lol

I wish I could write. Write the kind of stories I see on Nairaland literature section I.e diary of a street hustler, kukere sisters

Do you think its possible to develop the habit of reading novels at age 31 ? When all I think is money, money, more money.

I'm just a typical Naija guy

I was actually joking. my own case is ironical. I read english and literary but throughout my stay on campus I was able to complete two novels (arrow of God and Purple Hibiscus). I did have-readings, online summary and also listened to analysis by coursemates for the rest of them. the funiest part is dat I used to pass more dan those that read them. I find reading some african authors so boring, especially soyinka and ngugi.

Thousands will be a modest answer. From a war chest of 100s of Enid Blyton fictions, to over 40 James Hadley Chase and Biggles series, Pacesetter, Bloomseries, DanFulani, Fagbamigbe books to the best of African Writers Series where I've got about 40 on the list.

I won't forget African children books by Anezi Okori, Buchi Emecheta, Zulu Sofola, Kola Onadipe... Such beauty!

Then came John Grisham, Tami Hoag, Robert Ludlum, Frederick Forsyth, David Baldaci, a few Len Deighton and Stephen King plus many others...

Then adventure series led by Jeffrey Tayler, Wilbur Smith etc

Then Nigerian history 100 days of Abacha, TAPS, why we struck, 17yrs of military rule, the story of Nigeria, soldiers of fortune, Awo: Unfinished Greatness, There was once a country, The story of Biafra, Ojukwu by Forsyth... And a whole heap!

Then all Al-Maktoums books, Arabian and Islamic civilisation stories, Oxford business publications, and two book from former World Bank Director Dambissa Moyo... Reading is simply a way of life.

I really wished we rescucitated the beauty of African Literature, it's overall my best. Ferdinand Oyinbo, Chekh Amadou Kane, Our own Achebe, Ngugi Wa Thiong'O and Francis Selormey...

But i remain a bloody engineer though.

In other words, you're not an avid reader? I hold a different opinion about African authors. When I used to read for my cousin, there were two books in particular, one was titled Comfort (can't remember the author now) & another one the Obi Okonkwo one by Chinue Achebe. I loved them because to me the setting/plot & the culture behind the story telling was something exotic. I'm South African by birth, so at time I knew very little about other African countries. Hence the intrigue. The book Comfort
had me obsessed with Ghana for years. So I guess it depends on what you take or get out of the work you read. Me, I like the unknown, especially when it's far from the norm or what I'm used to-something different.

I have read up to a hundred novels, but I never used my money to buy any of them. Truth is that when I was a novel freak, I could boast of no kobo of my own.

Now if everyone is like me, writers will make reasonable money only from awards.

What about you?

I think I have a few 100 hundreds in my collection scattered across Lagos, Kaduna and Ilorin. Lost a box load to Young Shall Grow motors when I sent some personal things by cargo.

I still buy and I've lost a handful to my cousins and friends who borrow them and never return.
